Have you ever seen a toad that can’t hop? Night walks in the Andes are a lot of fun and hold their magic distinct to that of the lowlands.. I highly recommend doing nightwalks in as many different environments possible!

Antisana Ecological Reserve is close to Quito and can be visited as a Day-Trip from the capital or included in longer birding expeditions. Although Andean Cóndores are generally considere the highlight here, the highland birding is overall excellent. Tambo Condor is right before the entrance of the Park and offers great traditional local food and birding their backyard is an additional bonus!

This first bird has been a lifer many Ecuadorian birders in the last two weeks.. Yellow-backed Oriole.. Today he became my first lifer of 2022.
Cool new place available to bird close to Quito.. I was there on a rainy afternoon, but they also have a trail system running through nice high altitude cloud forest.

Using great camouflage, the Galapagos Short-eared Owl is able to capture really fast prey out!

Swallow-tailed Kites don’t seem to like it when the big birds show up.. Black-and-Chestnut Eagle being chased away rather effectively... All this time I was worried about the kites flying over my Ranch.. they have actually been protecting my free-range chickens!

La Chocolatera is one of the best points to see pelagic birds while standing on firm ground. Apart from birds, the right time of year also furnished Humped-backed Whales and other aquatic mammals breach from time to time great. The Pink-footed Shearwaters numbered in the 100s but were out of camera range.
