Let's celebrate together.

On 11 October, the international community is celebrating Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to bringing to light the issues that matter to girls around the world. It is a day to raise our voice and call for action on the practices that are holding girls back.

We created the hashtag to enlighten adolescent girls' stories who live in rural areas around the world and have less access to learning opportunities and resources.

The purpose of is to create awareness about the daily challenges adolescent girls are facing in marginalised areas and how each of us can help them to come out from the difficulties and to support them to make their own realities.

At newHorizons we empower young girls by teaching them practical knowledge and skills about social entrepreneurship.

Empower part of the program lasts for 3 months. During this time the participants attend in hands-on workshops about the following topics:

1.Basics of Social Entrepreneurship ✅
2.Meeting social entrepreneurs from all around the world ✅
3.Business Model Canvas ✅
4.Design Thinking ✅
5.Ideation and, team building ✅

This part of the program raises awareness about social problems and equipping girls with essential skills to take initiatives and build solutions for their local communities.

Education is the most empowering force in the world creates knowledge, builds confidence, and breaks down barriers to opportunity.

The Education part of the program lasts for 3 months. During this time the participants get theoretical and practical knowledge in the IT field.

The following workshops are included in the Education part:

1. Creating a Gmail account and email writing culture
2. Microsoft Word Office
3. Microsoft Excel
4. Microsoft PowerPoint

After the program, girls will become more confident about their computer skills. Additionally, this part helps girls to improve their presentation and communication skills. 😉

Today we are celebrating to complete the first milestone of our program!

Our journey started in May 2019 with only four girls from Azerbaijan. After one month later the program gained popularity among the young girls and we started to get more and more participants which ended with more than 20 girls. During this time we delivered 25 online workshops over the Zoom in topics: Mindset, Global mindset, Leadership, SMART goals setting, Dream Map, IT courses about office programs, Coding, and in Social entrepreneurship.
Eight local and one international guest were invited to our meetings.
We are sending our big gratuities to , , .rustam, .desai .hasanova for sharing their knowledge and real life experiences with the girls and becoming a good role models for them.
Of course, newHorizons would not achieve so much without the team!

newHorizons is an impact oriented social enterprise that inspires, educates, and empowers young girls aged between 11 to 16 years old from developing countries. We do this through self-esteem, confidence, leadership, and entrepreneurship activities. Marriage is one of the most important stages in life. It is such a wonderful moment that two people decide to form a family and take more responsibilities together. But is child marriage the same kind of happy moment? Why do people speak against child marriage? In this workshop, we will discuss this topic in detail. About the speaker- Vafa Rustam
She is a lawyer from Baku, Azerbaijan and was a trainer expert on child marriage in September, 2020. Starting from 2014 to 2018, she was a trainer consultant under different projects in the Council of Europe in Baku. Currently, she is a trainer consultant in Media Right Group, Baku and a consultant in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.

It was such an honour to spend our time with Julie Desai, a lawyer and human rights activities from India, in the workshop last Sunday. She really motivated the participants with her knowledge and hands-on experience and gave them an informative lecture on various topics, such as girl's rights to education, the importance of culture diversity and interesting facts about Indian culture.

Educated girls - empowered girls

There is no doubt that people are the foundation of a country and education is the way to turn them into human capital despite the fact that not everyone can receive equal resources along the way. That is why it is crucial to pay more attention on the unprivileged girls; giving them more supports and improving their physical and mental health. In the future, they will have the same chance to contribute to the country.

About the speaker-
Julie is a lawyer by profession and has more than 15 years of hands-on experience in the field of the Banking Law, Aviation Law, Company Law and Immigration Law. She is not only a successful career woman, but also a well-known social lobbyist and has contributed astonishingly in the area of Human Rights, sexual direction correspondence and social decency.

October 11 is International Day of the Girl, a celebration of girls around the world, with an emphasis on their value and achievements as well as programs and policies to continue their empowerment.

It’s time to encourage girls to pursue their dreams, uplift their self-esteem, and celebrate all their talents.

As a newHorizons team, we wish each of the girls all around the world a future where they will not have any barriers ahead of them!

Meet our program trainer Nargiz Amrahova.
Nargiz is a graduate of Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, majoring in Computer Science. She worked as a project manager for the Azerbaijan diplomacy center and Baku Idea Lab for a couple years. On the other hand, she enjoys joining social projects. She worked in a management level for several projects, such as “Change the city project”, “Let's discover our children together”, “Famstore”, “ Dreamerslab “. She has built up her experience in project analysis, problem research, writing project, project management, and problem solving through the years of managing various projects. She is passionate about what she is doing and she wants to help more young girls to gain knowledge and skills especially in the IT field.

In our daily life, the Internet is inevitable since it is the most efficient way of modern communication. For the professional purposes, it is important to have good email writing skills. That is why in this workshop we will train our participants about email writing culture.

In the “Write your success by email” workshop you will learn:

Huru Hasanova is the co-founder of the Blockchain vision Consulting Company and at the
same time, she is also doing her PhD at Korea University. She has over 8- year experience
in the field of Database and Network Security and holds prominent positions as faculty
member at Oracle academy and Azerbaijan Technical University.
Because of her knowledge and experience, she has the privilege to offer consulting to
several national and enterprise projects. She is the faculty of ACM and Linux professional
institute.
Furthermore,she has written 4 research papers, and has 6 IT certifications. Currently, she is
working on Interoperable Blockchain development and anomaly detection in South Korea.

We have finished the inspirational part of the programme.
Now, we are moving on to the next stage- educational part and participants are going to learn some useful skills for the future.
Our first educational workshop is about CODING. Our speaker Huru Hesenova is a professional IT specialist living in South Korea.

The outcome of the workshop will be

The ability to solve complex problems by combining different concepts and applying different techniques.
Learn to use different kinds of loops, events, functions, and conditionals.
Discuss the societal impacts of computing and the internet.
Design a program on their own by using loops and functions with parameters.
Create a capstone project you can share with friends and family.

I am Abdullayeva Mehrin, a 9th-grade student living in Salyan City, Azerbaijan. I have dreams like everyone else, and it is my pleasure to share them with you on my Dream Map. With newHorizons, I feel I am getting closer to my dreams each day; I am more determined than before, know to make the right decisions, and trust myself.

Meet our guest speaker, Matanat Mammadova.
She is a professional English Instructor and NLP practitioner with a Life Coaching certificate. Matanat graduated from Azerbaijan Language University. After this, she started working in one of the well-known English courses in Baku, Azerbaijan.
She's currently working at Medipol University as an English Instructor.

We have exciting news for you.
newHorizons is expanding!
On the 14th of August, newHorizons is going to be in Istanbul for the first time.
Our topic will be about the mindset and global mindset and it will be delivered by a well-experienced English language specialist Matanat Mammadova in Istanbul, Turkey.
Except for our founder, Nargiz, we have Matanat with us now and they are going to deliver more workshops and reach more people!

Our guest speaker, Fidan Azergizi, who is a well-experienced psychologist, talked about stress and how to develop skills to manage it.
You cannot believe how much can be done even via the Internet!
Ms Azerqizi not just shared her knowledge about this topic; she also engaged the participants with experimental learning to let them figure out their current stress levels.

We are happy to see how the girls grow and know more about themselves every time.

Meet our guest speaker Fidan Azergizi.
She is a professional psychologist with 5-years experience.
Fidan is holding a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is mainly specialised in working with adolescents and adults. In order to gain more knowledge and global experience in this field, Fidan attended internship programmes and many therapies in Turkey.
Currently, she is working as a consultant at the psychologist centre called Loqos in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The whole world is going through a difficult time due to the pandemic and how to stay motivated and keep newHorizons rolling become our challenge.

It turns out that there are still possibilities in a tough time! Thanks for the technology, Nargiz, our founder, delivered in a total of 7 workshops to the girls between 7th to 9th grades from Azerbaijan! Furthermore, those girls living in rural Azerbaijan overcome the difficulties of the Internet and technical issues in order to join the online workshops. Seeing how eager they want to receive education makes us believe what we are doing.

In the workshops, few crucial topics were introduced- mindset, global mindset, SMART goals settings, and Dream map. Each topic is like a tiny seed and now they have planted into the girls’ minds. They will sprout and flourish; eventually, they will help the girls become independent thinkers.
