Sand dunes and snow-covered mountain tops in Kashmir.
This was taken close to Spangmik, on the road to Pangong lake. It is the Indian side of West Tibet, close to the border of China controlled area - which India lost control of after the British Empire left the country in 1947 and the following Indian and the newly formed Pakistan war. By the time those two countries settled somehow the cease-fire with the help of UN, Chinese army had entered the north-east portion of Ladakh, where they completed military road to provide better communication between Xinjiang and western Tibet. India's belated discovery of this road led to border clashes and culminated the Sino-Indian war in 1962. China has occupied this part of Ladakh known as Aksai Chin since 1962. There has been 3 more wars between India and Pakistan since then and those three countries still have boundary disputes in this area.

Kutse raamatuesitlusele!

Eesti Disaini Päeval, 23.veebruaril, jõuab kultuurihuvilisteni ingliskeelne raamat Eesti disainielust välisajakirjaniku pilgu läbi - "Woods and the Sea: Estonian Design and the Virtual Frontier" [Mets ja meri: Eesti disain ja virtuaalne vaim]. Eesti disaineritest jutustava raamatu autor on Beriliinis resideeruv USA disaini- ja teaduse ajakirjanik Michael Dumiak. Kaasautoriteks on Ene Läkk, Ilona Gurjanova ning Kai Lobjakas, kelle materjali põhjal on koostatud disaini ja tarbekunsti ajalugu tutvustav peatükk. Eesti Disainerite Liit, kes on raamatu väljaandja, pidas vajalikuks Eesti disainimaastikku kirjeldada välisvaatleja silmade läbi. Dumiak on esimene ajakirjanik, kes välismeedias Eesti disainist lugusid on kirjutanud ning valdkonna arenguga aastaid ennast kursis hoidnud.

Eesti dünaamilist arengut e-riigina ja disaini lähiajalugu kirjeldava raamatu eesmärk on tutvustada välismaailmale erinevate lugude kaudu eesti disainereid ja arhitekte majanduse ja poliitika kontekstis. Lutherist Skype-ni, Matti Õunapuust R**t Ausini; Maile Grünberg, Tarmo Luisk, Tanel Veenre, Ivo Nikkolo, Mait Summatavet ja muidugi Bruno Tomberg. Autor intervjueeris ligi 50 disainerit/arhitekti, ta soovib lugeja viia võimalikult lähedale loo allikale. Intervjuude põhjal tegi autor järelduse, et eestlase religioon on seotud metsaga. Läbiv teema, lisaks disainile, on armastus looduse vastu ja seenelkäimise kirg – siit ka raamatu pealkiri. Michael Dumiak on teost tutvustanud ja publikuga kohtunud Disainiööl ja Washingtonis Eesti disaini päevadel. Raamat on Eesti Disainerite Liidu kingitus EV sajale. Väljaandmist toetas Eesti Kultuurkapital.

Tallinnas toimub raamatu esitlus 23. veebruaril kl 16.00 Solarise keskuses, Eesti Disaini Maja esinduses.
