Meet H.E. Ms. Sigrid Kaag ‘85 of the Netherlands who got appointed as a Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza pursuant to Security Council Resolution 2720 (2023). She served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and first female Minister of Finance in the Dutch Government. Ms. Kaag has extensive expertise in political, humanitarian and development affairs, as well as in diplomacy.

From where it all began at the AUC Gardens with her first interview, alumna Nala Kamel ‘23, Presenter, MC, and founder of Nala Says, reached new heights in her career. Cherishing the memories of that very first interview, Kamel graced the red carpet, conducting interviews with celebrities at both El Gouna Film Festival and Cairo International Film Festival. As well as, taking part in several summits. Her interviews have predominantly focused on industry leaders and those who have achieved remarkable success within the entertainment industry.

Meet Amin Marei ‘11, a faculty member at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Senior Director of Impact and Efficacy at Sesame Workshop. He was the founding director of Harvard’s Middle East Professional Learning Initiative (MEPLI), a professional development initiative that focuses on supporting teachers who work with marginalized children in the Middle East and is considered one of the largest international initiatives at Harvard.

Marei was granted several awards, including the Fulbright Research Grant, MIT’s Legatum Center and Public Service Center fellowships, Harvard’s Intellectual Contribution Award, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Interdisciplinary Innovation Fellowship.

Francois Casas, an alumnus from AUC's class of '69, approached our alumni office after 17 years away from Egypt and more than 50 years since graduation. His longing to visit both campuses of his alma mater which he had shared with his late wife, Lilas Shaker '70, touched our hearts.

Francois toured the New Cairo Campus and experienced the story behind its construction. But that's not all! Thanks to the amazing work of the AUC Library Archives, we retrieved Caravan issues from 1969, featuring Francois as a senior student. The library's archives brought back precious memories.

Congratulations to Yasmin El Maghraby '03, '13, '21, Adjunct Assistant Professor, on winning first place worldwide in the “Chemistry for a Cause: Finding Sustainable Alternatives to Oils” competition among 65 international university teams. Heading a team of four AUC graduate students, Maghraby and her team created a single-cellular microorganism cultured oil that has a zero carbon footprint. The competition was launched by Savola collaboratively with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). It was designed to encourage the development of sustainable, innovative, and socially responsible transformations in agrifood systems.

Dr. Sherine El Baradei '97, '00, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, proudly represented Egypt at the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) 3rd Professionals and Stakeholders' meeting in Vienna under the Space4Water initiative, standing as the only Egyptian and Arab female within 17 esteemed experts from around the world. Her remarkable achievements and dedication for space exploration and water management serve as an inspiration to us all.

Amenli - أمنلي, an Egyptian insurtech startup launched in 2020 by Co-Founders Shady Montasser El-Tohfa '15, Adham Nauman, and Omar Ezz El Din. It has successfully secured a significant milestone by raising $1 million in equity funding. Congratulations to Shady and the team on this achievement, and we look forward to witnessing their continued success in the coming years.
