Watch Fair. Buy Fair. Play Fair.
If fair play is a must for every athlete, why aren't we as consumers playing fair with the sports industry? Recent data show that at least one in ten young consumers in the EU has bought counterfeit sporting equipment 🥎🥋⚽️🏹, and that over a quarter of them access or stream sports from illegal sources. Watching a pirated football match or buying a fake team’s jersey may seem harmless but it’s not – it gives money to criminal networks and harms innovation. Are you ready to support our athletes this summer? Buy fair, watch fair, and play fair. https://www.euipo.europa.eu/en/news/observatory/illegal-sports-streaming-fake-sports-equipment-europe #playfair2024 #paris2024 #Olympics #sportsindustry #counterfeiting #piracy #intellectualproperty

A tale about public domain
Once (IP)on a time... A tale about Public Domain 📖 Much has been said about famous fictional characters that enter the public domain. But what does this mean? A public domain character is no longer protected by copyright, meaning that anyone can use it or adapt it freely for their own stories. Did you know that Little Red Riding Hood or Peter Pan were inspired by earlier public domain stories? Here are a few more: 🐗 Beauty and the Beast, published in 1756 by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. 🏹 The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, written in 1883 by Howard Pyle. 🦁 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow in 1900. 🐰Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll (1865). 🕵️‍♂️ Sherlock Holmes, originally published in 1887 by Arthur Conan Doyle. 🐇 Peter Rabbit, written by Beatrix Potter in 1901. 🐎 The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving (1820). In EU countries, copyright lasts for 70 years after the death of the author or 70 years after the death of the last surviving author in the case of a work of joint authorship*. After that, the works enter the public domain. *Copyright legislations are not harmonised worldwide. The term of protection granted by copyright laws varies from country to country. #copyright #publicdomain #intellectualproperty
