Velo Vern Girona

We scratched away layers of paint on our almost 300 year old facade and uncovered unique murals that once were the norm in Girona. Property owners would decorate their buildings in unique designs throughout the City at different periods over the building’s long history. Along with art restoration specialists, we have painstakingly brought the facade back to life. And in so doing created something no longer commonly seen in Girona.

Winter is on its way. Almost time to light the fire.

It might be warm out there but that’s not stopping our guests from getting on their bikes and exploding the beautiful areas in and around Girona.

Doors old and new. We were thrilled when our imaginative designers came up with a way to repurpose the original wooden doors to be used throughout the building.

The incredible Catalunya sunshine was not the only reason for the large upstairs windows. We also wanted to create a unique setting while enjoying the inside dining area. Swipe to image 2 and you might see what we are talking about.

Inside or outside, the Velo Vern roof terrace is the perfect spot to wine and dine with friends and family.

The moment we saw the afternoon light streaming into this beautiful building we knew the potential was endless.

It took a talented team with a wonderful vision to be able to take the original shell of a building and turn it into the warm and welcoming space that is now Velo Vern. A few more "before and after" pictures coming up.

Its no secret that we here at Velo Vern are passionate about cycling and so a stylish space for guests and visitors to hang their pride and joy was a bit of a no brainer.

Frames within Frames. Originally a standalone feature, this modern steel doorway now also acts as an encapsulating frame to the original painted ceilings and floor tiles in the connecting room.

The Velo Vern reception - a welcoming space about more than just checking in and out. We created this with an intention of 'community' so come say hi, have a coffee and even watch the final few km of the days cycling race.⁠

Velo Vern is very much a passion project bringing together our Spanish and South African hearts. We are excited to showcase brands and suppliers from both origins in our spaces.

When we saw the incredible wooden beam ceilings we knew we had to do our best to keep them. Luckily working with an amazing build team headed up by our architect we were able to preserve so much of the buildings original charm.

We think it was worth it.
