Thursday 8 February and the Society was playing the lovely Marbella Golf & Country Club. With a mid-day start time the weather was cool and cloudy with the temperature slowly dropping through the afternoon. This, however didn't put off 2 of the players in my group, both of whom scored 34 points to win 1st & 2nd prizes. Dave Nettley won it on countback with a fantastic score of 22 points, well played Dave. As ever the group gathered at Jorge's Bar for the prize giving where for the first time Jorge donated a voucher of 40euros for food and drink. Apart from Jorge sponsoring the Society shirts and both the weekly nearest the pin prizes, he will now be sponsoring one game per month for a 40euro voucher. Thanks Jorge, much appreciated. No wonder we think of ourselves as 'The best Golf Society on the Coast'. Also, watch this space and, of course our website www.cabopinogolfsociety.com for more sponsorship deals arriving soon. With a (currently) weekly green fee of 65euros and some fantastic prizes no wonder we are signing up new members at a rapid rate. 3 new members last Thursday and another 2 expected to join this week, get in quick before we run out of shirts (just joking 😃).
Next Thursday will see the Society playing the delightful La Cala-Asia, get your names down quickly.

Thursday 1 February and the Society was playing El Chaparral. With a 10:00 start the weather was cool with a brisk North Easterly breeze not conducive to a high score. And so it proved with a winning score of 32 points, although the rest of the group were always in the hunt.
Next week will see the Society return to the lovely Marbella Golf & Country Club where for the first time we will be playing for the first of our major sponsors prizes. First prize will be a 40 euro voucher for food and drink, kindly provided by Jorge's Bar. This is in addition to both the nearest pin prizes that Jorge donates every week of the year. Get your names down quickly as this event is likely to be very well supported.

Thursday 24 January and the society visited the interesting Santa Maria golf course. We were unfortunate in following another society who held play up considerably. Indeed the first 3 holes took 1 hour, just not good enough I'm sure you will agree. The course itself was suffering from the recent drought and was not in the best of condition. However, the members and their guests enjoyed a lovely day with sunshine and an unpredictable breeze. As always, it was a great day out.
Afterwards, we gathered in our favourite bar, Jorge's at Cabopino port for copious amounts of alcohol and a light snack where everyone replayed the game and the prizes were awarded. Our thanks go to Jorge and his staff who looked after us as ever.
Next week don't forget, El Chaparral, get your names down now.

Thursday 18January and the society visited the testing Mijas Los Lagos golf course. Due to the recent rains the course was playing long with no run on the ball and as a result scoring was not spectacular.
Next week don't forget, Santa Maria, get your names down now.

Thursday 11 January and the society visited the gorgeous Calanova golf course high up above Riviera where some of the views were spectacular. Unfortunately, in the case of your correspondent, the golf didn't reach those dizzy heights. I made the mistake of saying on our first tee that the ball I was holding was the very same one that lasted 18 holes at Miraflores the previous week. Sure enough, my very first shot ended up in the water. So much for favourite golf balls!!
However, all was not lost as the group I played with produced some great golf with some exceptional shots and scores. Overall, with some lovely winter sunshine and a gentle breeze it was a great day out.
Afterwards as always, we gathered in our favourite bar, Jorge's at Cabopino port for copious amounts of alcohol and a light snack where everyone replayed the game and the prizes were awarded.
First place (again), Phil Marsh with 33 points
Second place, Howard Ablett with 32 points

Nearest the pin in two, Howard (again)

Thursday 4 January and Cabopino Golf Society played at Miraflores Golf. This was the first time the Society have played on a Thursday and the swap from a Tuesday proved to be popular. It also enabled the prize giving at Jorge's Bar to be a more relaxed affair without having to worry about getting finished before the quiz. The weather was not too kind being cool and a little damp on occasions. That, however, didn't stop 3 of our members scoring 40+ points (a meeting of the handicap committee beckons 😃) and also your correspondent played the whole round with one ball (something that doesn't happen very often).
Our thanks go to Martin Harvey for sponsoring the day and presenting the generous prizes. Also, of course, to Jorge and his team for looking after us so (too) well 😄😄.
Don't forget to get your names down for next week at Calanova.

On Thursday 19 December our Society played La Cala -Asia, the last event of 2023. During our inaugural year the Society has played 16 competitions and now has over 40 members. The weather was, again, very balmy with very little wind resulting in some excellent scores. Unfortunately your correspondent was unable to play although I did attend the prize giving at Jorge's Bar where (for the last time) we competed with the Tuesday quiz. This being the Christmas quiz things got a little 'exciting' and, I understand, a substantial amount of alcohol was consumed.
Our thanks go to Gill Moore for sponsoring the day and, of course, to Jorge and his staff for looking after us so (too) well 😄.
Phil Marsh won first prize after count back from Gill Moore with Padraic Noonan, a guest, winning nearest the pin in one. Unfortunately no one won nearest the pin in two.
Don't forget our next golf day is Thursday 4 January 2024 at Miraflores. Get your names down quickly.

Tuesday 12 December and your Society played Mijas Los Lagos. The weather was beautiful with hardly a breeze and the course was in excellent condition (unfortunately not matched by your correspondents golf). Kindly sponsored by Stephanie Boyd the presentation was back at Jorge's Bar, Cabopino Port where, as ever, the staff did us proud.
A special mention must go to new member Sam Elgie playing his first game with the Society on a self-declared handicap of 26. With a winning score of 30 points it's just as well for him that I'm not on the handicap committee.😄

Sorry everyone somehow it came out as Santa Maria and should, of course, be Calanova. Bloody Facebook

Tuesday 5 December saw your Society play a challenging Calanova golf course. The weather (being nice) was inclement with cool conditions with a testing wind on parts of the course. The course itself was in a disappointing condition, some of the tees and greens were (putting it politely) less than acceptable. Pay top money, expect top tees and greens. Anyway, I digress, it didn't stop some of our members (and guests) putting in a commendable performance with some decent scores. All the results are captured in the photos. As ever, we returned to our home bar where Jorge provided the prizes for the two nearest the pin competitions (one of which was won by yours truly). The overall day was sponsored by your very own Cabopino Golf Society. As ever, our thanks go to Jorge's team for looking after us.
Next week sees us returning to Mijas Los Lagos, so if you want to play I'd advise getting your names down quickly.

Tuesday saw our Society play at Santa Maria. The weather was cool to start but soon developed into a lovely autumnal day with plenty of sunshine and a gentle breeze. We had some excellent scores (apart from your correspondent who visited some unusual parts of the course) with Per Johansen finishing in 1st spot. After the game we finished up at our shirt sponsor's bar, Jorge's Bar on Cabopino port where Jorge and his staff looked after us. I wonder if they ever get fed up listening to all the tales of woe and where it all went wrong. A big thanks also goes to Simon Ashe who kindly sponsored the day. Next week sees us competing at the lovely Calanova although we are full for this fixture.

Tuesday 21 November saw our Golf Society play a testing Alhaurin golf course. Whilst the weather was superb I'm afraid the quality of the golf didn't quite match the course (unfortunately yours truly was unable to play so I'm unable to verify the various excuses I've heard 😃). However, the prize giving at Jorge's Bar, Cabopino port was it's usual boasting and blustering occasion enjoyed by all present. Next week we play Santa Maria and currently there are 2 places open to members. Get your names down quickly.

Tuesday 14 November and the Society was competing at Marbella Golf & Country Club. The weather was sunny and warm and some of the golf 'hot'. Our thanks go to Gary for sponsoring the day and also to Jorge and his staff (Jorge's bar, Cabopino Port) for looking after us so well at the prize giving. Our next golf day is on Tuesday at Alhaurin but, unfortunately, is already full.

Hi Everyone, another challenging day at Cabopino on Tuesday 7 November. The weather was excellent with hardly any wind and these conditions were reflected in some great scoring.

1st with a score of 34, was James McNabb, here receiving his prize from the days sponsor Andy Dunning.

James also won nearest the pin in one.

Second with 33 points (although we didn't have to rely on count back), was Phil Marsh. Next Tuesday we are, once again, playing Marbella and there is just one place available, get in quickly if you want to play this delightful course.

Another great day of golf at El Chaparral Golf Club for the Cabopino Golf Society. Some of us found the course to be particularly challenging (well, I did) but it didn't stop serial winner Bob Tute from scoring a magnificent 39 points. Second with a score of 35 points was our Chairman Viggo Gjelseth (on another day this would have been enough to win). Third with a very respectable score of 33 was Stephanie Boyd.

Nearest the pin in 1, John Boardman. Nearest the pin in 2, Steve Boyd.

Our thanks go to the day's sponsor Frank Mullan for providing the prizes
And also our thanks to Jorge and his staff for looking after us so well at the presentation.

Next week we are at Cabopino so get your names down quickly.

An interesting day of golf at Miraflores in ideal weather, won by our Society Chairman Viggo with a net score of 28. In second place, last weeks winner James McNabb with 24. The presentation was held, as ever, at Jorge's bar in Cabopino port and our thanks must go to Jorge and all his hard working staff.

Next week we are at El Chaperral and as I write this I believe there is only 1 place open. Get your name in quickly if you wish to play.

Viggo and James getting their prizes from this week's sponsor, Howard Ablett.

Another great day of golf at Santa Maria with excellent weather and some ‘interesting’ golf played. Afterwards we converged on Jorge’s bar at Cabopino port for the prize giving, kindly sponsored by Denis O’Grady.

Our congratulations go to James McNabb for coming first with 30 points. This was James’s first game with our Society after joining only last week.

Second was Paul Judd with 27 points and third, after count back was Frank Mullen with 26 points.

Nearest the pin in 2 was Ray Small.

Many thanks also to Jorge and his staff for looking after us so well.

Next week we are at Miraflores, so get your names down now.

Tuesday 10 October and the Society were playing Marbella Golf Club. The first tee was at 08:20 which, considering official sunrise wasn’t until 08:21 and the weather was cloudy, meant it was fairly dark. Anyway, that was my excuse for putting my first ball out of bounds. However, a number of our members managed to put some good scores together as we found out when we gathered at Jorge’s bar later for the prize giving and some good natured banter.

First with a great score of 37 points was Pat O’Connor here being congratulated by Howard. Second with a score of 26 points was Brian Pearce ( who unfortunately was unable to make the prize giving.) Nearest the pin in one was Andy Dunning, nearest the pin in two was Tim Vaughan.

Our thanks also must go to Jorge and his team for looking after us at the prize giving.

Next week we’re are playing Santa Maria and I understand that the tee times are filling fast.

Tuesday and the Society had an interesting day at Cerrada Del Aguilar. This testing 9 hole course proved a challenge especially on the second 9 where we played off the white tees. The day was kindly sponsored by Peter McDonald who did his best not to finish 1st and scoop all of his own prizes. 😃

Next Tuesday we are playing Marbella Golf Club although all the T times are full.

A great day out for the Cabopino Golf Society on Tuesday 26th September at Alhaurin golf. We enjoyed some splendid weather (the golf wasn’t bad either) and had our largest turnout since our inaugural golf day at Santa Maria on 5 September. Our thanks go to Howard Ablett who sponsored the day and of course, to Jorge of Jorge’s Bar Cabopino Port for hosting the presentation of prizes.

Howard, presenting 1st prize to Bob Tute.

Howard Ablett 2nd, Gordon James nearest the pin in one and Steve Boyd nearest the pin in two.
