REVISITING THROUGH MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos: VII .
FACULTAD DE INGENIERIA, Montevideo.J. VILAMAJÓ.1936, 1945-53.
Proyectada en 1936 y construida entre 1945 y 1953 este gran edificio es una de las obras más significativas de la arquitectura moderna uruguaya. La Facultad de Ingeniería, proyectada por Julio Vilamajo se presenta con una funcional a la vez que expresiva articulación de volúmenes de hormigón, que no solo alojan y diferencian con eficacia los espacios requeridos, sino que generan una especial relación con el entorno y el paisaje de la costa montevideana a distintas escalas.
Una infraestructura cuyos detalles en hormigón, texturas, composición de huecos y accesos se acerca a la vida cotidiana de la comunidad universitaria.
Un placer y un honor compartir con los estudiantes de Master está experiencia acompañados nada menos que por nuestro estimado Prof y Arquitecto Gustavo Scheps. Un lujo.

Designed in 1936 and built between 1945 and 1953, this large building is one of the most significant works of modern Uruguayan architecture. A functional and expressive articulation of concrete volumes not only effectively accommodates and differentiates the required spaces, but also generates a special relationship with the surroundings and the landscape at different scales.
An infrastructure in which concrete textures, details, openings and accesses compositions brings the building closer to the everyday life of the University.
It was a pleasure to share this experience with our Master Students accompanied by Prof Arch. Gustavo Scheps.

Re-visitamos junto a estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Frankfurt esta magistral obra de Vilanova Artigas. Una secuencia continua espacios abiertos y diferentes escalas definidos por una sencilla y expresiva estructura de hormigón, se articulan entorno a un gran atrio cubierto central. Estructura y arquitectura son la misma cosa, la geometría de la forma, es el punto de inflexión entre el espacio y la materia.

Together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt, we re-visited this masterful work by Vilanova Artigas. A continuous sequence of open spaces and different scales defined by a simple and expressive concrete structure are articulated around a large central covered atrium. Structure and architecture are the same thing, the geometry of the form is the point of inflection between space and matter.

Acompañados por arquitectos del estudio , autores de la reciente rehabilitación, visitamos la casa junto a estudiantes y profesores de la . Sencilla vivienda de estructura de hormigón visto, ya pensada como espacio doméstico y de trabajo. En la espacialidad de la doble altura quedan anclados volúmenes de color que conforman una dinámica escena abierta al exterior.

Accompanied by architects from the Angelo Bucci studio, the authors of the recent renovation, we visited the house together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt. A simple home with an exposed concrete structure, already designed as a domestic and work space. Coloured volumes are anchored in the spatiality of the double height, forming a dynamic scene open to the outside.

Re-visitamos el Museo Casa VILAMAJÓ, centro de investigación en la Facultad de Arquitectura de Montevideo, junto a estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Frankfurt. Los niveles del inmueble, jardín y aterrazamiento exterior enmarcan, en realidad, un paisaje interior dinámico: secuencia de escenas domésticas, casi ensoñaciones de otra domesticidad posible, que se despliegan alrededor en cada paso, invitan a seguir investigando.

We re-visited the Casa VILAMAJÓ Museum, a research centre at the Faculty of Architecture of Montevideo, together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt.
The levels of the building, garden and exterior terracing frame, in reality, a dynamic interior landscape: a sequence of domestic scenes, almost dreams of another possible domesticity, which unfold around us at every step, inviting us to continue investigating.

CASA CRAVOTTO, Montevideo, Uruguay Arq. Mauricio Cravotto. 1931-36-49.

Junto a estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Frankfurt, tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar la vivienda y estudio del arquitecto Mauricio Cravotto en pleno proceso de restauración y rehabilitación para alojar en ella la sede de la Fundación Cravotto.
Allí gracias a la amabilidad de la fundación y de Soledad Cebey, persona a cargo de la organización del archivo, también pudimos ver parte de los documentos originales de la obra que se despliega delante nuestra.

"La casa-estudio denominada Kalinen es testigo actual de la vida y obra de Mauricio y Antonio Cravotto, dos generaciones de arquitectos de especial relevancia para el contexto intelectual, profesional y docente de la cultura arquitectónica y urbanística del Uruguay." Declarada Monumento histórico, esta casa pionera y traducción del entonces aun no-tradición moderna de Uruguay, situada en una importante esquina de un barrio residencial, se organiza en cuatro niveles mediante el tallado de un volumen único que, a través de balcones, terrazas, retranqueos y texturas, resuelve con austeridad y exquisitez la relación interior exterior del programa y la respuesta urbana.

Gracias al Instituto de Historia de la Facultad de Arquitectura de Montevideo y a la fundación Cravotto por recibirnos y permitirnos este aprendizaje.

We re-visited the Cravotto House-Studio in Montevideo.
Together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt, we had the opportunity to visit the house and studio of the architect Mauricio Cravotto while it was being restored and refurbished to house the Cravotto Foundation's home.

Thanks to the kindness of the foundation and Soledad Cebey, the person in charge of the organisation of the archive, we were also able to see part of the original documents of the spaces displayed in front of us.

‘The house-studio called Kalinen is the current witness of the life and work of Mauricio and Antonio Cravotto, two generations of architects of special relevance for the intellectual, professional and educational context of the architectural and urbanistic culture of Uruguay’. This pioneering house, a translation of the then not yet modern tradition of Uruguay, is located on an important corner of a residential neighbourhood to which it responds with the carving of a single volume of four levels that thanks to the balconies, terraces, and textures, achieves with austerity and elegance the interior-exterior relationship of the programme as well as the necessary urban expression in its surroundings.

Thanks to the Institute of History of the Faculty of Architecture of Montevideo and the Cravotto Foundation for welcoming us and allowing this learning experience.

CASA DIESTE, Punta Gorda, Montevideo, Uruguay 1961-1963. Arqto. Eladio Dieste.

Re-Visitamos junto a estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Frankfurt, la Casa que construye el ingeniero (pero sin dudas arquitecto) Eladio Dieste para su familia en Montevideo.
Destaca, además de su riqueza espacial y sencillez constructiva, las secuencias de espacios que pautan el control de la relación exterior interior. Estremece la empatía que aporta al espacio su inmediatez material y su sinceridad al mostrar abiertamente la innovaciones estructurales: el borde de las bóvedas de ladrillo se exhibe desnudo, tal cual.
Gracias a los arquitectos Esteban Dieste y Daniel Christoff por la oportunidad y la invalorable compañía. Todo un privilegio.

We re-visited the Dieste House together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt, built in exposed brick by the architect Dieste for his family in Montevideo. In addition to its spatial richness and constructive simplicity, the sequences of spaces that define the exterior-interior relationship stand out. The empathy that its material immediacy brings to the space and its sincerity in openly showing the structural innovations is astonishing: the edge of the brick vaults is exposed naked, showing the real dimension of the structure.

It was a privilege to be accompanied by Esteban Dieste and Daniel Christoff. Thank you very much.

CASA CURUTCHET, Le Corbusier, Amancio Williams. 1949-1955. La Plata, Argentina.

Re-visitamos la casa Curutchet en La Plata, junto a estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Frankfurt, diseñada por Le Corbusier por encargo directo del Doctor Curutchet. Detallada y construida por del arquitecto argentino Amancio Williams, designado como arquitecto responsable, su aportación fue imprescindible para conformar la espacialidad definitiva de la casa: secuencia de accesos, giro de la escalera, filtro de espacios e incluso conseguir que la administración aceptara trabajar con las medidas del "Modulor" en lugar de las requeridas por las normativas argentinas de aquel momento, ensayan el trabajo e intercambio común de arquitecturas "a distancia".

CURUTCHET HOUSE, Le Corbusier, Amancio Williams. 1949-1955. La Plata, Argentina.

We re-visited the Curutchet House in La Plata, together with students and professors from the University of Frankfurt, designed by Le Corbusier and commissioned directly by Dr. Curutchet. Detailed and built by the Argentine architect Amancio Williams, appointed as the architect in charge, his contribution was essential in shaping the definitive spatiality of the house: sequence of accesses, turning of the staircase, filtering of spaces and even getting the administration to agree to work with the measurements of the "Modulor" instead of those required by the Argentine regulations of the time, rehearse the work and common exchange of architectures "at a distance".

MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos Participa como consultores para re-densificación y rehabilitación de vivienda cooperativa y comunitaria en las jornadas de diseño en Erzhausen, organizado por Frankfurter Bogen, Frankfurt University of Applied Science, Hochschule Mainz y la Municipalidad de Erzhausen. Los resultados de las Mesas de trabajo en arquitectura y rehabilitación, marco urbanistico y legal, y en gestión cooperativa y financiación, se publicarán como guía de seguimiento para emprendimiento similares en el área del Rin-Main.

COOPERATIVE RESIDENTIAL RE-DENSIFICATION. Erzhausen. Hessen. Germany.
MEDIOMUNDO architects participates as consultants for re-densification and rehabilitation of cooperative and community housing in the design conference in Erzhausen, organised by Frankfurter Bogen, Frankfurt University of Applied Science, Hochschule Mainz and the Municipality of Erzhausen. The results of the working tables on architecture and rehabilitation, urban and legal framework, and on cooperative management and financing will be published as a follow-up guide for similar undertakings in the Rhine-Main area.

MEDIOMUNDO, en colaboración con FISCHER Architekten, segundo premio en el concurso de viviendas, kindergarten y zonas verdes en el barrio de Rosenthal, Stuttgart. La edificación se dispone como "una reunión en el parque" entorno a un jardín en pendiente frente al Gleisbogen Park, parque que se proyectará sobre las vias del tren.

El diseño fomenta pequeñas comunidades de vecinos y la identidad barrial, incluye equipamientos y la reutilización de edificaciones anteriores. El proyecto minimiza el impacto sobre la ocupación de suelo y optimiza el soleamiento, y propone edificaciones de baja altura, construcción de estructura mixta en hormigón y madera, con fachada modular prefabricada, terrazas y aticos ajardinados. Esta disposición hibrida de usos residencial, educacionales y recreativos pauta futura identidad de este vecindario en Stuttgart.

MEDIOMUNDO, in collaboration with FISCHER Architekten, was 2nd prize awarded in the competition for housing, kindergarten and green areas in the Rosenthal district, Stuttgart. The building blocks are arranged as a "meeting in the park" around a sloping garden in front of the Gleisbogen Park, a park that will be projected over the railway tracks.

The design encourages small neighbourhood communities and identity, includes facilities and the reuse of previous buildings. The project minimises the impact on land occupation and optimises sunlight, and proposes low-rise buildings, built in a sustainable mixed concrete and timber construction, with prefabricated modular façade, terraces and landscaped penthouses. This hybrid arrangement of residential, educational and recreational uses sets the future identity of this neighbourhood in Stuttgart.

“UPCYCLE POSTWAR MASS SOCIAL HOUSING”
Marta Pelegrin, MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, organiza la EXPOSICIÓN “Home&Office?:UPCYCLE POSTWAR MASS SOCIAL HOUSING” donde se presenta el prototipo resultado de la Investigación y Docencia sobre el diseño de un “Prototipo arquitectónico para la rehabilitación sostenible de la vivienda social de la postguerra en Alemania”, para la óptima rehabilitación, energética y constructiva, de entorno residencial y adaptación sostenible a programas domésticos contemporáneos de la vivienda social de la postguerra en Alemania.

Se expone un prototipo analógico, Mock-up 1:1 y modelos a escala, un prototipo digital visualizable con Hololens y VR-lens, En paralelo se muestra propuestas para los sectores residenciales (Siedlungen) construidos en la postguerra en Maguncia.

Marta Pelegrin, MEDIOMUNDO architects, organizes the EXHIBITION "Home&Office?:UPCYCLE POSTWAR MASS SOCIAL HOUSING" where the prototype result of the Research and Teaching on the design of an "Architectural prototype for the sustainable rehabilitation of postwar social housing in Germany", for the optimal rehabilitation, energetic and constructive, of residential environment and sustainable adaptation to contemporary domestic programs of postwar social housing in Germany is presented.

An analogue prototype, 1:1 mock-up and scale models, a digital prototype visualisable with Hololens and VR-lens, and proposals for post-war residential areas (Siedlungen) in Mainz are shown in parallel.

Fernando Pérez Blanco, MEDIOMUNDO architects, gives the lecture "Big small transformations" at the LUX Pavilion of the HS-Mainz, Mainz, in the scientific research seminar "HOME&OFFICE? Research Design of prototyped system for the sustainable upcycling of 1950-70 residential buildings to get contemporary living- & workspace".
He shows the progress of his research in residential space refurbishment, optimal housing rehabilitation and sustainable adaptation to contemporary domestic programmes.

Fernando Pérez Blanco, imparte la conferencia “Arquitectura como recurso” en el Pabellón LUX de la HS-Mainz, en la ciudad de Maguncia, ante estudiantes de arquitectura de 8 nacionalidades. Con proyectos como rehabilitación Sala Chaflan de Cibeles para el Banco de España y el Teatro San Francisco de Vejer de la Frontera de MEDIOMUNDO arquitectos, ha mostrado cómo la Trazabilidad del proyecto y obra, es una herramienta fundamental para optimizar recursos.

Fernando Pérez Blanco, lectures the conference entitled "Architecture as a resource" in the LUX Pavilion of the HS-Mainz, in the city of Mainz, in front of architecture students of 8 nationalities. Cities Ahead Programme. Goethe Institut. Madrid.
Marta Pelegrin, from MEDIOMUNDO architects, participates as a consultant in the CITIES AHEAD Programme of the Goethe Institut, giving a conference and workshop on "Re-identifying the cultural attributes of the city and projecting them towards a sustainable production of culture".

The event at the Municipal Museum of Malaga was attended by the Mayor of Malaga, the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, and numerous institutions, cultural agents and public-private associations.

We bring back the inauguration of the design of the exhibition about the Centenary of the Cante Jondo Competition, designed by MEDIOMUNDO architects, in the rooms of the Palace of Charles V in The Alhambra, Granada.

Design of exhibition supports, scenography, and wooden showcases, as a "temporary and recyclable shed", lighting project, and graphic design, for the exhibition of original materials from the first Jante Jondo Contest and documentation of exceptional value.
