➡️ Dos de las bandas de folk más emergentes en los últimos años en el panorama internacional del folk celta se unen por primera vez en nuestra sala donde estarán presentando sus nuevos trabajos.

San Miguel Fraser es un proyecto que combina el dinamismo de los violines y los arreglos de cuerda con el canto de raíces castellanas de María San Miguel y el emocionante y sensible acompañamiento de Galen Fraser, hijo del violinista escocés Alasdair Fraser. Su nuevo álbum "Dots of Light" brilla con vida y creatividad, ya que exploran la música tradicional de sus países de origen así como nuevas composiciones con un estilo único de música de cámara.

Deira band es un trío de folk celta contemporáneo formado por músicos procedentes de Asturias y Andalucía. Desde que fueron ganadores del prestigioso concurso The Battle of the Folk Bands en Glasgow en 2022, han mantenido una intensa actividad de giras y conciertos irrumpiendo especialmente en la escena folk escocesa. En la última edición del festival Celtic Connections presentaron “Alba” (amanecer en castellano, Escocia en gaélico) un álbum donde ofrecen una propuesta en la que combinan esencias del nuevo folk escocés y asturiano con sonidos modernos.

Hello Friends of Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas,

As you may have heard, Alasdair and Natalie were robbed of their instruments, gear and clothing while on tour in Portland. Heart-broken, Alasdair stayed on to follow leads, hang posters, and do TV interviews about the robbery.

First, the good news. Natalie’s cello was returned to her by a good samaritan that bought her cello on the street for $40!!! Upon discovering Natalie’s luggage tag, they called her to arrange its return. Natalie is beyond happy!

Although many items are covered by insurance (also good news), there are items not covered, and, of course, there are insurance deductibles. These costs add up!

San Miguel Fraser imparten talleres de música folk en los que podrás desarrollar tu musicalidad, ritmo, entrenamiento auditivo (no habrá partituras) y sentido compositivo, todo ello a través de diferentes dinámicas siempre en grupo.

“A triumph of an album, the debut from this duo is an absolute delight from start to finish. Neither of them is new to recording, or to the partnership here, so their first joint collection of music builds on firm foundations. Nevertheless, it towers over the landscape of fiddle music and Spanish-Celtic folk.

Maria San Miguel and Galen Fraser both play fiddles, with Galen adding cittern and Maria vocals on a few tracks. They are assisted by some great friends including Natalie Haas on cello, Sabela Caamaño on accordion and Antía Ameixeiras on additional fiddle. The older pieces here are pretty much from the Northern Spanish traditions of Castile, Leon, Galicia and the Basque country. Jotas and xotas, a Basque arin-arin and a Zamoran bolero, are among the traditional dances imbued with energy and passion by Galen and Maria. The fiddling is both powerful and precise, technically impressive and dramatically satisfying.

Four original pieces complete the picture, starting with the swirling evocation of joy which is the title track. There's more of a Celtic feel to Natasha, a cross-rhythm jig, while Cocido seems solidly Iberian to me, crisp staccato beats for those stamping feet. Dots of Light ends on a waltz, beautifully smooth sweet tones on fiddle over a subtle cittern accompaniment. San Miguel Fraser have started their partnership in fine style, and a bright future beckons.”

We are so grateful to everyone who came to our shows, hosted us, shared stories with us, played with us and encouraged us along the way! You have filled our hearts and we can’t wait to be back!!
