Cultural diversity is a driving force for development and contributes to the 17 sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015. It is important that we promote intercultural understanding and cooperation to build a more tolerant and cooperative world.

The first Hague Conference in 1899 was organized in the presence of 26 countries, and was invited by the Russian tsar Nicola II. The Conference addressed the development of laws and customs of war, the determination of levels of armaments and ways to achieve lasting peace in the world.
While the second conference, in 1907, resulted in conventions regulating the laws of war and defining the rights and duties of neutral States in conflicts.
