Wood from Finland stories 🌲💡
NORDAN HAS RELIED ON KURIKKA TIMBER’S QUALITY FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS

NorDan is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of windows, doors and related smart accessories. As one of NorDan’s most important partners, Kurikka Timber supplies wood profiles for NorDan’s factories in Norway, Sweden and Poland.

NorDan wanted to specifically find a Nordic raw material producer and, after a few discussions, Kurikka Timber and NorDan started their collaboration that has continued since 1993 without any interruptions. During this time, both companies have grown significantly, and Kurikka Timber has entirely phased out its sawmill operations.

– Our companies have expanded together and, hopefully, we will continue along the same path, says Ernst Østefjells, NorDan’s Category Manager for Wood.

Østefjells explains that they particularly appreciate that Kurikka Timber’s products represent sustainable development and good professional competence.

– It has always been easy to work with Kurikka Timber, and they supply high-quality products for demanding markets. They are also flexible in finding solutions that support optimal production and delivery, Østefjells adds.

Facts about Finnish sawn timber production and exports

13/03/2024

Last week we were at HCMC, Vietnam. In addition to being at HawaExpo we had an opportunity to visit some wood industry companies. Vietnam is one of the biggest furniture manufacturers in the World and possibilities for Finnish timber from sustainably managed forests are great. Also the construction sector is booming due to increasing amount of resorts, people buying second vacation homes and young population in a need of new homes.

Thank you all for your interest and kindness! The work continues.

What is the oldest logistics company in Finland?

It may be KWH Logistics, the biggest port operator in Finland and a part of family-owned KWH Group. The history of the company dates back to over 140 years when Waldemar Schauman established his transport company in a city know today as Vaasa at year 1882. It started small but during the decades several acquisitions were made and different companies joined the group to strengthen it.

Today KWH Logistics provides comprehensive, smart and efficient logistic services. The company focuses on three business areas - Port Logistics, Industrial Services and International transports – and has over 500 employees on 30 different locations in Finland. With the skilled and committed staff KWH logistics operates annually almost 16 Million tons of cargo in Finnish ports.

We’re happy to have this piece of history of Finnish logistics as one of our partners in the conference. Read more on their website https://www.kwhlogistics.com

Which one was first? Kuhmo or Ursus arctos?

It may be Ursus arctos, better known as brown bear, because Kuhmo Oy’s history dates back to 1955 but brown bear has been wandering around Kuhmo for hundreds of years. Still, during its 70 years of existence, Kuhmo Oy has established its position as one of the biggest sawmills in Finland.

Locating at Kainuu region, near the wilderness, Kuhmo has on opportunity to utilize incredibly durable and tight-grained pine and spruce grown in the harsh Nordic conditions. In addition to the fine raw-material they offer the most comprehensive range of sawn timber – thanks to Kuhmo’s resilient and innovative team.

We’re happy to have Kuhmo once more as one of the sponsors of Wood from Finland Conference. To know more visit their website kuhmo.eu/en/home
