RE: USP STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT AND CHAIR OF STUDENT COUNCIL

Following the successful election of new Executive Officers of council in our 23rd USPSA Federal Council meeting held on the 27th and 28th July, 2021, the USP Student Council is pleased to inform you all that Mr. Mani Mate of USP Cook Islands Campus, was unanimously elected as the President USPSA and Chair of Student Council. Mr. Mani Mate will assume office from 1st September 2021.

Mr. Mate will be based at the USP Cook Islands Campus and will operate from there in the new role. As President of USPSA, Mr. Mate also becomes a full member of the University of the South Pacific Council and the USP Senate, representing all USP Students.

Mr. Mate is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Climate Change at USP Cook Islands Campus. In addition to his continuing education, Mr. Mate already holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Postgraduate Diploma in Arts and Master of Commerce degree. He currently works full-time with the Cook Islands Ministry of Finance and Economic Management as the Director of Development and Coordination Unit.

In congratulating Mr. Mate on his recent election, the Secretary General of USPSA Mr. Emosi Vakarua stated that “we are indeed delighted to have Mr. Mate on board as our new President and Chair of Council, we are ready to support Mr. Mate in his new role”.

Our elected President , Mr Josefa Montfort Cama Tawaketini , a third year student pursuing his Bachelor of Education majoring in Geography and History. The young lad hails from Keteira Moala and has maternal links in Nalawa Ra.

Our Vice President, Miss Kelera Wati Senibuli ; who is also a third year student pursing her Bachelor’s in Agriculture. Miss Senibuli hails from Nasesara Moturiki Lomaiviti with maternal links to Muanaicake Fulaga Lau

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Educational Tour operation team I regretfully announced that the Educational Tour to Lakeba Island, scheduled on 22nd December 2020, has been cancelled.

The reason for cancellation is due to the weather warning issued by the Fiji Meteorological Services that this is the cyclone season and it is expected that the weather condition may change suddenly and dramatically. As such, it has been decided that we would not take the risk by travelling to Lakeba at this time. Your forgiveness and understanding is sought in this matter.

On another note, a big vinaka vakalevu to all our willing sponsors and supporters: the students of USP, Hon. Anare Jale MP, Mrs Sainiana Radrodro, Mr.Viliame Takayawa, the Department of Forestry in Colo-i-Suva, families and friends of students, and the Lau Provincial Office team Roko Tui Lau. Despite this Lakeba tour being cancelled, we give you the assurance that another Educational Tour will be planned in 2021 that will take into account the weather in Lau Group.

For students that have paid forward their fares and other cost, please will contact you for your refunds.

Again, we sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused by the sudden change in plans.
