Our PIRAS Facility project and admin team returning from Waibasaga village after completing the farmer validation and survey activity last week. Waibasaga is located in the highlands of Navosa and across the Sigatoka river. It is inaccessible for vehicles and takes approximately 2 hours walk to and from the village. The validation and survey is part of PCDF’s initiative towards the PIRAS project. This activity will continue in the coming weeks for our targeted communities in Naitasiri and Ba provinces. The activity/project is supported by the Pacific Islands Rural and Agriculture Stimilus Facility (PIRAS); a joint partnership between the Australian Government, International Fund for Agricultural Development, Asian Farmers Association, and Pacific Farmer Organisations. Inside the completed Nakoro/ Navitilevu nursery in Nakoro village, Noikoro district, Navosa. The construction of the nursery is part of the Pacific Islands Rural & Agriculture Stimulus (PIRAS) Facility project targeted at farming communities in the highlands of Navosa, Naitasiri and Ba provinces. The activity/project is supported by the Pacific Islands Rural and Agriculture Stimilus Facility (PIRAS); a joint partnership between the Australian Government, International Fund for Agricultural Development, Asian Farmers Association, and Pacific Farmer Organisations. The overall PIRAS initiative will directly target rural households vulnerable or potentially vulnerable to nutrition insecurity, while also maximising potential and driving productivity in food and nutrition security, safe post-harvest handling, local food preservation and functioning local markets. It is day 3 of our community based #DRR in Rotuma. Today the participants are conducting hazard, risk and vulnerability assessments for their respective communities. This exercise will allow them to better understand their communities capacities, vulnerabilities, risks and hazards and be able to plan for preventative and mitigating factors. By the end of this training, each of the communities will have established their Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMC) who will be responsible for #DRR and disaster management in their communities.
