Toi qui as entendu

J'ai composé Toi qui as entendu très récemment, après avoir découvert ce merveilleux poème d'Odile Riondet lors de l'assemblée générale annuelle de l'ACCREL. Inspiré de l'Évangile de Jean, chapitre 3, il est destiné à être utilisé pour les baptêmes ou pour la deuxième semaine de Pâques et est construit autour d'un seul mot : "Chante !"
Cette version, écrite pour chœur SATB et orgue, est constamment en mouvement et les voix se répondent, mettant en évidence les mots les plus significatifs du texte. L'harmonie navigue entre des couleurs claires à une atmosphère plus intime et méditative, traduisant ainsi la joie intérieure que le texte cherche à exprimer.

Lauda Sion - Motet

I composed Lauda Sion - Motet in 2015 for the national pilgrimage of the National Federation of Liturgical Choirs (ANCOLI) on the theme Come and praise the Lord.
This piece is a motet on the Lauda Sion, text of Saint Thomas Aquinas, a sequence prescribed for the the liturgical feast of Corpus Christi. It's preceded by a prelude that you can find there.
It was performed in Lourdes on the 7th of November 2015 by 6000 musicians in the Basilica Saint Pie X.

The Miserere mei, Deus by Gregorio Allegri is among the most famous choral works.

Composed in year 1638, based on a simple Gregorian chant, the piece is written using a composition technique called faux-bourdon, for nine voices, a ca****la.

This version by the Tenebrae Choir, filmed at St Bartholomew the Great in London, is deeply bright and inspired.

This in an arrangement for flute, two cellos and piano of Bete Aber Auch Dabei - BWV 115, which I consider being one of the most beautiful arias in Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas.
The original piece is written for soprano solo, flute and cello piccolo, instrument about which we barely know nothing, but that he had a very wide range, especially in high pich.

Messe de Saint Roch - Préparation pénitentielle

J'ai composé cette préparation pénitentielle de la Messe de Saint Roch en 2009. Elle est écrite pour chœur SATB et orgue, mais comprend aussi une version à voix égales pour chœur d'enfants. Saint Roch est assez populaire dans le nord de l'Europe et dans la ville de Cambrai (mon diocèse), il y a une église qui porte son nom.
[su_spoiler title="Biographie de Saint Roch" style="modern-light" class="tnb-justify"]Saint Roch est un noble français, orphelin à 20 ans. La légende prétend qu'il portait une tache de naissance en forme de croix rouge sur la poitrine. Il a donné tous ses biens et s'est rendu en pèlerinage à Rome, où il s'est occupé des victimes de la peste. Quand il a contracté la maladie lui-même, il s'est retiré dans un bois pour y mourir. On dit qu'un chien s'est lié d'amitié avec lui, lui a apporté du pain et a léché ses blessures. Il a guéri et est retourné en France où il a été emprisonné, accusé d'être un espion, et est décédé en prison. Il a été identifié à cause de la croix rouge sur sa poitrine. Il est le Saint Patron des chiens.[/su_spoiler]

Ich lasse dich nicht (BWV 1164)

Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn (I will not let you go unless you bless me), BWV 1164 (renumbered from BWV Anh. 159), is a motet for SATB double choir which was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach when it was first published in 1802.

Around 1823 the motet was published as a composition by Johann Christoph Bach, Johann Sebastian's father's cousin, after which its attribution became a matter of discussion among scholars.

The motet consists of two movements: the oldest extant manuscript of its first movement was partly written by Johann Sebastian, in 1712, or early 1713 at the latest.

Its second movement is without doubt a chorale harmonisation by Johann Sebastian composed before c. 1735, when a version of this setting was copied in the Dietel manuscript, but it is uncertain when, and by whom, it was added to the first movement.

Mass of Saint Roch - Gloria

I composed this Gloria from the Mass of Saint Roch in 2011. It is written for choir SATB and organ, but also includes a SSA version for children voices. Saint Roch is rather popular in the north of Europe and in the city of Cambrai (my diocese) has a church named after this saint.
[su_spoiler title="Biography of Saint Roch" style="modern-light" class="tnb-justify"]Saint Roch was a French noble, orphaned at 20. Legend claims that he had a red cross birthmark on his chest. He gave all his possessions away and made a pilgrimage to Rome, where he cared for plague victims. When he contracted the disease himself, he retired to a woods to die. It is said that a dog befriended him, brought him bread and licked his wounds. A spring arose where he laid. He recovered and traveled back to France where he was imprisoned as a spy and died. It was then that he was identified as Roch because of the red cross on his chest. He is the Patron Saint of dogs.[/su_spoiler]

Morenica (Morenika ou La Morena) est un chant de mariage séfarade très populaire qui a probablement été composé avant l'expulsion des Juifs d'Espagne en 1492.

Il a été documenté en 1625 dans le livre de Gonzalo Correa « Arte de la lengua castellana española ».

Vivre d'amour - Canon

J'ai composé le canon Vivre d'amour en 2002. C'est un très simple chant de dévotion écrit sur un texte de Sainte Thérèse de Lisieux, la célèbre religieuse carmélite française. Ecrit pour chœur à l'unisson, il peut être accompagné au piano ou à la guitare. La ligne de basse en ostinato peut être doublée au violoncelle au au basson.
Ce chant a été publié en 2021 par les Editions de l'Arbre Noir et a été enregistré par mes amis Raphaëlle Mellot et Dominique Lang.

Lettre à France is a pop song of Michel Polnareff and Jean-Loup Dabadie released in 1977. Michel Polnareff is at that time "exiled" in the USA and sings his nostalgia for France.

In addition to the wonderful melody and orchestration, the vocal performance in absolutely outstanding. The very high pitch melody requires a voice of exception and makes of it one of the most difficult pop song to perform.

Up to now, the French singer Pascal Obisbo only has been able to do justice to this jewel.
