🌠Watch out, man-made asteroid storm !

When HAYABUSA 2 probe collected its sample on asteroid Bennu, it stirred up a rocky blizzard of small fragments and soil, providing a rich source of primordial material for capture and return to Earth.

Keeping in mind the constraints of micro gravity that reign on asteroids, it has been meticulously created by our VFX artists working long hours on our ASTEROID RUSH feature length doc, seeking advise from top scientists and astronomers and working from home. This shot is actually a composite shot between 1000 fps explosions and 3D render of the nuzzle.

The film should be released around fall 2021 worldwide.

Operating on its own, 150 million miles from Earth, JAXA's probe HAYABUSA 2 is approaching asteroid Ryugu.

This image reveals the incredible bluish and reddish colours at the surface of the asteroid. Nope, asteroids are not all grey !

You don't need to be rich to create factual 3D VFX !

Just make a point, and add a bit of magic...

Here, researcher Natacha Aguilar speak about the astounding dives of the beaked whales. She speculates that the whales dive with empty lungs : they have a lot of good muscle tissues that are great for holding oxygen stores, which probably helps them to increase their dive durations.

With a natural background sampled from volcanic slopes in the Canary Islands, we created and animated the fully rigged model which currently be seen on National Geographic Channels Wild in a show called " Whales of the deep"

To enable the long period without breathing and the rapid recharge at the surface, the southern elephant seal has a very different surface and underwater metabolism. At the surface the seals have a heart rate of between 80 and 110 beats per minute. When diving, the heart rate drops typically to one-third the surface rate and occasionally as low as 3 beats per minute. Circulation becomes limited almost completely to the heart and the brain so that oxygen consumption is minimized.

Cuvier beaked whales are known to dive up to 2996 meters deep for more than 2h30' ! But recently, researchers were astounded when they recorded one animal diving for three hours and 42 minutes. They believe that it is the longest dive yet recorded for any marine mammal. The researchers speculate that the whales might have an extremely slow metabolism, perhaps coupled with larger than average oxygen stores, and an ability to tolerate the build up of lactic acid. They have sort of smaller brains, and quite a small lung volume. And they have a lot of good muscle tissues that are great for holding oxygen stores, which probably helps them to increase their dive durations.

This is a 3D rendered view of asteroid Eros. Eros is famous as the first asteroid to be orbited by a spacecraft, and as the first one on which a spacecraft landed. But it was important to astronomers as far back as 1898, when it became the first near-Earth asteroid (NEA) to be discovered.

The NEAR spacecraft first flew by Eros on Dec. 23, 1998 at a distance of about 2,400 miles (about 3,800 kilometers) and found that the asteroid was smaller than expected and had two medium-sized craters, a long surface ridge and a density similar to that of Earth's crust.

Near pictures were B&W, so it has been meticulously created by our VFX artists working long hours on our ASTEROID RUSH feature length doc, seeking advise from top scientists and astronomers and ... working from home. !

The film should be released around fall 2021 worldwide.

Most asteroids are irregularly shaped, though a few are nearly spherical, and they are often pitted or cratered. As they revolve around the sun in elliptical orbits, the asteroids also rotate, sometimes quite erratically, tumbling as they go.

This asteroid is an M ( Metallic) type, made mostly on Nickel and Iron; this 3D reconstruction is based on existing pictures from probes and a 3d photogrammetric render, lighting and texturing.

Based on hundred pictures taken from the probe in the early 2000s, we managed to reconstruct its fate as it landed in low gravity at the surface of the super massive (31km wide) EROS asteroid 220 million km away from our planet. It is still there, 20 years after its successful landing, despite it was not planed to land ! it was the first time humanity managed to land a probe on an asteroid; NEAR SHOEMAKER even send 15 days worth of data from its unusual position.

More soon in our feature length doc "ASTEROID RUSH" to be released soon.

Design on ZBrush, animated in Maya.
