Poetry is one of the central aspects of the Euryspirit of Eurydice. Old or new poetry represents the soul of the presenter, and the importance of the emotions, thoughts, or ideas that the poet describers. The Eurydice is proud to help to represent such ideas through periodic poetry evenings.The Eurydice will begin a regular series of “Poetry Open Mic Nights”, which will invite anyone to present their poetry selection from the stage. The first such evening will be 27 September, beginning at about 20:30. Participation is open and free.Friends, fellow poets, and those interested in experiencing the spirit of poetry are invited to come and support this poetry at the Eurydice!
Many of you have probably noticed, either by looking at our schedule of events (web page, FaceBook, Instagram), or by stopping by the bar, that there is room for more events. Well, the good news is that I am working with about 25 musical, theatrical, and poetry groups to bring more talent to Eurydice. But for now, there are evenings that need to be filled. That happened, almost by accident, on the 14th of September!I was having a sandwich sitting up at the Place de la Contrescarpe when a group of musicians began setting up to play. They were exclusively brass wind instruments, which here in France is called a Fanfare. They politely waited for a solo artist, singing to a background recording, to finish his set, and then launched into an intricate brass jam session. Unfortunately, after their first song, which was greeted with significant applause from the assembled crowd, they were told by the Municipal Police that such a level of noise was not allowed, so they were required to stop.I thought they were very good, and was disappointed that they had to stop, but I went to talk to them and invite them to come one day to Eurydice to play. They thanked me for the invitation, and I went back to the bar. Nothing was scheduled for the evening, so I was expecting a relatively quiet night. But then the leader of the brass group arrived and asked if they could play at Eurydice that evening. I was thrilled at the opportunity, and said it would be excellent if they would play. So they set up and began! I thought it would be a good idea to gather people, so I went back up to the Place de la Contrescarpe and announced to several groups of people that the music would be at Eurydice. The music continued, although brass bands are pretty loud so I struggled to keep the front door closed (to avoid getting another police ticket for too much noise). Music went on until about 01:00, and a good time was had by all!So who's to say that life isn’t at least partly a series of random events!
Vendredi 11 mars, l’immense Captain Simard est venu présenter son album « Goodbye Chagrin » dans notre modeste estaminet. Nous espérons le ravoir très prochainement pour les absents d’hier. Car quel concert ! quelle énergie ! quel talent !
