President Barrow Launches First-Ever Defence Policy
Today, His Excellency President Barrow Adama Barrow presided over the launch of the country’s maiden Defence Policy, describing it as a historic milestone in The Gambia’s Security Sector.
The Policy, a key objective of the Security Sector Reform, seeks to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, national interests, core values, and commitment to a favourable world order and regional security resilience.
“As you may recall, in 2017, when I took over as President of this country, I made a call for an assessment of the security sector. The purpose was to analyse the existing opportunities and challenges that have to be addressed in the country in respect of delivering accountable, transparent, professional, apolitical, and responsive security services for the people. “ President Barrow said
The President further stated that the launch of the policy is a demonstration of his government’s commitment to security sector reforms, cognisant of the fact that without security, peace, and stability, economic growth cannot be achieved.
“I implore the Ministry of Defence to take full responsibility for the policy implementation process and ensure that the much-anticipated outcomes of the reforms in the Defence Sector are achieved. The Government will continue to work towards enhancing and developing the capacity of the Armed Forces and promoting security awareness and patriotism among the citizens of the country.” He concluded

UDP faces backlash over recent lawsuits
''Bamba Mass, Suntu Touray, Ebrima Dibba, Mboge Saidykan, and many other republicans were made diplomats with no prerequisite training or experience but dishonorable Madi Sisay and his fellow disgruntled republicans never thought it was unethical to promote political patronage.
All they told us was that appointment to the foreign service is based on political considerations - appointing those that will favor your political interests.
This we saw them do in the foreign service as well as in the public service and saw a kid in Muhammed Kanteh being given the appointment of head of intelligence at the State house simply because he’s nephew of uncle Darboe.
What is Ebrima Dibba’s highest qualification?
We ain’t all stupid hence Gambians should stand their ground and refuse to be bullied by any disgruntled republican nor should the high court entertain such nonsense. Throw it out!
You Gambians must be wise enough to see what awaits you if you ever mistakenly settle on handing the presidency to them. For you will witness the worst single party State ever in history and it will be a cult masquerading as government that will outlive the stay of Jawara and Jammeh combined. Be warned!''

Breaking News: Allegations of Corruption Surrounding Yankuba Darboe, the New UDP Chairman for Brikama Area Council, West Coast Region
In a shocking development, Yankuba Darboe, the newly appointed UDP Chairman for Brikama Area Council in the West Coast Region, has been accused of engaging in a corruption project aimed at enriching himself and the UDP party coffers. The allegations bear resemblance to the infamous "Mbalit" project associated with the corrupt Ahmed Talib Bensouda, former KMC Mayor.
The gravity of the situation cannot be overstated, as it involves the looting of council funds and raises concerns about misuse of taxpayers' money. The scheme involves charging citizens an exorbitant fee of D15.00 for waste collection, effectively turning it into a corruption receipt.
Former Chairman, Honorable Sheriffo Sonko (2018 to 2023), had successfully overseen a waste collection system where citizens enjoyed free and efficient garbage sack collection. However, just within a mere three months of Yankuba Darboe assuming office, the introduction of this new charge has left the citizens in dismay.
The West Coast Region, being the largest municipality council in The Gambia, is now bracing for the repercussions of this controversial decision. The reactions of the people are uncertain, especially considering Yankuba Darboe's reputation for emotional, temperamental, and rude behavior towards the public.
The allegations have caused outrage and disbelief among Gambians, who are witnessing what they believe to be a scandalous and outrageous misuse of power. Many fear that this could be the start of a larger corruption campaign strategy aimed at siphoning public funds for personal gain.
As the situation unfolds, citizens are left questioning the motives behind such a sudden and detrimental change in waste collection policies. The people demand transparency, accountability, and an end to corrupt practices in their governance.
Mbai Touray and Uncle Lang Bala Sawo have analyzed UDP Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe's decision to reject cooperation with anyone supporting the NPP party. From this observation, they draw the conclusion that President Barrow is inadvertently making politics challenging for both himself and his party, the NPP.

President Barrow Hails NHRC for the Strides Registered
State House, Banjul, 25th July 2023: President Adama Barrow has pledged his support to the National Human Rights Commission for it to continue working independently during an annual reporting session with the Commission at the State House Tuesday afternoon.
The President said the achievements registered in four years of its existence, including the A status with a Geneva-based human rights watch network, are also a source of pride for the country.
He further reiterated his government’s commitment to building solid institutions while urging the Commission to also widen its scope of human rights practices to other state institutions beyond the executive.
The National Human Rights Commission Chairperson, Emmanuel Daniel Joof, thanked the President for the conducive environment that allows them to work independently to fulfil their pledge to “bring back the culture of human rights and make the Gambia the Capital of Human Rights in Africa.”
He briefed the President on decentralising the Commission to rural Gambia, with offices in Basse and Farafenni serving the Central and Lower Rivers, respectively. It also developed a report on the level of implementation of the TRRC, which it monitors along with research and networking activities.
Mr Joof said closer collaboration with all arms of the executive in promoting human rights will encourage peace, stating, “We have an advisory role to dialogue, mediate and provide information based on our research findings.”
Chairperson Joof concluded that human rights are the business of everyone, and The Gambia should watch out against the rise of hate speech that sows disunity and discord between people.
The Gambia’s Human Rights scorecard has been high since the coming of the Barrow government. It is determined to promote peaceful co-existence, democracy, human rights and respect for the rule of law.
