Fantastic family fun awaits as Four Fun Fridays returns to Andover next month!

Clear your diaries, as Andover’s popular August event is set to return with a jam-packed programme of family friendly activities!

Taking place every Friday in August between 11am to 3pm, Four Fun Fridays will see Andover town centre come alive with colourful acts, live performances, street art and crafts. This year’s event will feature a different theme each week, with carefully curated activities to support each topic.

The event will kick-off with Sports Week on Friday 5 August, where visitors can enjoy some sport-themed walkabout theatre, and take part in family yoga sessions in the Time Ring. Friday 12 August is Nature Week, featuring lots of outdoor activities such as pond dipping and dance performances. Friday 19 August will focus on Friends and Stories and the month will conclude with a Science and Tech theme on 26 August, where top activities will include a special pop-up planetarium taking residence in the indoor garden area of the Chantry Centre.

In addition to the headline acts, families will also have the opportunity to take part in lots of additional activities such as street art, craft workshops, face painting and storytelling sessions. Every week the event will make use of the town’s central location, and activities will be taking place in the High Street and Chantry Centre.

All activities are free of charge and everything will operate on a drop-in basis, with the exception of the mobile planetarium and walkabout theatre tour which will both run a set number of free pre-bookable shows.

The Four Fun Fridays events will run alongside a new programme of additional summer activities this year, which will see families heading to Riverside Park every Monday to Thursday during August to make use of free garden games and ad hoc activities. Every week there will be plenty for residents and visitors to do in the town over the summer holidays.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “Over the past few years, Four Fun Fridays has become increasingly popular and is now a really well-established Andover event.

“This year’s programme features some fantastic activities and shows, and we’re pleased to be able to offer everything for free. So whether you want to pop by for half an hour or spend all day in the town, there will be plenty to see and do every Friday.”

Window Wanderland returns to light up the streets of Andover!

Andover residents, businesses and schools are invited to dig out their scissors and sticky tape and be a part of this year’s Window Wanderland.

Following the success of the 2020 event, which saw more than 114 locations across the town light up their windows with an array of magical light box displays, Window Wanderland will be returning on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November, between 5pm-9pm

This fantastic festival of light encourages residents to illuminate the streets by creating fun window displays which will be lit up during the evening. The unique artworks can then be seen by following a trail throughout the town. Families can register their interest and add their window to a special trail map, which will be available to download ahead of the event.

To help inspire creativity, families will also have the opportunity to join some free creative workshops in person or online over the next couple of weeks, to help shape ideas for their illumined display.
Workshops will be taking place on Sunday 14 November at Andover Library, and two virtual sessions will be held via Zoom on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November. Places for these workshops can be booked by calling the Lights Box Office on 01264 368368.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “Window Wanderland was such a great success last year, it really helped to bring people from the community together during a difficult time and create something truly special in Andover.

“This year we have seen so much interest from residents excited to be involved once again, and I’m looking forward to seeing some inspiring window displays this year.”

For the second year running, Andover Window Wanderland is inviting residents and community members to participate as window makers to create window displays and add a little magic for all to share on the last Friday and Saturday of November. It is completely free to take part and everyone is welcome. A display could be as simple as a candle, book or fairy-lights in a window; it could recreate some lockdown artwork or share a favourite thing about winter. Anything goes… as long as it’s family friendly! Together these windows will form a wonderful winter walking trail on the weekend of 27th & 28th November 2021, 5pm - 9pm.

To help bring ideas to life and plan out window installations, Test Valley Borough Council have put together a series of workshops that prospective window makers can attend for free.

This week invitations went out to participants in Andover's Window Wanderland 2020! For those new to Window Wanderland and we hope the joy keeps on growing! It was established a few years ago by a set designer in Bristol who found herself housebound through illness - long before Covid! Inspired to make a difference, to get to know her neighbours and her outdoor views more interesting Window Wanderland became a fantastic way see our neighbourhoods in a new light!
Today it is an annual celebration across the world with new communities growing from the discovery! Whilst visiting The Lights Andover this month you will also be able to see the people's choice selection of local wildlife photos from Test Valley Chalk Stream the River Anton - Thanks to Hampshire Wight Wildife Trust and The Lights, Andover - Some lovely images and inspiration from our local area - Awesome! 😍
