Therapy Bus
Children's Therapy Service in Kent!
Today is world water day! 🌍 💧
Let’s all just take a minute to appreciate the power of water! Water is one of if not the most important resources on this planet. I plays a key role in our body’s functioning, including bringing nutrients to our cells, getting rid of waste, protecting joints and organs and maintaining body temperature. Did you know the general consensus amongst scientists is that humans can only survive around 3 days without water!
Humans are not the only ones who rely on water of course all living things need water to survive and grow. It something I think a lot of us take for granted we turn a tap and wow fresh clean water comes out! But according to almost one in ten people in the world which equates to 703 million people don’t have access to clean fresh water!
Do you know the recommended amount of water for yourself and your children?
- 4 to 8 years olds should be drinking 5 cups of water a day.
- 9 to 13 year olds should drink 5-6 cups of water a day
- 14 to 18 year old should drink 6-8 cups of water a day
As adults we should be drinking around 2 litres per day.
Happy world water day everyone and remember to stay hydrated!
Today is World Down Syndrome Day! Having worked with many children, young people and adults with Down Syndrome I can say how truly inspiring people with Down Syndrome are.
There is often stigma and a perception around people with down syndrome and learning disabilities in general that they can’t do this or can’t do that and I have seen adults with down Syndrome spoken to like babies. Before my education and experience my perception was similar due to my ignorance from the media I consumed.
But having Down syndrome doesn’t stop them from doing what they love or what they want to do. They have the same wants and needs as everyone else. They work, go to college, drive cars, own businesses and do so many amazing things day to day.
Thank you to all those I have worked with that have helped changed my perception and inspired me over the years!
Hope everyone is having a great international day of happiness!
To help spread the joy here are some free things you can do to help spread some happiness to the world.
- Send a friend or family member a cute pet picture.
- Smile- smiling can boost feelings of social connectedness.
- Pick up litter- grab a bag and fill it for litter to help save our wildlife.
- check in with someone you haven’t spoke to for awhile by text or DM
- regift things you don’t need or want anymore to charity.

ATTENTION ALL SCHOOL’S AND PARENTS OF KENT!!!
If you’re looking 👀 for an occupational therapy assessment for your child or a child in your school we offer three assessment packages to meet your needs.
You might be wondering what is OT? and how can OT help?
The purpose of paediatric occupational therapy is to enable children to participate in daily activities (or occupations) to improve health, independence and wellbeing.
We will look and assess a child’s functional fine and gross motor skills as well as the underlying sensory needs that can impact attention, emotional regulation, motor skills and can present in challenging behaviours.
With this information we can create tailored plan of recommendations to support children overcome their challenge’s. This could be supporting a child’s handwriting, dressing skills, motor skills in PE or even helping them access education.
Our assessment packages start from £300.
We can also offer exclusive discounts to schools wanting to book multiple assessments!

Meet the team:
Hi I'm Emma and I have been an Occupational Therapist since 2014.
During this time I have worked in a specialist educational school, A&E and since 2017 have worked as part of a Children's Community Team with the NHS.
During this time I have progressed through my career with specialist training, leading a pathway and working to ensure all children are able to have the best opportunities through the service we can offer.
Why did you become an OT?
I begun my university life studying a History with Theology and Religion degree! I quickly realised this would not lead to a career I wanted or would be passionate about.
I have always wanted to work with children and from the age of 13 volunteered with my local Mencap group on a Saturday morning and at the Holiday club.
This is where my passion lay with helping children experience new and different things, helping them to achieve their potential in daily life and ensuring they have the correct support to do so.
So my researching began and I discovered OT it encompassed everything I believed in and knew it was the path for me!
Do you have any special interests?
I have a specialist interest in early intervention and believe it is through this we can help children the reach their fullest potential, whatever their start in life, diagnosis or difficulties.
I also have a keen interest in working with children with complex needs and supporting them to achieve their functional goals through therapy intervention and appropriate specialist equipment.
I love working in schools and helping both children and staff to see that sometimes the smallest changes can be the most effective to a child's learning and whole school experience.
What are your favourite occupations out side of work?
I love dancing and danced for many years in Ballroom and Latin American. Now I'm more of a strictly fan girl but give me some music and I'm always up for a boogie.
I also love walking and have completed two ultra marathons with a friend.
Reading is my other favourite occupation and Harry Potter is my go too. To me it's the best way to escape the craziness of life sometimes.
"Hogwarts will always be home"
Meet the team:
Hi my name is Luke and I have been a Paediatric OccupationalTherapist since 2014. During this time I have supported children, families and school with various challenges. I have mostly worked within and have helped develop various pathways including a Sleep Pathway and Developmental Coordination Disorder Pathway. During my time within the NHS I have collected a number of rewards for my hard work and dedication to delivering a high standard of care.
Why did you become an OT?
After struggling at both primary and secondary school I left with 1 GCSE in History! I managed to pick up an apprenticeship in welding. After a couple of years I decided this was not for me and decided to go back to college. It was where they picked up on my difficulties with learning. With good teaching and support around me I managed to hyper focus and aced all my modules including retaking GCSE’s. But it was my struggles in school that made me want to support children like me fulfill their potential which led me to to becoming a registered Occupational Therapist and proud member of .rcot
Do you have any special interests?
I have a special interest in the effects of sleep how it can impact accessing activities of daily living. My interest has led me to developing a sleep pathway in the NHS and have additionally trained as an holistic sleep coach with . I also have an interest in DCD/Dyspraxia this is something that teachers felt I may have. Although I have not got a diagnosis I have found that the advice to support this has helped me achieve what I have today.
What are your favourite occupations out side of work?
I love travelling and visiting new places with my wife. Recently we visited Tenerife and enjoyed Whale watching and stargazing up Mount Teide. Are favourite place in the world though is in Florida. I love the story of Walt Disney and how one man’s dream has inspired so many people and continues to bring some much joy happiness to so many.
Welcome to the Therapy Bus and thank you to everyone that has followed us so far. We would like to introduce you to the founders of Therapy Bus LTD.
We are Emma and Luke both Occupational Therapists with a combined 20 years experience of working in the field of paediatrics.
We want to build a children’s therapy service to be proud of that supports children to meet their aspirations and goals. But also supports families and schools in an holistic manner.
We will be launching 🚀 our website in January 2024 which will provide more details about what we will be offering.

Lest we forgot.
Today, as we should every day, we remember those who volunteered, sacrificed, served, fought and died, for our freedom. We thank you, and we salute those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We will never forget. We will remember you.
🙏
day 5
Clinic today has been all about the small occupations and steps our children make.
As OT’s we feel humbled to be able to help those we work with achieve their goals and complete the occupations which mean so much to them.
day4
Today we have thought about occupations we need to do in our daily lives.
Activities of daily living are tasks we complete everyday such as washing, dressing and feeding ourselves. As paediatric OT’s we have many activities we use in clinic to practice these skills to help our children progress and develop.
Day 3
As OT’s we love our jobs and is an important part of our lives. But we also have other occupations which are just as important.
Both of us have recently taken up running and training for the running has helped both of our physical and mental health becoming an important occupation in both our lives.
day 2 today we have been thinking about the importance of occupations to quality of life. Today we met a little girl that wants to engage in everything! But without a voice she was unable to communicate her wants and needs. Today we looked at AAC devices so she can effectively engage in those meaningful occupations like playing and learning with her friends. 💚
It's in the UK a time to celebrate OT and spread the word of what a wonderful profession it is.
This year’s theme is the word Occupation and what it means. OT’s spend a lot of time explaining what we do when in fact it would be a lot quicker to explain what we don’t do. That is because Occupation means any activity we occupy our time with. Our occupations shape who we are and connect us with others.
Over the week we will share a bit more about what occupational therapy is and celebrating our profession.
Another productive TherapyBus Meeting taken place today and another step closer to opening.
So far we have:
- chosen a name ☑️
- made a logo ☑️
- Registered as a limited company ☑️
- purchased a domain name ☑️
- Set up our Social Media profiles ☑️
- mapped out three initial therapy packages (more info coming soon!) ☑️
- today we have set targets for the website launch and business launch. ☑️
Plenty more to do to get the business going. 🚀
It has certainly been an eye opening experience navigating the world of business. But more importantly we want to make a difference to the lives of children, families and beyond.
We look forward to welcoming you on board the therapy bus 🚌 in Spring 2024!
