Had a call from the owner of this Ford Focus. Car wouldn't start due to suspected flat battery.

Came out to do a jump start and found the battery was original to the car (2012). Did a test on the battery (as the owner stated the last few times they've started it, it struggled). Battery failed the test, was showing only 11% health.

New battery supplied and fitted. Customer happy. Job done 😎

Had a call from the owner of this Ford Fiesta. He was selling it but it started to overheat. Another mechanic told him the head gasket had blown.

We carried out an inspection. No coolant in the expansion tank, so we filled it up and took it for a drive round his village. Temperature stayed at 90 no problem. After stopping and letting it idle for 5 minutes however, it decided to start dumping it’s coolant.

Checked the expansion tank to see if it was cracked (common on these), but found it was simply down to a bad pressure release valve on the cap, as soon as it built up pressure coolant was coming straight out.

What was fitted was a cheap aftermarket cap which fell apart when inspected. Replaced with a genuine brand new Ford cap and even after a spirited 30 minute drive by the owner, no coolant loss.

Had a call from the owner of this Seat Toledo. It needed some work after it failed an MOT.

1 new suspension arm, 1 new drop link and 1 replacement headlight fitted. Took it for a re-test and it passed.

Had a call from the owner of this Ford Focus

Engine was running rough so did a diagnostic. Engine was misfiring so we thought we’d check the spark plugs. Found they’d not been changed in a long time. One decided to snap inside the engine 😬

Common issue on this era of focus if they’ve not been changed for a while. Managed to remove the remains of the snapped plug. 4 new plugs fitted, engine now running sweet.

Had a call from a regular customer. His Nissan Navara had the engine management light and airbag light on.

We went to do a diagnostic and found these lights were still on, but also found the steering wheel stereo controls not working and the horn not working.

The clock spring had failed behind the steering wheel. Replacement sourced and fitted.

So we went out and did a diagnostic. Found the heater matrix was badly leaking.

Refilled the coolant and did a temporary repair.

Owner said it was misfiring. So after a diagnostic, we found it was a bad coil pack.

Coil pack and 4 spark plugs fitted and it’s now running like a dream.

Had a call from the owner of this Mazda Demio.

She’d purchased it off eBay and asked us to go with her to do a few bits on it so she could drive it home (fit a replacement tailgate, brake discs and pads on the front, couple of bulbs, new wiper blades and to unblock the windscreen washer jets).

Unfortunately one of the front brake callipers was faulty. When we saw this, we realised there was no point continuing as we couldn’t get a replacement from any parts stores nearby.

As it was a bit too far to straight bar (70 miles 😆), we hired a trailer and recovered it back.

She told us it needed it’s MOT and was due a service. It did fail on a headlight bulb but after fitting a replacement one, a clean pass. Serviced straight afterwards.

Had the owner of this Ford KA get in touch

She’d just purchased the car and wanted it checked over.

Ran a diagnostic and found nothing, clean bill of health there. Tested the battery as it looked old, showed 37% health so advised getting that changed. Checked all the tyres, the rear were nearly new but the front tyres were wearing on the edge badly, we asked if the car was pulling to one side and she said yes so advised her to get the tyres changed and the tracking checked. No service history with it so also advised her to have it serviced as the oil was black. Otherwise, it was a sound little car 🙂 No rust which is very rare for these KA’s 🙂

Had a message from the owner of this Peugeot 308

He said he could hear a flapping noise and was worried it could be the timing belt.

After some investigation we found it was the auxiliary belt. Part of it had split and had come off. We also found the tensioner had failed so that was replaced as well as the belt.

Had a call from the driver of this Mercedes Sprinter

He’d left the lights on in the cab of the company van overnight and it flattened the battery. The AA said 3-4 hours, we got there in 25 minutes 🚗👍🏻

Quick jump start and that got him on his way 🙂

How has this come round so quickly ???? 😮 I’m sure we only had the heatwave last week 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We’re finishing up work for Christmas on Friday 23rd. We’ll be taking on new work from Wednesday 4th January. We will however still be available between those dates for emergency breakdowns, tyre changes, jump starts and recoveries.
