Just wondering if there would be enough interest to set up an after-school/school holiday handwriting club? Mainly aimed for children who would like to build some confidence with their legibility of handwriting and would be happy working in small groups (up to three per class)? 💚

From January 2022, SMART Paediatrics Occupational Therapy based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire will be offering touch typing sessions. All sessions are led by an Occupational Therapist who has undertaken additional training through the National Handwriting Association. It is suitable for children from around the age of 7 to adulthood.

Digital communication has become so important within the 21st century and is an essential tool for all children. Typing can also provide a welcome alternative to handwriting for children who find this a struggle.

Just like handwriting, it is easy to pick up bad habits with touch typing which become harder to correct over time. SMART Paediatrics offers 30 minute sessions or alternatively, you can book an hour slot to combine with handwriting support too.

You are able to book sessions in at times which suit you and there is availability during school day, after school and at weekends.

My favourite stall at Kidz to Adultz was a company I have not heard of before called Lüsü Sports that offered a range of equipment and ideas. I especially love these! I will be investigating more so I can incorporate these into the O.T. sessions. 💚

Had a fantastic day at the Exhibition Centre up in Liverpool for the Kidz to Adultz event. Great to have this event running again after Covid-19. A day of seminars and learning about new products and companies. I've also got three little teddy bears to bring home on the train 🐻🐻🐻 and some new play equipment for therapy sessions. 😊 💚

Completed part 1 of the webinar series 'Typing: Practicalities for the Laptop User'. Learning some great ideas and strategies which I can start to introduce into Therapy sessions from 2022. 💚

It's a really good idea to learn how to touch type as an additional skill to assist with school work. The National Handwriting Association are advertising a two night webinar course for anyone interested to learn more. 💚

A very interesting webinar on sleep, sensory processing and autism. It really emphasised how crucial sleep is and the impact this has on activities during the day. It also looked at the bedtime routine and the environment from a sensory perspective and the demands of all the individual tasks. Lots of strategies to think about. 💚

A CPD evening for me... Spelling can be a tricky skill for a lot of the students I work with. This webinar has given me some new strategies to try in the sessions, thanks to the SEND Station for hosting the training. 💚

I've just returned from an interesting day up in Manchester looking specifically at Moving and Handling techniques for children and investigating a huge variety of equipment. 💚

SMART Paediatrics Occupational Therapy is pleased to be able to offer the Sensory Processing Measure as an assessment tool. This helps to gain a comprehensive perspective of a child's sensory functioning at home, school and in the community environments. Suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years. 💚

Very pleased to announce that from October 2021 I will be able to offer a Dyslexia Screening Test for students. The Junior (DST-J) is suitable for children 6 years and 6 months to 11 years and 5 months, and the Secondary (DST-S) is suitable from 11 years and 6 months to 16 years and 5 months. The assessment doesn't give a diagnosis of Dyslexia, but would highlight a referral to a specialist who could support your child in this area of their learning. 💚

I've just got back from a two day training course in Stroud learning all about identifying and supporting HLP and DME children. Really inspiring course and lovely to meet some new O.T.'s to network with. 💚💚💚

Very pleased to say I have been officially accepted to study Sensory Integration at Sheffield Hallam University. It will mean being able to offer more to the service I currently provide in the long run. As a result of the study hours, my work hours have reduced to every other weekend and with small availability during the week. Really looking forward to this new adventure and thanks to everyone who's supported my independent practice so far. 💚
