Summary of main points from QoL Workshop: January 28th
This was another really enjoyable and productive day, and I would like to start by thanking everyone for their engagement and participation. It was also really nice to see some new schools represented including those from the NAS. These events work so well because you are all willing to share your experience and ideas and this is exactly the best practice sharing culture which will help us to implement QoL into all our different shaped schools.
I think we all deserve a bit of orange in our day so here you go....free of charge!
1. Schools update: Each school gave an update of where they are up to in terms of implementation and any issues they are having so that we could help to resolve them collectively and address any concerns. Some of the main issues raised related to the allocation of keyworkers and time given to carry out this work effectively. There were also issues raised about the complexity of language used in the survey (please see point 5 below).
2. IT update: Included how keyworkers access QoL survey responses from students and families and what the data analysis looks like in terms of setting targets and tracking progress over time.
3. Independence Plus curriculum: Dean showed the group how we are tracking progress electronically, which is through our FROG VLE. A link to this data is now included in our Annual Review reports. Tony also showed some schools what individual student Independence Plus evidence files look like and how he supports keyworkers in the role of evidence collectors.
4. Annual Review reports: Kiran shared copies of our Annual Review reports and how QoL information from students and families is embedded within it.
5: Alternative survey: We established a working group of schools to discuss the options around alternative surveys for students of lower cognitive ability and/or communication difficulties. Individual schools within the group will report back on their progress at the next workshop. I am aware that Karen and her group from Spring Hill have been working on this and are happy to share what they have done at the workshop on the 28th.
6: All About US: Thankyou to Claire from Peterhouse school who shared their version of 'All About Us', which is the family version of the 'All About Me' document. A copy of the Swalcliffe version is included in the Annual Review report document given out on the day.
