Saturdays match report❗️

U13 hosted Division 2 promotion chasers Scawthorpe Scorpions. Safg started brightly creating numerous chances but were continually denied by the Scawthorpe defence & Goalkeeper. Despite playing really well. We found ourselves 3-0 down against the run of play after 25 minutes. From that point on Scawthorpe took over & ran out 5-1 winners. Not a great day for the girls. After initially doing well their heads went down. One bright spot was a fantastic performance from Flo Edgar. Her effort levels were exceptional. Akira White scored the only goal for SAFG after a great bit of build up play.

Safg U13’s faced top of the table Eckington yesterday. SAFG came out 8-1 winners in a lively game. Player of the match Evelyn Ogden continued her fine form with another hat-trick & two assists in an outstanding performance. Despite playing a year up the far bigger Eckington players couldn’t handle her pace & power. Driving through the defence she was a constant thorn in Eckington’s side. Akira White again got on the score sheet after great build up play & pass from Evelyn. Eleanor Ogden got 4 with some fine finishing. With assists from Ellie-Mae Stanley & the dogged Flo Edgar who simply never gives up. Captain Lily Taylor lead a fantastic defensive performance from Bella Roper-Davies, Layla Davies & Mollie Thomson. Overall it was a great team performance against a very strong opposition. These girls have really got the bit between their teeth lately putting in some stunning performances this season.

For the first time in this team’s history. SAFG U13’s beat Doncaster Belles FC 5-3 to reach the SHWGFL Shield Cup final on April the 20th. Doncaster have a deep rooted history in the girls game. & their u13’s didn’t disappoint. A pulsating end to end game played out with some magnificent performances from both teams. Safg took the lead through dogged determination . As Evelyn Ogden burst through the defence to round the keeper & give us the lead . Doncaster then pulled 2 goals back in quick succession. Before Akira White went on a magical run. Playing a 1-2 before beating a player in the box & slotting the ball in the far corner. The 2nd half started just like the first. With both teams going toe to toe.
Then in a 40 second smash & grab Evelyn Ogden finally broke Doncasters resilience. As she completed her hat-trick powering through the defence to smash in 2 great strikes. Eleanor Ogden then sealed the game a few minutes later for Safg. Doncaster kept trying but a resolute defence lead by an outstanding individual performance from Captain Lily Taylor held on. Then late in injury time they got their 3rd with a thunderous 25 yard strike that left our goalkeeper absolutely no chance. Despite the disappointment of losing the game. Doncaster conducted themselves with dignity . Congratulating us on the win & even staying for team photos. We wish them well for the rest of the season & it was a pleasure to share a memorable game with them. & finally thank you to our sponsor Abbey Vets for helping the girls with our kit.

Saturday 3rd of February Match Report ❗️

⚽️ U13’s had a 5-0 Home win against a resilient Sheffield Steelers in the SHWGFL Shield. 2 goals from Akira White, & goals from Mollie Rose, Evelyn Ogden & Player Of The Match Eleanor Ogden sealed our spot in the Quarterfinals.

⚽️ U16’s lost 2-0 to Pen*stone Church in the SHWGFL Shield.

Our U13’s are wanting players. Were a mid/high level team. Any position considered.

Jan 13th match report❗️

⚽️U16’s won 8-1 Away to Espial Ladies. Goal scorers were Errin Davies with x4. Grace Brown x2, Ellie Evans x1, Ruby Annette’s x1.

⚽️ U13’s played 2 games this weekend. They lost 3-0 on Friday night in a 9v9 against the high level U12 Barnsley & District Schools FA Girls. It was an awesome experience for SAFG against such a technical gifted team. The girls competed well in the game but were undone by some excellent possession football from our hosts.

⚽️Saturday the U13’s beat Laughton Juniors 7-1. Florence Edgar got 2 goals including a 20 yard screamer. She shared player of the match with Lily Taylor who also got on the score sheet. Other goals came from Kelsey Dawson x1, Mollie Rose x1, Eleanor Ogden x1 & Akira White x1.

Weekend Matc Report.

⚽️The U16’s lost 5-1 to fellow promotion contenders Crosspool Girls. The game initially started out a competitive encounter but our girls tired as the game went on. With no substitutes for SAFG, Crosspool came out clear winners in the end.

⚽️U13’s beat Worskop Girls 6-0 as they battle it out for Promotion in Division 2. Player of the match Eleanor Ogden scored 4 goals. Kelsey Dawson & Florence Edgar got the others in a dominant display.

We managed to sneak in a friendly last week to keep us busy over the Christmas period. Our new kits look great. Thanks to Abbey Vets for the sponsorship & MisKits for the great designs . ⚽️ 🍊 👌

December 16th match report!

⚽️ U13’s had a thrilling County Cup Quarterfinal against top division title challengers Barnsley Ladies White. Safg lost 7-5 in an incredible action packed game. We found ourselves 3-0 behind despite playing some really good football. But the girls kept up the pressure & eventually pulled the game back. It was 5-5 with 10 minutes to go. Before Barnsley got a few late goals to book a place in the semifinal. Good luck to them in the next round. Goal scorers for SAFG were Akira White, Casey-Jo Vicary & and a Eleanor Ogden Hat-trick. In the past 2 weeks weve played 2 of the best teams in Division one & looked more than capable of beating teams at that level. The girls played out of their skin today & pushed their opponents all the way. The future looks really bright for this lot. With the style of football they play. We believe they have the potential to be one of the top teams over the next few years.

⚽️ U16’s also Played Barnsley Ladies in their League Cup game. They lost 6-1 against their higher division opponents.

Saturday 9th of December Match Report.

⚽️ U16’s had their game postponed due to the weather

⚽️ U13 played Division 1 title challenger’s Club Doncaster Away in the league cup. SAFG lost 4-3 after extra time in a thriller . These are a very strong team who beat us comfortably last season. Safg started brightly but found themselves 3-0 down within 20 minutes. The girls dug in . Refused to lay down & put up a hell of a fight. 2 goals from Evelyn Ogden & 1 from Eleanor Ogden brought the game back to 3-3. But in extra time our opponents scored against the run of play to knock us out of the cup. Despite the result the girls can hold their heads up high having more than competed with a top division team for large parts of the game . We were unfortunate not to get the win. Player of the match was Kelsey Dawson. She was outstanding for us today.

Weekend match report!

The U13’s managed to play their League Cup game against Wisewood despite poor weather. SAFG came out 5-1 winners . Player of the match Akira White bagged a hat-trick with some wonderful finishes. Goals from Eleanor & Evelyn Ogden sealed a comfortable win for the girls. Next week we’re in round 2 of the cup against 3rd placed Division 1 side Club Doncaster. This will be a good test for the girls to see how they fare at that level.

A fantastic win for the U13’s today . They hosted Top Division team Bramley Sunnyside Blue in the county cup. SAFG won the game 4-3 after a tense finale. They now face Barnsley Ladies White in the quarterfinal on December 16th. The girls were 4-0 up for a large part of the game. Making a very good team look average. Evelyn Ogden got us of to a flyer with a simple tap in the 3rd minute . Moments later Eleanor Ogden raced through on goal, beating 2 defenders to put us 2-0 up. Eleanor then scored a wonderful 20 yard strike to leave our opponents 3-0 down within 10 minutes & looking completely shell shocked. Florence Edgar then sealed the game with a fantastic 25 yard lob. Bramley pulled 3 late goals back to create a tense finish. But the girls held out to beat their higher division opponents. A notable mention for Jessica Hitchen who was superb in defence. Working really hard to get back. But she was pipped for Player of the match by Kelsey Dawson . Who at times was simply a class above in midfield. 👌
