Taking a long walk in woodlands and breathing in the fresh air as you forage, coming home to the crackling of a fire while you’re reading your favourite book.

As May approaches I thought I’d give an update here on what I’ve been working on and my plans for the upcoming month.

I’m really proud of my Vivid Spring Collection, and this month I launched them with my sparkly new website. It’s taken a lot of back end work, but I’ve got to say that using Squarespace has made it a lot easier.

This month I’ve been promoting the collection, continuing to work in the website SEO and also drafting out illustrations for May.

What’s Happening in May?

May is MerMay! A month long challenge for artists and creatives using prompts to create mermaids in their favourite medium.

I’m taking part in Emily Harvey Art’s 12 Days Of Mermaids. She’s prompted 3 mermaids for each week, and I’m so excited!

The prompts are out, I’ve got my reference ready, so the work will begin this week to get the first 3 finished and ready, and then I’ll keep working on the others as the weeks go by.

This year I’ll be incorporating LGBTQ+ flag colours into each illustration, and as I did last year, will be creating a diverse and more representative collection.

Day 28 of is Low Stock

A number of my Ink Drawing prints from Inktober are soon to leave my Etsy store. So if you want to grab one, make sure to do it by this weekend as they’ll be gone shortly after!

Day 24 of is Milestone

Today I’m 41 🍾 and to celebrate this milestone I’m here celebrating my first milestone as a business, and that is opening up a shop.

I remember being so nervous (what’s new 😆) but excited to open up a Etsy store front. I felt like it was the first in many validations I get into my head about being an artist.

Fast forward to today and I’ve not just made sales in that store, but I’ve also painted my first paid commission and I’m launching my new website in under a weeks time!

Day 22 of is Mistakes / Lesson

Mistakes are lessons to learn and grow from. Trying something new or instinctively can be scary, but if we don’t try then we just sit stagnant.

I hold myself to high standards, but they’re my standards, and so every mistake I make I have to remind myself that I’m still growing and it’s fine to make mistakes. Just work through it, and it’ll all turn out 🤞

I’m working everyday to let go and forgive myself for my mistakes, because otherwise I get stuck in my head and feel like I’m not good enough.

But I am good enough 😎

Day 7 of is Favourite!

I’m not a one favourite person if I’m honest, so this was hard!

This handsome badger was originally painted in watercolour in my A4 sketchbook. What I like about it is the look he’s giving and the different tones in the fur. The striking ink lines frame him perfectly, I really enjoyed this small collection.

It’s been quiet around here, because I’ve been busy working away, painting and dealing with life’s daily chores (check out my stories for more).

As we all know, self care is important and a healthy body is both physical and mental 🧠

So here I am teasing you about my new Healthy Mind Journalling Kits!!

I wanted to create a collection of journaling kits based on my own experiences with therapy, and proven psychological and neurological methods. They will be easy to follow and based on proven science rather than just opinion.

I want them to be accessible, in differing sizes and uses, but to also nice to look at. Because, after all, we are creative & q***r here. 🎨🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Journaling as a form of therapy has been proven time and time again to improve your mental health. So why not promote that with some creativity!

I’ve got some work to do to finish them all off, but I’m so excited for you to see them, and use them to better your own mental health.

WIP Winter Stag 🦌

Working on this today, this is ~3 hours so far. Next to attack is the figure in the foreground. I’m thinking of refining the whole piece using pencil, but we shall see!

Fuzzy Tarantula & Kiwi

There’s something creepy yet beautifully elegant about tarantulas. I’m still not a fan of spiders, but these furry creatures are growing on me.
