Check your EHCP draft.
Don't assume that what you've submitted will end up in your final document.
It likely won't, for a multitude of reasons, and once the draft is finalised it can be a long old process to rectify it.

It really frightens me how little current knowledge and research is known and understood by so many who are working to support the neurodivergent community. Being able to re-regulate your body is a skill. It's a skill that is undertaught, underrated and undervalued. Being able to recognise that your body needs re-regulating is also a skill - one that lots of people (both neurodivergent and neurotypical alike) are unable to do. It's why we all lose it on such a regular basis. This neurodivergent person was doing both these things. Able to recognise they were dysregulated and able to take some steps to rectify it. When they tried to rectify it, they were told off, apologised for (in front of them) and then threatened with the loss of a privilege likely only possible because they had their carer/PA with them. Punished for doing exactly what they needed to do to take care of themselves because of a lack of basic understanding, training and curiosity. It breaks my heart 💜 #neuroaffirming #neurodivergent #disability #supportforyoungpeople #supportforfamilies #heartbreak #disabilityawareness #disabilityrights #regulation #emotionalregulation #sensoryregulation #sensoryrecovery #sendadvocacy #advocacy #advocacymatters #standupforwhatsright #believingindifferent

I've learnt this one the hard way. Schools and settings read Section A. SENDCOs understand that some of the most important and relevant information will be found here. Make sure what you have to say ends up in your young person's EHCP without being edited for convenience. Your voice and your young person's voice matter 💜 #speakup #ehcp #sectiona #ehcpsupport #ehcpjourney #sendlaw #send #sendco #senco #neuroaffirming #neurodivergentlearners #neurodivergent #neurodivergentlearners #advocacy #advocacymatters #yourvoicematters #believingindifferent
It's so hard to give up that control. We are so used to adults controlling play. To playing in specific ways. To keeping things pristine and ordered and pretty. Instagrammable. This is where the learning happens though. Most times when either we or our young people lose it, dysregulation is what's happening. What's interesting about this is that we aren't taught much, if anything, about what dysregulation is and how to re-regulate our bodies once we've become dysregulated. A big part of my work with neurodivergent young people, their families and with neurodivergent adults is exploring what it means to be dysregulated and how to spot the signs that dysregulation is on its way. We also spend lots of time exploring how understanding the way our bodies and brains uniquely process sensory information is often the key to understanding how to successfully re-regulate again 💜 #dysregulation #sensorydifferences #sensoryprocessing #reregulation #losingit #neuroaffirming #supportforyoungpeople #neuroaffirmingparenting #believingindifferent Video Description: A short 7 seconds clip of a projector light with green stars and blue clouds moving across the ceiling. The projector is stood on a white unit which also has a lit candle on it, giving off a purpley hue. A picture is above the unit of a fishing boat at sunrise, on an English coast.
I'm seeing this more and more. It is so important that we think about outcomes not just in terms of their usefulness now, but in terms of what they are teaching our young people on a longer term basis. It's ok to question the outcomes. It's ok to question the professionals. If you don't feel comfortable it's ok to have that conversation 💜 #ehcp #iep #outcomes #sensupport #send #neuroaffirming #supportforyoungpeople #supportforfamilies #youngpeopleatrisk #believingindifferent
One thing I am always reminding parents when I work with them is how much work they are actually doing. It's so easy to see all the things we aren't doing, or that we haven't done yet, and to forget all the millions of micro moments we are putting in at an almost cellular level. To be a neuroaffirming and trauma responsive parent is to work with your young person in a way that accepts, celebrates and affirms who they are. In a way that reinforces the idea that they are loved without question. That they are whole. That they don't need to change. Lots of neurodivergent and trauma impacted young people depend on their caregivers to aid them in regulation in a way that demands far more than that of their neurotypical peers. Parents and carers remain an extended part of their young people's nervous system, following on from the blueprint that is laid naturally during early infancy into toddler, primary, teen and even adult years. This means that in order to meet the needs of our young people, we must be in flow. Ready to accommodate the shifts that inevitably come as our young people ebb and flow into different cycles of their lives and their development. This is hard, hard work. Doing your own healing and regulation work alongside becomes a necessity. You practice being able to regulate, adjust, shift - all at a moment's notice. Practice being able to address the physiological imbalances that occur when you shift from high stress into relative safety and back again. Be kind to yourself. Remember the hard work you are doing. The minutes and hours you are putting in everyday. You are doing amazing, powerful work. Incredibly important work. I see you 💜 #neuroaffirming #supportforyoungpeople #neuroaffirmingparenting #coregulation #believingindifferent #iseeyou Video Description: A close up of my hands sewing embroidery onto a blue canvas with tree patterns. I've just added this new testimonial to the website. It's written by one of the amazing young people I get to spend my time with 💜 If only everyone else in my life thought I was this chill 😂 #interestledlearning #neuroaffirming #neurodivergentlearners #supportforyoungpeople #neurodivergent #eotas #interestledlearning #believingindifferent Image description: A still from my website, with an image of a pinky purple sunset at the top. At the bottom a review is written by a young person who is 14 years old.
Wanted to share a few website updates. Hopefully clearer now. Aimed for a sense of calm throughout - really want it to be a safe space to land 💜 #neurodivergentlearners #neuroaffirming #neurodivergent #neuroaffirmingparenting #eotas #ehcp #believingindifferent #websiteupdate #supportforyoungpeople #supportforfamilies
I'm not going to post the original video that I'm talking about here. If you'd like to see it, you can find it on SEND Reform England. I really debated about posting this. I want this space to be safe, so talking about triggering things feels a bit counter to that. I'm trying to remember that to be safe we need to be able to advocate for ourselves, and that by sharing this here I am hopefully helping other people to advocate for themselves too. We've had this for about a year and a half. We spotted it in a discount store and even bought two of them because we thought they'd be such a hit. Turns out they weren't 😂 Today it's been rediscovered on our own terms and it's just right. We're even breathing fire 🐉🔥 #dragons #forgottentreasures #selfdirectedlearning #selfdirectedplay #inmyowntime
