A walk in nature allows for moments of blissful quietude. Those are rare, these days, when all the world is so fast, when cities are loud and energetic and filled with vibrant life. While I love life in the city, with all the charms it has to offer, I feel this need to, every once in a while, walk through a place where the trees, the wind and the sky will be my companions. Jane Austen felt the same way, and expressed this view through Fanny's voice in Mansfield Park - the bliss one finds in nature, and how it allows the mind to challenge itself into poetries.

Also, notice this wonderful blue sky in Portugal - I've been making my friends in colder climates very jealous πŸ˜‚

The oldest book in my library. Do you know EΓ§a de Queiroz? 'A Ilustre Casa de Ramires', by EΓ§a de Queiroz. First published in 1900; this is a 1920 edition, with a signature that has next to it the handwritten date of 1922, meaning this copy was probably acquired at around that time. The Illustrious House of Ramires is a tale about the woes of writing historical romances, a satire of the political and economic convulsions of its time, and a questioning of individual approaches to historical science. . . #classicbooks #classicliterature #eΓ§adequeiroz #oldbooks #vintagebooks #bibliophile #antiquebooks . . πŸ—οΈ Classic books, classic literature, EΓ§a de Queiroz, EΓ§a de QueirΓ³s, A Ilustre Casa de Ramires, dark academia, light academia, old books, antiques, antique books, bibliophile, bookstagram, classic bookstagram, antiquity, book collection

Do you love thunder, or do you fear it? Or both? September reached Portugal with rain and thunder, something that I hadn't seen happening since the early 2000s. As the heat is set to return next week, I took advantage of one of my favourite weathers to record this short moment: Wuthering Heights against the clouded sky. 🏷️ #classicbooks #classicliterature #emilybronte #wutheringheights . . πŸ—οΈ Emily BrontΓ«; Wuthering Heights; classic literature; classic books; classic book fan; classics reader; autumn; autumnal; thunder; rain; rainy weather; autumn weather; dark academia; light academia; bookstagram; classics bookstagram; vintage; vintage vibes

I'll make a post to further explain psychological realism later this week, but it will make complete sense to those who have been following me for a while, now. . . #writer #regencyromancewriter #amwriting #amwritingromance #amwritinghistoricalfiction #mjlloydauthor

Truth. Introverts aren't usually the main characters in the media. When I was a teenager, I remember thinking the reason I didn't really have close friends was the fact I couldn't be the fun, extroverted type. Nowadays, I have accepted I am the fun, introverted type. I am not shy, by any means, but I need to be alone to repose, and that's perfectly valid. . . #writerscommunity #writersofinstagram #Regencyromanceauthor

Yes, I am still thinking about Dracula. . . #bookstagram

I've been wanting to write full-length novels for many years, but I did not truly come to a place of prioritising it until 2021. This does not come from a place of regret - sometimes, we need to prioritise other things in our life, and that's ok. But once my PhD was over, and I felt the weight of that stressful responsibility off my shoulders, I thought it was the right time. Nowadays, I have a sort of assembly line. I opted for self-publishing, for several reasons. I make my own covers, also for several reasons. I have everything ready and set - I only need to focus on the writing, which is often the hard part. Many a day I feel the urge to procrastinate, aimlessly scrolling through Reels, but now that I see writing as a non-negotiable, I do it every day, religiously. 15 or 20 minutes a day will make a book by the end of the year. Writing is now a priority for me. A non-negotiable. Much of that procrastination is self-doubt - why do it, if my writing may not take off? Because I love it. I love telling stories. I love the sensory experience of creating description. I love what I have to offer in this field, and I have some people who love it with me. That makes me happy, and makes it worth it. Do I hope my books really take off, one day? Yeah, of course! Every writer does. But even if they didn't... It would still be worth it. . . #Regencyromanceauthor #romanceauthor #romancewritersofinstagram #writerscommunity #writer

Is this my favourite 19th century book? Not by a mile. I do not like Emma Bovary in the slightest, but I suppose I am not meant to like her, either way. The ending is pretty ironical, and also pretty common to see in 19th century works - I know at least two other cases where the adulterous woman perishes by the end of the novel. . . #darkacademia #literature #classics #classicliterature #hopelessromantic #darkacademiaaesthetic #gustaveflaubert #madamebovary

I love how Jane Austen described Catherine Morland as an unlikely heroine. The work itself is pretty humourous, and Catherine's innocence and relatability is pretty sweet. . . . #romance #academia #darkacademia #literature #classics #classicliterature #englishliterature #hopelessromantic #darkacademiaaesthetic #janeausten #northangerabbey

Lewis is a pretty neutral character. He is a snob, often unkind, and has very weird priorities - but he is usually there for Albion Eden. A reminder that some people are neither good nor bad, but something in between. . . #romance #academia #darkacademia #literature #classics #classicliterature #englishliterature #hopelessromantic #darkacademiaaesthetic #regencyromance #regencyromancebooks

'The Three Musketeers' isn't my favourite work by Dumas, but I am still tempted to read the sequels, because I grew up watching 'The Man in the Iron Mask' - which is a loose adaptation, sure, but it caught my eye... . . #threemusketeers #thethreemusketeers #alexandredumas #bookquotesofinstagram
