One of the things I get asked a lot by other potters is how I get my letters looking so crisp. The answer is PRACTICE. It’s totally boring but like with everything, I tried many variations of stamps and glazes and eventually I found a process that worked for me. But I made many, many sh*te pieces. Some poor sods out there actually bought them. This piece is one I made for my dear friend and now that I see it again, I cringe. But there you go. Lots of practice, lots of crap and eventually I make improvements. No doubt I’ll look back at my current pieces and think they’re a disaster but that’s the life that of a potter. Never quite satisfied….

2 mins 32 seconds and they were all gone. I should feel happy but the fairly sizeable barrage of grief I get after these mug drops always taints the joy.

I think I confused a few people with my previous post about mug drop etiquette. When I said type fast, I meant when you are placing your order via the website. The past couple of drops the mugs have been snapped up at lightning speed so it’s very much first over the line wins!

Assuming the latest kiln firing is fine, I’ll aim to get everything photographed and uploaded onto the website tomorrow so that you can have a look at what will be available before Saturday 😁

Mug drop - Saturday, midday.

Never have I been so happy to see a load of messed up* mugs! They under fired 🙌🏻 which means the glazes didn’t fully cure and none dripped and stuck to the shelf. Phew! What a stress.

So the plan is that the electrician comes today and sorts the power connection to allow the kiln to fire without it shutting off. Then I’ll put a handful back in and fire them again and check they’re ok. All being well I’ll be back on track for Saturday’s drop 🤞🏻

Oh god. Not going to lie, I’m fully panicking. The power to the kiln has failed intermittently and now I have no clue how much heat work the current batch has been subjected to. But it’s likely to be too much, which results in glaze dripping off the pieces and onto the kiln shelf. If they’ve very stuck they come apart like the one in the picture.

Time will tell. I’ll be able to open it tomorrow and inspect everything and see what the state of play is.

Until then I’ll be fearing the worst. Let’s hope they’re not all ruined.

Right kids, all being well I’m going to do the next mug drop second week in July, probably weekend of 12/13/14th.

As always I’ll announce the exact date and time once I’ve decided. Start doing your fingers exercises peeps, it’s first past the line.

Ok gang, I’ll be closing custom pre orders after this week. I’m taking a break in July so I have to limit the numbers for now. I’ll reopen them in August though so don’t panic.

Remember, custom pre orders are not announced. They’re snuck onto the website on an ad hoc basis at random times of the day around the clock so plenty of opportunity for anyone who’s living in a different different time zone to bagsy one.

Simply a matter of good timing.

They’re usually gone within an hour so if you check the website and they’re showing as ‘sold out’ or ‘coming soon’ then you need to keep checking.

This one’s for Instagram who have, once again, removed a post. This time because apparently I’m inciting violence. I mean…

Sadly some people see my posts find them offensive and report them. There isn’t an option for bad language so they pick something else.

Though I have to admit, knowing my ‘C’ mugs rile some people so much gives me a thrill 🤣 That’s why we’re here folks, to show love in a slightly shocking way 💙

Jeepers, what a rollercoaster. Instagram removed one of my reels because it was offensive, I appealed and now they’ve reinstated it. It’s the reel with all the ‘see you next Tuesday’ mugs.

I totally get that some people don’t like the language I use, my Mum included, but wouldn’t it be nice if they just moved on rather than reporting my post? I make my mugs with love and positivity.

As Taylor would say, haters gonna hate. I guess that’s just life.

Note to self, use the rigid crate for greenware.

Ok gang, I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I’m aiming for 7th June 7pm for the next mug drop.

I’d hoped to do it at the end of May but I’m too far behind 😕

As always, it all depends on the kiln gods being kind and not cracking loads of pieces during the firings.

I spent ages yesterday thinking about whether there’s a way for me to make my ceramics faster. To somehow meet the demand.

I know it’s frustrating for the mugs to appear constantly sold out or unavailable. I’d love to please everyone and create everything you want and hear about all the funny or heartwarming stories behind them. But it’s just me and my two hands here. I can only work so much and make so many.

I’m trying to stay grateful about the fact you love them and not stress about the fact I can’t meet the demand.

Thanks for being here and being patient. Who knew sweary mugs would be so popular?

Hi, I’m Alice, I make ceramics, I don’t do well building websites so I have found someone who will do it for me 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

It’s such a relief! There’s something so important about knowing when to delegate. I planned to save money and do it myself but I haven’t got the time or the skills. So in the not too distant future there will be a new Blue Air Ceramics which should be a vast improvement.

It’s workshop day 🙌🏻 I love seeing how a bunch of people take some balls of clay and turn them into beautiful creations.

Peeps you’re stressing me out! Custom orders take weeks to be made (as per the description on the website) so if you’re waiting please be patient.

Also, if you’re planning to order a custom mug remember that they get added weekly to the website on an adhoc basis. If you check and they’re sold out, keep checking.

Demand is currently higher than my ability to make them so I’m afraid I have to trickle them onto the website.

If you’ve been following my stories you’ll know that this week my dad flew over to help me lay my kitchen floor and build a new storage unit.

He also came to Sunday’s workshop and I had to bring my son too so there were three generations of us there.

I find it hard to stop and appreciate these moments, when I’m with my parents I sometimes find myself slipping back into stroppy teenager mode 😆

But I’m glad I stopped and captured the two of them, precious times.

Can I explain something? Yes I love the C bomb but no, I don’t just throw it out there willy-nilly. It’s reserved for the right moment, and when the moment is right I use it with glorious abandon. Loving a word doesn’t also mean wasting it. Who’s with me?
