In the birding world, this little fella is an 'LBJ' - a 'Little Brown Job'. To give him his proper title, he is a Cetti's Warbler.

Like so many 'LBJs' in the UK, when you look closely he is beautiful. He was a pleasure to paint.

I've been lucky enough to see one of these elusive birds at RSPB Middleton Lakes and RSPB Sandwell Valley. Its loud, abrupt, glorious outbursts of song are what truly makes the Cetti's Warbler a remarkable little brown bird.

Fun birdie fact - the Cetti's Warbler is named after an eighteenth-century Italian Jesuit Priest, Francesco Cetti.

Radical Romantics exhibition yesterday.

I've been fascinated by the Rossettis and Pre-Raphaelite art since I was young. An inspiring show. Highly recommended and running to September.

Shakespeare has been a big part of my life for years. I've been lucky enough to play many roles with and love reading and watching his plays.

My home is full of bard-inspired bits and bobs and this portrait takes pride of place downstairs 😊🎭

Whilst a single reference photo is ideal, sometimes it's not possible. Loved the challenge of sketching Hollie and her beautuful pet dachshund Harry from several different photographs. Delighted with the result and so is the client which is what matters most. 🤗👍🐶🎨

When I set up my portrait business at the start of the year I promised myself that I'd still paint for pleasure so this one is staying at home.

Good Friday seems the perfect day to share one of my Caravaggio copies. This is The Betrayal of Christ. Like so many artists, I continue to be inspired by this master painter. Just love the use of chiaroscuro. What an incredible talent 🎨

This is my gorgeous collie-lurcher Izzie. Don't be deceived. She has her moments like any dog but I wouldn't change her for the world. I loved painting her and can't wait to make a start on my first pet commissions since launching my business.
