In the heart of Birmingham, where cultures intertwine,
We gather at Damascena Coffee House, a place quite divine.
With languages diverse, and stories untold,
Our Monday sessions, a sight to behold.

From Burma to Japan, and places afar,
We join hands together, beneath the same star.
Marcelina, Javier, and Abeer with grace,
Amreen and Anika, each finding their place.

From Riyadh to Egypt, the journey's begun,
With every word spoken, barriers undone.
In the embrace of Arabic, we find our way,
A tapestry of unity, woven day by day.

At Damascena's hearth, our sanctuary lies,
Where learning and laughter, together arise.
To Ayman Moustafa and staff, our gratitude flows,
For fostering connection, where friendship grows.

So come one, come all, let's make memories bright,
In the warmth of our sessions, let's take flight.
For in the world of languages, borders fade away,
Join us on this Arabic Learning journey, let's seize the day!

Assalam-u alaykum, Jazak Allah to everyone who came yesterday. So our previous strategy has been to focus on learning Arabic grammar, and whilst this is key to us learning Arabic, the attendees felt that the ability to speak was still not progressing as we would have wanted to, So this year (8 lessons ago) we changed our new approach to learning by is from the point of making conversation.

We started with Introductions, greetings, about us and our family. With these topics, we covered lots of dialogs that help put what we are learning in context. Doing this we can start to put what we learn into practice straight away. Where a grammar element comes up, e.g. nunation, definite/indefinite articles, personal and possessive pronouns, use of singular, dual and plural nouns etc. we then cover this at the point we need to.

So this week we looked at a story between two boys Waleed and Sami, they explain what their daily routine is, from waking up to going to bed. So in this lessons we touched on numbers (1-100), we looked at telling time (in hours atm). We looked at VERBS... finally its only taken a few years, but in all seriousness, the most important part of the Arabic language as this covers all the action words that are part of our daily lives.

so in the upcoming weeks we will be touching up verb conjugation, so if you need to practice on this please come to the meetups. We have also decided to change the Sunday to be our learning new elements day, as we have more time and more importantly its quieter. On Mondays, our focus is just practice.

On request from the team, we will be practicing, possession, singular, dual and plural numbers, and verb conjugation. So please RSVP if you would like to attend.

Arabic, like any language, can be studied from books, online resources, and countless other sources. Yet, what sets our learning experience apart is the invaluable opportunity we have to practice and refine our newfound knowledge together.

In our sessions, we are more than mere students; we are a team, a family, united by a shared passion for learning, growth and discovery. Each one of us plays a vital role in this collective journey. As we learn, we also teach. As we grow, we also uplift.

Remember, there is no "I" in TEAM. Together, we are capable of achieving far more than we ever could alone. Our strength lies in our unity, our willingness to support and encourage one another every step of the way.

In the grand tapestry of life, it is the bonds we forge and the connections we nurture, like we did with our brother Shiraz that truly enrich our experiences, gives us beautiful memories. And as we navigate the intricacies of learning Arabic, let us cherish the camaraderie and sense of belonging we find in each other's company.

So, let us continue to learn and grow together, knowing that our collective efforts will lead us to heights we never dreamed possible. Together, everyone achieves more.

In these past eight weeks, I've witnessed your unwavering commitment to excellence. I've seen the way you've embraced challenges head-on, refusing to be deterred by setbacks or obstacles. Your willingness to step out of your comfort zones fills me with boundless hope for the future.

Also, apologies if your brains had an overload on Saturday. As your friend, brother, student, teacher and guide, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside you on this path of learning and discovery. Your continued persistent, commitment enthusiasm and dedication ignites a fire within me, and is the fuel that keeps me coming back every week from Rugby to complete the learning journey that you started.

So, as you rest and recharge for the week ahead, I leave you with this thought: the greatest achievements in life are often born out of perseverance and hard work. Embrace the challenges that come your way, for they are the stepping stones to greatness.

Please if you have not done so, RSVP for tomorrows session.

As the sands of time slip away,
In these dwindling days, we humbly pray.
For the strength to seize each fleeting hour,
To deepen our faith, to increase our power.

For who among us knows the fate,
If we'll witness another Ramadan's gate?
So let us cherish this moment, this chance,
To bask in His mercy, to join in the dance.

With each sunrise, a whisper of grace,
Guiding us closer to His embrace.
And in the depths of our soul's yearning plea,
Wondering if next year's light we'll see.

But fret not, for in this sacred space,
We find solace, we find His grace.
For whether it be our final bow,
Or another Ramadan's light, we vow

To make the most of these blessed days,
In worship, in love, in grateful praise.
For Allah's mercy knows no end,
In every Ramadan, His blessings descend.

So let us strive, let us persist,
In righteousness, in faith, in this sacred tryst.
For in the heart of Ramadan's fleeting span,
Lies the hope of a soul reborn, a better plan.

Our beautiful brother Shiraz

In the journey of life, we're blessed to meet,
Beautiful souls whose presence is sweet.
They touch our hearts with their gentle ways,
Guiding us through life's intricate maze.

Our dear friend Shiraz, a gem rare and true,
With a heart of gold, like morning dew.
In every word, in every deed,
His Ahlaq shone bright, a noble seed.

Oh, how we long to be like him,
In character, in faith, in vim.
Though he's not here, his spirit lives on,
In every prayer, his name is drawn.

Dear brother, though parted in flesh,
Your memory, in our hearts, enmesh.
We'll cherish the moments, the laughs, the tears,
And hold onto your wisdom, through passing years.

As you soar to Jannah's celestial height,
May your soul bask in eternal light.
In our duas, you'll forever reside,
A cherished friend, our hearts' guide.

Salaam All

I pray you are well, Insha Allah we will be having another opportunity to advance our Arabic learning forward.

In today’s session we will be covering how to talk more about you and your family. We looked at possessive suffixes and how they are used to say something or someone is mine, yours his, hers e.g my aunt Jane, your uncle etc.

Today we will be extending this further by using,

- i have, we have in context of real life scenarios
- Using comparative and Superlative forms like صغير —> الأصغر
- Looking at a poem about our country and homeland وطني
- Also as usual looking at dialogues to help us practice speaking
- Reading Arabic without Harakaat(vowel signs) which is also our ultimate goal.

We really are covering so much good stuff, in a new format where your growth is definite and in a way we have never done before and i hate to see everyone miss out.

If you haven’t yet RSVP then please do so.

Alhamdulillah as always to everyone that attended and especially to our mentor Abeer, it was so good to have you help and guide us. I know todays lesson was challenging and i know we put everyone on the spot including myself but Alhamdulillah you all shone.

It was again amazing to see you work through dialogs 1–3 with harakat and even more amazing to see everone work through dialogue 4 and having gone through half of it realizing that you were reading Arabic without Harakaat as you would see on signs, books, public places.

So very well done to everyone. Insha Allah we will expand our conversation to asking more questions

So Insha Allah lots to cover, please RSVP for the next session

In the gentle dawn of Ramadan's grace,
Day six unfolds, a sacred embrace.
With whispered prayers, I start the day,
Seeking guidance along the way.

Beneath the crescent moon's soft glow,
I feel Allah's love, deep and aglow.
With every breath, His presence near,
Fills my heart with peace, calm and clear.

On this sixth day, I reflect and pray,
Grateful for blessings, come what may.
In each moment, His mercy I find,
A guiding light, pure and kind.

Through fasting and prayers, my spirit ascends,
In the journey of faith, my soul amends.
With every sunrise, a chance to renew,
To embrace His love, steadfast and true.

In the rhythm of Ramadan, I find my song,
Guided by faith, where I belong.
With gratitude's wings, I soar above,
Inspired by His mercy, boundless in love.

Allāh has taken it upon himself that mercy shall be shown towards the creation.

First of all, by using the word 'Rabb' (رب), the assertion in the verse has been provided with the proof - that Allāh تعالى is your Nurturer, Nourisher and Sustainer.

It's obvious that no nurturer would let what is being nurtured go to waste. Then, the mercy which has been promised by that Rabb has been further clarified through a weighty, yet endearing, statement that Allāh has 'decreed this mercy on Himself.'

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, 'When Allāh created the creation, Allāh wrote in a book which is with Allāh above His Throne: 'My mercy overpowers My anger.'

Ḥaḍrat Salmān رضى الله عنه says: We have seen written in the Torah, when Allāh created the heavens and the earth and the entire creation in them, He divided His mercy in 100 parts. One part, Allāh distributed all over the creation - and wherever any effect of this mercy is found amongst human beings, animals and other creation, that owes itself to this same part. The rest of the 99 parts of Mercy have been kept by Allāh for Himself.
It goes without saying that no ʿIbādah (worship) or ʿIṭāʿah (obedience) can be good enough to be considered as presentable before Allāh. If we were to look at them from the highest of the high, we would realise that we have not been able to do other than what is simply bad. Still, one has to be thankful for being able to do what was possible, especially when no human is free of sin - unless protected by Allāh.

Under this situation, justice would have been demanded that no one remains safe from a general punishment. But, what is actually happening is that every human being is being showered with the blessings of Allāh, all the time.

This is the direct outcome of that mercy which the Rabb of the universe has put down in writing as His responsibility.

[Ma'āriful Qur'ān, Volume 3, Page 355-356]

Allah is capable of granting even the most grandiose and seemingly impossible requests. Rather than limiting their prayers due to fear or doubt, believers should pray with optimism and boldness, knowing that Allah is capable of fulfilling their deepest desires and aspirations. Allah is beyond human comprehension, and His attributes are infinite. He is not bound by the constraints of time, space, or human limitations.

Therefore, when making dua, believers are addressing the One who has no limits or boundaries.

Photos from BirminghamArabic's post 14/03/2024

In the shadow of faith's gentle glow,
Lies a virtue that all hearts know.
Humility, a cloak of grace,
Guides us to a noble place.

In the whispers of the Quran's verse,
Resides the call to do what's first.
To lift the burdens of those in need,
Planting seeds of kindness indeed.

In every step, a chance to lend,
A hand to guide, a heart to mend.
For in the service of our fellow,
We find the path where blessings flow.

With each act of selfless giving,
We find the essence of truly living.
For in the light of Allah's love,
We soar on wings like a gentle dove.

So let us walk with heads bowed low,
And hearts open, ready to bestow.
For in humility's embrace,
We find the beauty of Allah's grace.

Assalam-u-alaykum, everyone, Ramadhan Kareem.

Alhamdulillah in yesterdays session, We continued our Arabic learning journey by talking about about family and family members, father, mother, brother sister etc. The list of immediate and extended family nouns increased our vocabulary by another 20 words, with an additional 10 related words that we used to define what each member does. Imagine, with every word learned, how much easier it will be to have good conversations in Arabic.

We covered demonstrative pronouns and how to use them when taking about people. Using conjugation we understand how to apply suffixes to show possession e.g my mother, my uncle, your brother, his name, her name etc.

Covering real life scenarios really helped us to learn and practice this with each other. Was it challenging, yes, but nothing worth achieving comes easily and its far easier to learn new things when we are all moving together, as each one helps each other. Often its very easy when learning and listening to miss a mistake, but because we are learning together, this really helps in that if one person fails to catch an error then another will most probably catch it and then help the fellow learner by higlighting the correction.

We concluded our session by reading Arabic texts as they appear in daily life—without vowel signs, stepping closer to the natural flow of the language that adorns signs, books, and newspapers. This leap, although it seemed daunting, highlighted the incredible progress made by each one of you—Marcelina, Amreen, Asif, and Khalid. Your dedication and unwavering commitment to growth and understanding are truly inspirational.

Our journey together is a beacon of hope, proving that with dedication, community, and a shared goal, anything is achievable. Again a big thanks to our mentors, Abeer, Assma, Mohammed Asiri, Javier, Nicolas and all those who are fluent in the Arabic language, your input is priceless as it helps us understand that whilst text book Arabic is key to building a strong foundation, in real life there are slight changes.

Insha Allah we will continue to learn every Sunday from my office, so if you wish to attend and start learning or even helping those that are learning, please RSVP on Meetup.

Ramadhan Mubarak

Alhamdulillah we have been blessed again with another opprtunity to benefit from this beautiful month of Ramadhan.

May our عِبَادَة (Ibadaah - Prayers), تَوْبَة (Tawbah - Repentence) and دُعَاء (Duas and Supplication) be accepted, and find favor in His sight, guiding us towards greater compassion and service to others, both within our community and beyond. May all the good things we do in this month and after be a means for greater reward in this world and the Aakhirat.

I pray Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala’s abundant blessings be with you and your family in this special and beautiful month.

In the sacred month of Ramadan, our hearts aglow,
A time of reflection, where blessings flow.
Each dawn, a whisper of mercy, a chance to renew,
In the depths of devotion, our souls find their true view.

With every sunrise, a chance to start,
To cleanse the soul, to heal the heart.
In prayer and reflection, we find our way,
Seeking Allah's mercy day by day.

Through hunger's pang and thirst's embrace,
We glimpse the trials of another's race.
In empathy, we share our bread,
For in giving, our spirits are fed.

Through hunger's embrace and thirst's longing plea,
We taste the essence of empathy, pure and free.
For in the fast's hardship, we unite in plight,
Sharing in the struggle, in day and night.

In the silence of night, when stars softly gleam,
We seek forgiveness, in humble esteem.
With tears as our witness, we lay bare our souls,
Seeking redemption, as the month unfolds.

Oh Ramadan, with your crescent moon above,
You teach us compassion, you fill us with love.
May our deeds in this month, be pure and sincere,
As we strive for closeness to the Divine, drawing near.

In your embrace, we find solace and grace,
Transforming our hearts, in this sacred space.
May your lessons endure, long after you've gone,
A beacon of hope, until the next dawn.

In the journey of life and learning, we inevitably stumble, utter words, and commit actions that may inflict pain upon others. If, by my words or deeds, I have caused you hurt, whether knowingly or unknowingly, I humbly ask for your forgiveness. May you find it in the depth of your heart to pardon my shortcomings, as I seek solace in the hope of reconciliation and healing.

I might not say it as often as i should, but I am very lucky and grateful to have you in our lives.

Jazak Allah to everyone who could attend yesterday, we delved deeper into our conversations, exploring dialogues by covering Singular, Dual and Plural nouns(regarding nationalities) for first person, second person, and third person perspectives.

We also touched on Short vowels, Long vowels and Diphthongs and why they are used

مساء الخير للجميع

Jazak Allah to everyone who came today, it was lovely to see Janice again. Alhamdulillah, today's meetup was yet another beautiful testament to the effort and dedication we pour into our Arabic journey week after week. Progress isn't always measured in huge leaps, but in the consistent effort and determination to practice what we're learning—and today, we certainly embodied that spirit.

With each passing week, we're not just learning; we're growing, evolving, and expanding our horizons in remarkable ways. Today, as we delved into our conversations, exploring dialogues that challenged us to embody the first person, second person, and third person perspectives, we witnessed firsthand the fruits of our labor.

It's incredible to see how far we've come—from grasping basic vocabulary to engaging in meaningful exchanges with confidence and fluency. And let's not forget the addition of new words into our repertoire. Each word learned is a small victory, a step closer to deeper understanding and richer expression.

As we reflect on today's session, let's celebrate the progress we've made together. Every effort made to practice what we've learned is a triumph in itself. Let's cherish these moments of growth and let them fuel our determination to keep pushing forward.

Let's carry this spirit of dedication into the coming weeks, embracing each opportunity to learn, to practice, and to support one another. Our journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of shared growth.

May Allah bless our efforts and guide us on this beautiful path of learning. I look forward to our next gathering with eager anticipation.
