French doors? Oui, Monsieur / Madame!

We completed this transformation of this front reception room in Bearwood earlier this week.

The doors that had been installed previously would stick horrendously and you'd literally have to wrestle them open. Additionally, the internal sides had been packed out as the doors were about 10cm narrower than the opening.

We removed the old door lining, replaced it with new and hung these oak veneered glazed doors and finished it off with some fresh new architrave. Now the customer has a great looking set of doors that glide open and close with ease.

A herringbone-style laminate flooring job completed last week at a property for a first-time buyer in Dudley. Now that the floor is installed they can start moving their furniture in and enjoy the comfort of their own space.

I'm currently working on a property that's being fully refurbished and as part of the schedule of work I've been contracted to carry out, I was asked to repalce the newel post and rebuild the balusters for this staircase.

After speaking with the owner about what they wanted, they settled on a modern look that they'd seen on Pinterest and Instagram.

As I'm still working on other jobs at the property I was lucky enough to see it once the decorator had put a lick of paint on it all.

A recently completed custom build wardrobe.

I was contacted by this customer and asked to rebuild the internals of this wardrobe so they could maximise the available storage space as part of a house renovation before moving in.

After discussing storage options, we settled on a suitable design to store his and hers clothing on rails and shelves along with a stack of handleless, soft-closing drawers. All of these internals were made by hand to custom measurements.

The existing sliding doors were old and damaged but these were able to be repaired and reused by installing fresh pulley wheels and giving the guide rail track a good clean up so everything was working like new.

Design and install of a IKEA PAX wardrobe that I completed.

Originally the customer wanted custom built wardrobes to be installed in their kids bedroom while they were having renovation work done but after visiting them to discuss what they needed and taking some measurements, I suggested to them that they could use the IKEA PAX system and advised them of a configuration that would suit their storage needs.

The wardrobes are quick to install, come in a variety of options and are a lot lighter on the wallet. And because it's IKEA PAX, all of the internals are fully customisable, can be removed, altered or replaced as the kids grow and their storage need change.

Another job completed yesterday. This time to do a small spot of wall panelling on the side of a flight of stairs.

The customer was really unhappy with how the sides of the stairs looked originally because you could see where the stairs met the side of the wall and it wasn't a flush finished. They wanted to add something decorative to hide the imperfections and improve the overall asthetic.

After covering the sides of the stairs to smooth out the surface, I installed some custom panelling. All that is left now is for the customer to paint the stairs in a colour of their choosing.

Today I (pretty much) completed on a kitchen refit for a customer AKA my mom (because when your son is a carpenter it's a given that you get to be able to use their skills at will!)

As I was doing the kitchen between other work, she had to put up with things taking longer than they normally would but they say that good things come to those who wait.

There were a number of issues with the existing kitchen that made this project interesting:
- doors and drawers colliding with each other due to incorrect unit spacing
- units set at incorrect height
- worktop depth too short to accommodate appliances
- not enough sockets on walls resulting in trailing extension leads to provide additional sources of power

In short, the kitchen just needed pulling out and doing again from scratch.

Despite not everything going as planned and a few changes part way through the project, the new kitchen looks significantly better than it did and all of the issues have been remedied. All that's left for her to put some colour on the walls.

Job (99.9%) done. Mother happy! 👍🏾

I'm looking forward to my first Sunday dinner in the new kitchen (hint, hint).

With the summer holidays over, I spent the last few days installing these custom alcove units and floating shelves that I created for a client.

When they first contacted me, they asked if I could build a set of units suitable to house a TV, that could be used as a log store and also provide some additional storage. We finished this off with a set of floating shelves with movable shelf dividers so that they can organise the shelves as they see fit.

New doors can really transform a house. I spent the last couple of days installing some cottage style internal doors at a property over in Redditch. Furnished with the customers choice of curved T-bar door handles in Satin Chrome finish.

All items supplied and fully fitted.

Another project completed for a client earlier this week. This time around it was a media wall build complete with fireplace.

The client didnt want to have to the wait for any plaster skim to dry so after building the frame for this, we dressed the faces of the wall with MDF instead of plasterboard which meant that they could get to decorating the room straight away.

Yesterday I spent the day creating a mobile bar for a customer.

The customer had some very specific requirements in that it needed to be able to fit into a specific sized space at their the unit, to be built in a way that it can be taken apart, transported to a festival in a small van and reassembled easily and also be easy to manoeuvre when set up.

The whole unit can be taken apart into five panels (front, two side returns and serving surface and interior shelf) and is all held together by a series of bolts and wing nuts meaning that it can be set up and taken apart without the need for any tools. Build time is around 3-4mins. It also sits on castor wheels with brakes so it can be moved around and kept in position.

It was great trying to figuring out how tackle this challenge and it was even better watching it come to life as I was building it. All that's left now is for the customer to add their own colour choice of paint and branding.

Another round of skirting completed over in Bearwood on this fine day.

This customer had a vestibule area that they wanted skirting but could never find the time to get round to doing it themselves so I was happy to help complete the task for them. I also trimmed down an internal door that was catching on their bedroom carpet as well.

We all have that list of small jobs around the house that need finishing off but can never find the time. Drop me a message to see if I can help you with yours.

Today we installed a worktop for a customer to help them make better use of the void underneath their staircase.

We set the height of the surface at 90cm from the floor using a laser level and installed couple of heavy duty chrome finished worktop legs to match the white and grey flecked worktop. All wall edges were siliconed for a nice tidy finish.

Now that the worktop is in, the customer has a space to put their tumble dryer and can make use of the additional space on top.

A few weeks ago, a customer got in touch to enquire above having a matching pair of alcove units built in the front room of their house.

They wanted their units to include storage shelves in the upper section and a double unit to the bottom which incorporated space for a computer monitor and a pull out desk so that they would work from home comfortably rather than sitting at a makeshift workstation.

The customer also wanted the finish of the units left bare so they could paint them a colour of their choosing once they'd decided on how they were going to decorate the front room.

After commissioning me for the work, I delivered exactly what the customer had asked for.

Last job to ease my way into the Bank Holiday weekend was to fit this skirting in a kitchen for a customer that had just had their flooring changed.

Boards were to match the what had already been installed the house to keep the look consistent throughout. All joints mitred and scribed accordingly and top edges caulked for a super tidy finish.

Enjoy the long weekend everyone. I'll be back on the tools on Tuesday!

A personal project this time around. Our old IKEA TV stand had seen it's time in the sun so my other half requested that I replace it with a custom-built alcove unit. I was only too happy to oblige!

Happy partner, no dramas!

Now it's all built and installed, it thought it was time for me to relax but, of course I was wrong! It's time to redecorate THE ENTIRE LIVING ROOM! 🤦

A small door repair and handle installation today.

This customer had unfortunately been the victim of a rogue trader doing a shoddy job of repairing a damaged door lining and abandoning the work leaving the client high and dry.

The bad workmanship was corrected by splicing in a new piece of timber to repair the door lining, installing a new door latch and handle. All ready for the customer to apply a fresh lick of paint.

Not all superheroes wear capes!

Another kitchen rejig for a customer that wanted to move their fridge from their living room and into the kitchen.

Wall units were removed and shifted along the wall to make the necessary space. The back of one of the units needed to be modified to accommodate water pipes that ran down the wall in the corner of the room.

The worktop was also removed, cut down to size, reinstalled and siliconed long the wall edges to stop any water ingress.

What a lovely day to be working outdoors!

Today' we've been repairing this tired shed which was being used as a rabbit hutch. We overboarded the base with 18mm chipboard and covered it with wood effect lino to give it a fresh looking floor.

While we were at it, we reattached the broken skirts on the bottom of the door and adjusted the door so it could lock properly

Customer wanted their kitchen adapting to fit an American-style fridge freezer.

Units removed, cornice and plinth were shortened and exposed unit end was dressed with a custom cut end panel from a disused unit to keep everything looking nice and tidy.
