It’s Her Majesty The Queen’s birthday today! 👑🎈 Did you know: It is a royal tradition to have two birthdays? The tradition began with King George II, who was born in November. He wanted to celebrate his birthday during the warmer and brighter months so that outdoor celebrations would be more enjoyable. With this in mind, he chose to combine his second birthday with the annual military parade in June. To this day, the Queen's second birthday, or ‘official birthday’, is celebrated on the same day as the parade- the second Saturday in June. Planting Trees at Highgate Park as part of the Birmingham Trees for Life initiative and planting a tree for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The event was attended by local schoolchildren who were planting the trees and Deputy Lieutenant Dame Christine Braddock was on hand to help. This is one of series of tree plantings taking place in Birmingham over the next 3 months.
