Join us as we delve into the music, film and games we’ve been checking out followed by the movies of my mind and the strange news of the week.

The featured musician this week is Richard Blenkinsop and the excellent song is “Way of the world”
Be sure to add it to your playlist on Spotify!

LOCAL PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
SUMMATION.
We spoke with Derren about his project, here’s what he had to say:
Summation originally was a way for me to use my gig photography in a much more abstract way.
The Summation pieces literally are every single photograph taken at an event, shown together in one complete abstract piece. A bit like a data dump of information.
The project has since developed into my interest in abstract experiment music. So whereas the photography is densely packed visual imagery, my music explores similar themes and ideas. Recently, I've been using/developing a visual language that supports my music, and I'm now trying utilise Instagram to feed back to my Bandcamp page, and vice versa. I have also collaborated with electronic music producers such as naut.
I'm working on an Etsy shop to that will sell prints of my work. Likewise I'll use the merchandise feature of Bandcamp to do the same. So everything feeds back on itself.
Check out Derren’s work on his page and swipe for more!
Are you part of an artistic project? We want to hear from you!

LOCAL ARTIST SPOTLIGHT -
LOSER PUPPY

We had the pleasure of playing Loser Puppy on our latest podcast, their song “just wait” is an absolute cracker so make sure you check them out on Spotify, here’s a bit about the band:

Loser Puppy is a project founded by ‘That Sam Guy’ based in Lancashire that are currently the only true audible embodiment of the manifesto on ‘How To Be Almost Straight’.

Loser Puppy use a high energy performance of hyper-ridiculous lensing to provide an incubator for all philosophies sought to be attained through the Manifesto.

Whilst Loser Puppy acknowledge that their performances may embody many of the elements and characteristics of a music gig and that anybody is welcome to attend their performances and enjoy themselves as they please. Loser Puppy emphasise the true intention of the evening is to conjure an as accurate as humanly possible performance of the Manifesto.

Whilst Loser Puppy repeatedly stress that the point of their performances is whole heartedly to represent that Manifesto. Loser Puppy acknowledges that they have no money, so areavaailable to bookings for:

- Birthdays
- Baptism’s
- Functions
- Bar Mitzvah’s
- Weddings
- Brit milah’s
- Quinceanera’s
- Sweet 16’s
- Political Rally’s
- Bum Fights
- Orgy’s

Unfortunately Loser Puppy must state that due to past bad experiences they regrettably no longer play Anniversary’s.

We are certainly looking forward to filming these guys in the live room when we can safely do so.

Let us know what you thought of the tune in the comments, link to the podcast in our bio!

CORY FOSTER
Fluoxetine 20MG *SONG REVIEW*
By Aftab Latif of Rat Tribe.
Admittedly I don't actively listen to any music without a beat. With my smooth-brained approach to music, if it doesn't have a pulse it doesn't get my time (no aural necrophilia here!). But as with everything there is a time and a place for everything. Fluoxetine 20MG is the song you put on when you've just broken up with your partner, when you scroll through your Facebook feed and gape at all the people you knew in high school posting photos of happy marriages, backpacking holidays and gurgling rugrats whilst you still feel like that hapless school kid who doesn't really know what he wants to make of his life. Sure it's a sad song, but there's a certain sense of catharsis that comes with knowing you're not alone in the world, that there are more people out there who feel just as crap as you do. It's a song you can put on when times get better and you remember how far you've come and how much you've grown. Times are tough for all of us right now, and whilst Cory may spread a little of the gloom he's harbouring in his soul, it helps us all remember that a problem shared is a problem halved.
Musically the song is very stripped back and raw. It's a bloke and his guitar. This adds to the haunting feeling of isolation and pain all packaged in a melody that is simple yet remarkably moving. The song holds up a mirror to some feelings we might not even know we have within us, but I certainly think it's one worth exploring.
Check out corys music in the link below.

Our new merch store is now live!

Over the coming weeks our designer David Caffrey will be designing new shirts, stickers, mugs, hoodies, you name it!

Here’s a little something about what to expect:

*The Rat Tribe movement presents a challenge to traditions of fine art by including a warped view of imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane mass-produced objects. One of its aims is to use images of popular (as opposed to elitist) culture in art, emphasising the banal or kitschy elements of any culture, most often through the use of irony.*

We more than appreciate your support and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

You can find a link to the store in the comments and in our bio.

Happy shopping!

EPISODE 4: The Bedroom Chronicles

Here’s a picture of me a couple weeks into lockdown, the ageing process has rapidly increased.

We’re back in lockdown so we took to Skype to have a little chat!

Episode 3 in the comments “Back to the bedroom”

Ooeerr missus! So lockdown is upon us again tier 4 has been rolled out and we’ve retreated to our bedrooms, join us in our thoughts and in the media we’ve been consuming. We’ve been reduced to Neanderthal technology again which is upsetting as we were close to getting it right but that’ll be for another day and another time. Stick with us!

We’re taking a couple of weeks off to gather new ideas for the podcast and for YouTube in general.

We’re hoping to create a subversive, comedy variety show that sheds light on underground art and casts shade on the wacky world above.

Expect guests, comedy skits, live performances amongst a whole array of other ideas bashing around our brains.

In the meantime here’s a naughty pig. 🐽

RAT TRIBE PODCAST EPISODE 2

Jonny Lindsey is an Accrington based artist and poet. He is best known for his art under the name accy_bob_ross. He started painting in lockdown and gained a bit of a following for screaming at kids as they walk past his house & for his abstract style. He is also a poet who has had some poems released in various anthology books as well as printed and posted around Manchester. Although he has been mistaken for a shaved yeti, he ensures you he is just a malnourished walking manatee.

22/12/2020

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the latest installement of the Rat Tribe Podcast tomorrow at 6pm, featuring the North's self-proclaimed diglet Jonny Lindsey.
To hold you off until then, let your ale-guzzlin', pie-munchin' spirit be serenaded by the poetry of this proud boy*

(*Proud of the north, that is, we're not saying he's one of them gammon Trump lads.)

It was a pleasure to chat with Jonny Lindsey / accy_bob_ross on Sunday.
The podcast will be available Wednesday as well as a lovely interview from Granny Devito.
Jonny is an artist, poet and actor and you can find his work in the tags above.
We commissioned Jonny for a painting which we’ve now hung on our wall of local artists and we’re looking forward to meeting more artists and getting more artwork up there.
We’re finally getting everything sounding and looking how we want but we have some teething issues so bare with us.
We have some massive plans on the horizon but next week we will be having a Christmas break so keep tuned in for updates!
