The Carnesky Room, designed by Marisa Carnesky, is a favourite among couples for birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, or just because. Adorned with showgirl-inspired ephemera, costumes, and artefacts, some from Carnesky’s archive, the Carnesky Room brings to life the untold stories of women performers who graced Blackpool’s stages from the 1950s to today.
“Unless we dream, we doubt” — the name of Louise Ahl’s contemporary installation. ☁️ Although it may initially seem minimalist to the eye, it is a real treat for the senses. With multiple speakers built into the room and bed, this soundscape creates a hypnotic installation that focuses on choreographed sound and stories, moving the guest in and out of meditative states—a dreamy setup paired with a king-sized bed.
Created by Manchester-based artist Jez Dolan, The Purple Room focuses on identity and Blackpool's significance as a welcoming home and destination for LGBTQIA+ people. It features specially commissioned Blackpool' Toile de Jouy' wallpaper and fabrics, referencing classical figures from a painting by John Faed from 1850 called "The Cruel Sister," and an exclusive view of the iconic Funny Girls tower from the room's window. ‘The Comfortable Room’ has been created with care by the artists Jenny Gaskell and Lisa Mattocks as a ‘place of wonder, a place to dream.’ It is particularly aimed at those who need a rest – rest from work fatigue, life fatigue or chronic pain. The specially curated objects around the room and the full wall projection film are aimed at giving you as comfortable and pleasing a stay as possible. It is an accessible room with an en-suite wet room with cool grey porcelain tiles and top of the range rails and support bars.
