The Boathouse Youth

Enabling young people to lead their best lives.

Just before the Summer Holidays a small focus group of young people met to formulate ideas relating to the soon-to-be extended upstairs space at our Grange Park Youth Centre.

The group are keen for the space to be used primarily to meet the needs of young people Age 16+ as the rest of the building will be available for the use of younger children and young people.

The group explored three core needs: Learning, Socialising and Fitness. They create three areas which would enable them to meet these needs.

They have since worked with adult colleagues and consulted with their wider peer-group to create computer images reflecting how they would like the space to be. 🤩

Further news - hot off the press this week - is that our application to The Morrisons Foundation has been successful to contribute towards the kit-out of this new space. 🔥🚀

This facility will open on the estate February 2025 and will be free of charge to access enabling young people Age 16+ to have a safe and attractive space to support with their studies, socialise and maintain good physical and mental health. 💥

Apologies in advance if your child comes home a little muddy today… it’s Crocky Trail Day 🤪

Our Summer Holiday Clubs at Layton Primary School came to an end today and what a blast we had - with over 900 engagements across the three weeks, the fun we had was endless! 🤩

From making s'mores, climbing walls and our BHY Party to end the club, it's been an absolute pleasure to have you all! ❤💙

The fun might be over for now, but don't worry! We'll be back at Layton in October, so keep an eye out for our bookings to go live! 👀

📸 Some action shots from the first week of our Summer Camp.

46 Young People from our Pathway group and Senior Plus cohort spent the week with us at Bibbys Farm Scout Activity Centre in Chorley having the best time 🤩

Throughout the week, we enjoyed a wide range of activities, including fencing, canoeing and we event up the high ropes 🤺

We also held various employment workshops to further help the development of our young people and enable them to lead their best life ❤💙

🎉🌟 Celebrating Our Young Leaders! 🌟🎉

We are incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on our amazing Young Leaders at The Boathouse Youth! These inspiring 14-16 year olds started their journey as members and have grown into dedicated leaders, now assisting in our sessions after achieving their Level 2 in Youth Work. The best bit is they are just at the beginning of their learning journey in leadership… 👏

And the excitement doesn't stop there! This September, 10 of our 16-year-old Young Leaders will be stepping up to become 'Young Professionals' as they join our Level 3 Youth Support Worker Apprenticeship Programme. 🚀

You can easily spot our Young Leaders in their light blue shirts or hoodies, bringing energy and passion to every session. 🎽

Join us in celebrating their achievements and cheering them on as they continue to make a positive impact. Here's to the leaders of today and the changemakers of tomorrow!

Week one of HAF ✅!

What a fantastic week we’ve had at our Holiday Activity and Food clubs this week! With more than 75 young people in attendance at each site per day we’ve seen confidence develop, social interactions sky rocket, new skills develop and even had time for handstands, inflatable assault courses, making our own chocolate bars and everything in between! We can’t wait for week two to kick off on Monday!

Not signed up? Don’t worry, you can register on the day at the door!

When Blackpool met Salford! 🤝🏾

As part of a wider project with our 16-year-old members we are exploring other youth provisions across the north of England to determine how we can retain our relevance to young people over the next 3-5 years.

Today we visited Salford Lads' Club to learn about the history of Youth Work and see one of the oldest and most unique youth clubs in the UK.

This visit came as part of our Summer Camp and we were thrilled to learn that SLC have done an annual summer camp every year for the last 115 years (we are just a century behind them!). It was amazing to see how similar the two set ups look 100 years apart!

💙❤️

Another post dedicated to sunshine and lollipops! We might of cleared out when we purchased 130 rocket ice lollies from their store but look at these smiley faces!

This summer, we have taken our Holiday Club offer to the next level and introduced a new Lunch Time Activity - 'The Lunchbox'.

Every day, young people have the opportunity to make their own lunch at our Lunchbox Stations. They are enabled to butter their own bread, choose their own fillings, then cut their sandwich into which ever shapes they decide before heading over to our conveyor of snacks, fruit and drinks!

This interactive lunchtime activity not only teach healthy eating, but also encourages creativity and independence, and of course cements in a key life skill❤️💙!

We are really looking forward to watching our young people become professional sandwich artists by the end of the summer!

Yesterday, a group of our Infants from Bloomfield Youth Centre took part in a session around Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). ❤💙

We identified the different types of ASB that we may find at the park - litter, graffiti, youths trespassing, deformation of a public area & also noise. ♻️

On the walk, our groups did a checklist and kept a tally of how many of that certain type of ‘ASB’ we could see. ✅

After the young people completed their task they enjoyed a well deserve play on the park! 🤩

Last Night, we hosted the JJ Effect, where we enabled more than 130 people to think more clearly about the decisions they make when thinking of engaging in activities involving a weapon, a knife, a blade, even a golf club.

As attendees engaged in a hard hitting presentation featuring real life events about knife crime and the impact it can have on not just the victim, but the victim's family, friends, the persecutor's families - everyone.

It was a unique and unforgettable lesson, delivered mesmerisingly. Words will never explain the impact of The JJ Effect, but Byron’s dedication to minimise knife crime and save our future generation, has not gone unnoticed, thank you Byron!

If we start soon enough, maybe we can deter young people away from choosing this route and show them another way. ❤💙

👥 EmpowHER at 🤩

During the last few months our EmpowHER team have been working closely with a group of young women from Montgomery Academy. We’ve explored all the issues affecting young women, had lots of girls chat but most importantly been able to provide a space for these young women to voice their opinions, gain confidence, build new friendships and feel empowered.

Due to the imminent launch of our Bispham Youth Centre the girls were given exclusive access to our new facility in Bispham.

Here are some of the comments from them ⤵️

'OMG! Is this going to be all ours? Can we have this area as the chill out zone with fairy lights and bean bags? 😎

'I can't wait to be doing some cooking in this kitchen - I will keep it tidy all the time' 👩🏼‍🍳

'Do we have a Games Console? What about Just Dance & Fifa?' 🎮

The excitement was real. 🤩

👀 Keep your eyes peeled at 5pm today for further information on our opening taking place this Monday.
