Victorian Floor tiles are often associated with grandeur, restoration and luxury but the great thing about these tiles is that they work on both a large and small scale. Tom Harvey Original Style’s 3D designer gets asked lots of questions about Victorian Floor Tiles, especially from customers who want to add a touch of luxury to a small space in their home like porches, here are a few of his tips and ideas.
Let it glow… tips for using metallic tiles Gold, copper and silver have long been the epitome of luxury. Conjuring images of opulent and glittering precious jewels, these tones certainly grab attention. Used sparingly, metallic accents serve as a highlight for a particular area or feature, with their shimmering nature automatically drawing the eye. You could create a feature wall or panel with our Roman Gold tiles to create a sense of luxury. If you’re feeling bold, go all out! Used in swathes, wall-to-wall metallic tiles will create a dramatic effect with the added benefit of bouncing light around the space.
Brick Inspiration The humble brick tile is a design classic. Also known as a subway tile, it first found popularity after it was used throughout the subways of New York in the early 1900s. It quickly became sought after, a popular choice in pre-war homes thanks to its simple aesthetic, easy clean properties and that it was affordable. Tastes have evolved over the last 100 years, but the popularity of brick tiles remains, spurred on by the plethora of colours and finishes that have revitalised this classic style. Depending on the tile you choose, these tiles can look equally at home in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways in traditional and contemporary homes. Whilst is can be tempting to opt for a regular white brick, why not update the look with something a little more unexpected? A soft grey can be just as accommodating as pure white, but add a little extra polish. A deep navy blue or indigo will add a sense of drama – a glossy surface will ensure that they continue to reflect light. Have you considered the finish? A soft crackle glaze works well in vintage inspired spaces whilst a lustrous effect appears a little more glamorous. Metallic effects are also en vogue, with luxurious gold with an aged patina, proving to be a particularly stylish choice.
