Congratulations to former Kumon Student, Gitanjali Rao, for being named 's first-ever "Kid Of The Year!"
The 15-year-old scientist was selected from a pool of over 5,000 innovators for her tremendous impact on society.
When asked about her process to incite change during an interview with actress and activist Angelina Jolie, Rao responded,
“Observe, brainstorm, research, build and communicate.”
In the video linked below, the American teenager talks about how she started Kumon at 3 and half years old, and the struggle she had in her levels D to G worksheets (who doesn't).
She now applies her knowledge of maths in her research and inventions in the fields of science and technology.
She has invented a series of new technologies in a variety of fields. For example, she invented a device that can identify lead in drinking water, as well as an app and Chrome extension that uses of artificial intelligence to detect cyberbullying.
In the video, her brilliant mind and generous spirit shines, along with her inspiring message to other young people: don't try to solve every problem, just focus on the one that stimulates you. "If I can do that," she said, "anyone can do!"

My name is Helen Clarke and I’m the instructor at the New Milton, Lymington and Bournemouth Kumon Centre.
This picture was taken at Wimbledon last year. just look at all those people in one place. How things have changed.
Yesterday it was announced that schools will not make a full return until September ‘at the earliest’. Inevitably, not all schools will be able to open fully then either.
I speak to prospective Kumon parents everyday at the moment who express concerns and anxieties about their children falling behind with their studies. Many also worry about the effects on their children’s mental health of not having the regular contact from their friends and teachers from school.
I can help. I can help with maths and with English learning and development. I can help to build confidence and enjoyment in learning amongst other important study skills. I can tailor a programme for every child specific to their needs and I can promise I will see them on our online classes up to four times a week to support, give encouragement and keep them from falling behind.
I have been running the Kumon centres for 25 years. My team and I are very experienced and can offer expertise up to university level maths and A Level English.
This is a pivotal time for children in year 6, 9 and 10 especially and I’d love to hear from you if you think we can help. We offer a free 1:1 assessment initially, conducted online.
The Kumon programmes are suitable for children from the ages of 2-18. Children study for a short amount of time everyday and join classes each week.
