We are just shy of two weeks before two of our coaching team take on the Goggins challenge of running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours.
Our aim is to raise £2000 to instal an AED (automated external defibrillator) outside the gym for public access - this is a life saving piece of equipment and increases the chances of survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

What does women’s kickboxing mean to us?
💫A space for women to connect and be present in their bodies
💫To step into a space and undo old stories and beliefs

It’s not just about the actual techniques, it’s about the feelings and changes that come alongside the training.
We are just over 3 weeks out from our fundraising event happening at the Academy.
2 of our coaches will be running 4 miles, every 4 hours for 48 hours to raise money for an AED to be installled externally for full public use.
This is such an important piece of kit, so we really would love to see as many people as possible getting involved!

Meet Alex s he joined us about 18 months ago - went from 0 to getting her first belt in Kickboxing. She believed she wasn't capable, but took the plunge and now she is flying!
Remember, everyone starts as a beginner.
Even black belts. They all started at the beginning.

Don’t make this mistake ‼️
When being grabbed and pulled by something like a wrist grab, our instinct can be to pull back and resist…❌don’t -
you are going strength on strength and the stronger person will win. You don’t want to end up on the ground, as that is a very difficult space when it comes to self defence and the fight is very different ❌
✅Instead, we advise go with the attack making strong strikes as you go so create pain and get the attacker to let go ✅

What can I do if someone attacks me?
There are lots of answers and it will depend on what situation you are facing.
Reality is, if someone doesn’t have a long range weapon, then the only way they can physically hurt you is by being close, so where possible we will always advise you to keep distance to help you keep safe ‼️
Whether this is by running🏃♀️
Or
By using our long range striking suck as kicks 🦵
This will give you a fighting chance of staying safe in a dangerous scenario

I honestly never believed I could do it..
These are the words we hear so often from women looking to start their self defence and martial arts journey…
Yet once they step over through the door, they connect in to a power that they never new they had 💪
They find a spark that ignites 🔥
And their confidence and belief goes through the roof..
✅Confidence to set new firmer boundaries is born
✅Belief that they are capable of anything they set their mind to
✅ Empowered to stand up for themselves
This is what we do and we frickin love it
A great strike for self defence is the elbow strike🥊👌
This strike is super useful if you are in close to the person attacking you.. it can be a great tool to have on your toolkit to create damage to allow you to escape which is ultimately our goal when it comes to self defence ✅

Do I need to be polite when dealing with unwanted attention?
No - Be firm and direct - we aren't giving them an option to stop. It's not a choice. It's a command.
Now in order to keep the situation from escalating we can chose our language to be non provocative , but we want to keep it to the point and direct.
We aren't asking them so they can decide if they want to do it or not. We are telling them.
There are some many awesome benefits that kickboxing can bring to women....honestly it's AMAZING

I have told myself so many stories about what I wasn't capable of doing over my time.
How I am not like "those people"
How I don't know enough
How I am not smart enough
All these crazy LIES I had drilled into my mind and told myself over and over that for a long time I actually believed it 🥺
Do you know StandStrong, my gym, started as words written on a bit of paper 4 years ago. That was it. A crazy idea I believed would never happen at the time, because who the f was I to even dream that big 😱
What did I know about running a business and who would want to come learn from me...
Fast forward 4 years and a Pandemic and those words "have my own gym in Bristol" is now a reality.
I don't say this to be big headed. Or to show you how great I am. I tell you this, because I believe that we hold ourselves back from a lot of big potentional due to self limiting beliefs we hold about ourselves.
Had I kept those beliefs of not being capable, then we would not being serving all our members and helping them to change their lives.
I would be sat wondering what could have been rather than experiencing what is.
I would not have stepped into my own power to deliver my visions and make the changes I want to see in this world.
Was it an easy journey? Heck No. Was it worth it? Hell Yes💞
I invite you to sit and ask yourself what beliefs am I holding that are stopping me from being the f awesome human I was put on earth to be ❤️
