Konnected CIC now has university clients - I will be holding training sessions with undergrad and masters students completing their Social Work qualifications over the coming months!

We're looking for people who are care experienced (either care leavers or young people currently supported by the local authority) to join our team of speakers - this will include sharing your experience and supporting me to facilitate training.

Any Social Workers on my list of connections or social care professionals, please get in touch if you think you work with anyone who might be interested.

Good afternoon all and Happy New Year! :)

We've acquired a few more followers in the past couple of weeks and so we thought we would welcome them and also drop a little information on what we do at Konnected and where we're heading.

Konnected has been changing and developing since its inception in 2020. Starting off as a service that provided cultural education in the form of activity packs and virtual sessions to Looked After Children of African and Caribbean heritage, we now offer training for foster carers, Children's Social Care Professionals and students starting out in their carer in social work.

In the coming months, we plan to attend a number of universities to speak with their students regarding cultural awareness in Children's Social Care and it's important role in building relationships and better understanding the young people and families that they may go on to work with during their carer.

At Konnected, we offer a variety of services for the children directly but also for the carers and professionals that work with and support the children. The aim is to improve knowledge and awareness, and therefore the approach to working with looked after children of African or Caribbean heritage.

The content of our training includes discussions on the importance of promoting culture and heritage and how to do so, identity and belonging, misconceptions and the impact and much more..

We've been very quiet on the social media front whilst developing the different areas that make up our CIC and the services that we offer. We've changed our logo, mission and a few other bits..

As a CIC, our target audience are Afro-Caribbean and African children in foster care across England and Wales. The aim is to keep them in touch with their heritage and provide fun, interactive activities whilst doing so.

We've already provided activity packs to looked after children in both Bristol and Bath and North East Somerset.

Following some evaluation, we have decided to add an additional service to the CIC which is a mentorship programme. We realised that providing the children with the activity packs was not quite enough & that we would like to provide a more engaging service - allowing mentors to take children on day trips, be a go to person for a chat or some time out and a person who shares the child's ethnic identity.

We are going to begin recruiting voluntary mentors in July, primarily across London and Bristol initially. Watch this space if you're interested in becoming a mentor and want to make a difference!
