Ive scheduled a bout of gout for Boxing Day and some tears on New Years Eve about the fact I’ve achieved nothing this year.

We’re still here and we’re cracking on. The shop is fully stocked, we’ve got travel versions in every candle and all is well. We also have tester sets which are a fiver…. BOSH.

New candle scents will be slower as I’m still not 💯 on them but please hold the line.

We’re coming out of hibernation and here’s our most popular candle and the one that people keep coming back for. I can’t do it justice in here but there are some words on the website that explain it and how it was based on a weekend in Paris.

My sense of smell remains at about 70% since getting sick in May but I’ve got some rather wonderful people around me making magic things happen.

“I got this as a present from a very generous friend, and it’s genuinely become my favourite scent ever and it’s by far the best candle I’ve ever had. I wasn’t 100% sold on it at first sniff, but now I love it - it’s beautiful and really comforting.
It seems daft to say this about a candle, but when I have it lit the whole room feels luxurious but soothing.
It is pricey but it’s lasting very well. I’m going to try to stretch it out as long as possible, but even though it’s way beyond my normal budget I think I’m going to have to treat myself to another when it eventually runs out.
Knowing that Good Candles support such good causes definitely makes the splurge even more worthwhile! Thanks for giving me a little bit of heaven in a jar. x”

What a line up 🔥 Meanwhile at Good Candles HQ my sense of smell (post plague) (over a month ago) has yet to properly return. This has proved a bit annoying as we want to finish this bread candle but until my beak begins to work again all is on hold.

What does it smell like I hear you ask?

You’re on a city break. You’re on your own, in a cafe and sat on the terrace watching the world go by. Lots of concrete around, a double espresso so strong your heart is racing, one of those little biscuits that smells incredible. They bring a glass of sparkling water over and it has a slight taste of hard water reduced only by the slice of lemon in the glass. Your phone is dead. Perfect. On the wall there are shelves floor to ceiling full of books. It’s a perfect end to the day and it’s only 11am.

A candle to celebrate bath time with, the most luxurious moment. Uninterrupted, luxurious and indulgent.

For this we wanted to capture that smell of a fancy bath in a fancy hotel.

Water, bubbles, ozone, blackcurrant leaf, neroli and lavender.

An aquatic blend that conjures the idea of bubbles, relaxation, water and fresh air. It’s a complex scent that is unusual and contemporary whilst still giving the impression of deep relaxation and self care.

Big floral vibes from Fred’s Garden today.

This candle was named after my great grandad. He was such a fascinating chap and I have such happy memories of his garden when I was a kid. He was also the only other left handed person in the family so we bonded over our lack of ability to write a birthday card without smudging everything.

Our travel candles are perfect for those smaller rooms or your home office. They’ll bring the vibes and make you feel all fancy.

Also very good if you’re traveling and your company is making you stay in smelly hotels. I used to be sent to one frequently that smelt of fish. I’ll never forgive them for that.

Candles shouldn’t be boring. The packaging should be joyful too. Too many bland white boxes, moody old names and sad sack stories.

That’s why we worked with .johnsson on this beauty. My 6 year old daughter helped on art direction (sorry Melanie! 😂) and it’s still one of my favourites to see on the shelf of a store when I walk in ❤️
