This weekend's Dickens Festival is a popular annual event in #Broadstairs. Today (Saturday) is the turn of the parade with Queen Victoria in a horse drawn carriage following a procession of characters in Victorian attire walking from Pierremont Hall to the Bandstand/Victoria Gardens on the seafront. As Summer 2024 has gone AWOL so far this year, today's weather has been a combination of sunshine, showers, cloud and wind! Last year the parade was held during hot weather on one of the warmest days of the year. Today it rained right at the time of the parade, but it still went ahead regardless. No events were held at the seafront this year, with everything at Pierremont Hall, so the Queen and others duly went back after their trip to the seafront. #BroadstairsNews #broadstairsbeach Broadstairs Dickens Festival

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Broadstairs & St. Peter's Town Council have events taking place this evening at Broadstairs Bandstand and at Viking Bay. Currently the Thanet Concert Band are playing at the Bandstand until 9pm. Then follows the lighting of the Beacon at 9.15pm. Flood alert is in force for this afternoon's high tide on the northern Thanet coast. Thanet Parkway Station opened today at Cliffsend. It is very remote and quite lonely being up on the platform on my own!! You can't see a thing because you're surrounded by metal "walls" on the platform levels, but you can hear the A299 traffic roaring past. No ticket office. Nothing is here at all. Very quiet. But it is the first day. What do our readers think? Would you ever need to use this new parkway station?
