Getting it right about neurodiversity, neurodivergent conditions and neuroinclusion is So very important. Shared personal stories are valuable but to equip workplaces we need professionals who have a comprehensive understanding to help bring about positive change.

Accredited training - meaningful and useful (neurodiversity). Free training may look attractive but quality and usefulness should be the main consideration.

Workplace Dyslexia & Specific Learning Difficulties—Productivity, Engagement and Well-Being 30/07/2021

Thought we'd share this again.
There's still, so much work that needs to be done to help untap neurodivergent potential and ensure people feel 'safe to talk'.
It's interesting to see how the word neurodiversity has now become an accepted part of our vocabulary...yet it is a bit like 'Chinese Whispers' as messages about what it is - the benefits and the challenges etc are twisted and often inaccurate.
Five years ago when compiling this most organisations hadn't heard of the word neurodiversity...or if they had it was most likely thought to be purely associated with Autism (ASD/ASC).
Still so much work to be done within organisations. Diverse Minds

Workplace Dyslexia & Specific Learning Difficulties—Productivity, Engagement and Well-Being This study is the first of its kind in the area of workplace dyslexia/neuro-divergence (in that it is temporal & focuses on one employing organisation) and it aims to support other organisations to learn and improve their businesses and their employees experience of working within their organisation...

Great to chat with Dyslexia Champions in our online 'coffee morning' meet up today.
Sadly there was quite a lot of discussion aboutthe lack of proactive support for neurodivergent staff within organisations.
Questions raised about what training HR staff actually receive in relation to support provision, what the benefits can be ... and employer's legal obligations.

People shouldn’t be fearful of speaking out when they need support in the workplace and we need to remove the barriers to inclusion within work environments including physical and cultural as well promoting greater psychological safety. All employing organisations need to understand that whether to provide ‘reasonable adjustments’ or not – is not an option.

Workplace learning is so important...wherever you work.
Trade unions play an important role in supporting and guiding their members and employing organisations. Today I was delighted to receive this great feedback from trade union learning organizer Janet Johnson….
‘I support those working in government departments through promoting lifelong learning in the workplace and having completed my studies on the Neurodiversity Aware® training and accreditation programme with Janette Beetham and Professor Amanda Kirby, I recognised the need to make this information more widely available and raise awareness about neurodiversity. To facilitate this, Janette agreed to deliver a series of on-line sessions available to those across government. The level of interest in these sessions was so high that they were all fully subscribed in less than twenty-four hours of being advertised.
The feedback from the sessions has been extremely positive, ‘brilliant session’, ‘interesting and useful’ ‘…a real eye-opener’, ‘That was fabulous very interesting. I think this overview would be very useful to everyone in my workplace and should be delivered to all as an overview.’
