SportyBakes bars take you to the best places!
This blueberry and strawberry bar was part of Jackie Fowler’s fuelling strategy when she rode 1,000 miles from Birmingham to Mallorca in aid of Cure Leukaemia
Turns out that love might just be freshly baked sourdough topped with butter and jam so-fresh that it hasn’t set yet. Oh boy 😋
Inspired by my recent trip to Denmark and eating lots of Smørrebrød, I’ve made a Light Rye seeded sourdough loaf.
Rye flour has less gluten than wheat flour, so the dough was challenging to work with, but it’s baked well.
Patience required now to let it cool before slicing into it!
Now to go and rummage in the fridge to see which toppings I can rustle up 😋
It’s that time of year again! Beautiful soft fruit is in season and it’s time to start making all your favourite fillings to see us through the year.
Fans of our raspberry and white chocolate flapjack bars will be pleased to see enough raspberry filling to refill the supply cupboard.
Whether you’re a roadie, off on a gravel ride or hitting the MTB trails, we’ve got delicious bars for you!
The SportyBakes range includes the classic lemon drizzle - a layer flapjack with lemon zest and lemon curd inside and lemon juice icing on the top, and new bars like our cranberry and apricot - a mixed flapjack bar with dried cranberries and apricots throughout.
Some of our flavours don’t make it to the website - they’re snaffled up by local customers and monthly subscribers, so if you don’t see what you’d like, drop us a message.
Lots of bars off to exciting destinations ready for the weekend’s events.
and off to Wales to slay some dragons.
Robert Cole and pals are riding Mon Ventoux to Alpe d’Huez.
I’m not sure what everyone else is doing with their bars - subscription orders on their way out too, but there’s plenty of sunny cycling ahead.
Wherever your adventures take you this weekend, have fun, stay safe and don’t forget the suncream ☀️ 😎☀️😎☀️😎☀️😎☀️😎
A tasty bundle on its way to Bonny 🏴 today for the lovely
She’s always up to something adventurous, so no doubt these will be fuelling her to somewhere a long way away or a long way up 🤩.

Eincorn and stoneground flours blended with a happy bubbling sourdough starter, spelt, walnuts and sunflower seeds
Did you know that it’s Real Bread Week?
Inspired by cath’s post earlier in the week, it was time to try something new.
This is sourdough walnut cranberry and raisin loaf and it smells divine.
Getting ready to send these tasty bars out today. Ginger drizzle flapjack with stem and dried ginger for a flavour punch, raisins for extra oomph, taste and texture and an energy boosting ginger icing on the top.
First bake of the week…Bara Brith tea loaf. The kitchen smells divine, but this is for so I’d better not tuck in for elevensies 🙃
For your outdoor adventures, Bara Brith is best thinly sliced, buttered and made into ‘sandwiches’. Wrap them and pop in your pocket for a tasty, easy to eat on the go snack.
Beautifully packaged, inspiring delivery yesterday…sourdough bread today

Customers say that the shortbread is the best they’ve ever eaten and if you like mince pies but have never tried mincemeat flapjack, then you’re going to love it.
It’s very nearly December, which means it’s time for a Festive Bundle of delicious tasty treats.
These gingerbread trees, iced lemon bells, mincemeat flapjack squares and Scottish shortbread stars can be packed up and sent around the U.K. or collected from Blackwell.
Each bake is made with high quality natural ingredients…lemon juice and zest, homemade mincemeat and British butter.
Head to the SportyBakes website to order yours or drop us a message 😀.
Can’t beat a bit of weekend slow sourdough baking!
This loaf is cranberry and toasted pecan made for the lovely who wanted to buy one, but I persuaded him that I would make one instead.
I toasted the nuts, made the dough on Saturday evening, proved it overnight, shaped it this morning and let it have a final rise while I rode out on my bike for a couple of hours.
Result: crunchy crust, slightly chewy, a little bit sweet with a nutty hit from the pecans.
Heavenly spread with a little butter and served with a cup of tea.
How would you keep your energy up to head up Pen-y-fan?
Last weekend a small group of hill walkers headed off to camp in the Brecon Beacons and walk Wales’ highest peak. They ended up being battered by inclement weather and horizontal hail!
had these goodies with him…buttered Bara Brith and raspberry flapjack. The intrepid group covered 18km and climbed over 1,000m of vertical ascent to achieve their goal.
Keeping walkers fuelled this time! A group of and enthusiasts needed some energy bars to keep them going as they walk many military sites and graveyards in Northern France. Their plans include learning more about the famous
Their bespoke order includes lots of seasonal flavour bars and individual parcels of buttered Bara Brith and Cranberry loaf slices.
One of the walkers hasn’t come across SportyBakes before; his response after eating his first bar: “Best flapjack I’ve ever eaten bar none”.
What lovely feedback 😍
A bunch of lucky riders are out in Mallorca enjoying some rays of sun, late season rides and, knowing them, a beer or three!
Their will be powering them up colls and back to the bar. Enjoy yourselves
Making the most of the spare tomatoes after this weekend’s grilled sandwich stand.
Roasted with garlic, thyme, olive oil, Noirmoutier salt and cracked black pepper and ready to make a tasty soup to go with sourdough bread 😋
Something different this weekend - first foray into festival food.
Joined by my brilliant sisters in law, we served grilled sandwiches to the revellers at Blackwell Music Festival.
Our toppings were Mediterranean-inspired, SportyBakes made all the focaccia and sourdough loaves as well as the relishes:
- plum tomato and thyme
- paprika and red pepper
Lots of lovely feedback from customers 🤩
En France enjoying some R&R after the magical madness of the .games
Seeking new flavour combos for our next new bars, but rest assured isn’t making it into a flapjack energy bar 😂
