Final Race Day Yesterday

Super Stock Race Cancelled due to lack of time.

Super Sport Race 2 - I came 46th out of 53 another solid ride on the 600 improving on the weeks times. Very happy with the results.

Supertwins Race 2 - unfortunately after a really good start the race was red flagged. On the first lap by the time I reached the mountain section I had made up 20 seconds catching the two riders in front of me having pasted them before the start finish line I had a clear run and was making excellent time with every sector being a PB but, unfortunately the race result was declared on lap one but still a great result for our new twin. I came 34th out of 47.

Race Report

Attended Round 1 with No Limits at Snetterton on the Superstock Bike.
It was our intention of testing and learning the bike. Unfortunately it didn’t go as simple as planned.

Friday Testing was filled with fuel problems which left us with one good session, this also left us with no time for suspension set up.

Saturday Morning Qualifying - Clutch issues left us with two laps completed which placed me right at the back of the grid.

Race 1 Saturday - having thought we cured the fuel problems in qualifying they returned in Race 1.

Warm up Sunday - the bike ran beautifully…..

Race 2 Sunday - again having thought we cured the problems after a successful warm up the clutch issues returned significantly worse.

Race 3 Sunday - after further investigation and had some help we finally solved the issue with the clutch, which actually let me start a race with making positive progress on the bike. Lap 6 into the race we had further fuelling issues.

We mark this weekends racing down as a learning weekend, myself and the team have discussed a plan going forward. We now know what we need to correct these problems. Roll on the next race at Scarborough - Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup.

Big thank you Dan - Manor Flooring for coming and helping and the whole team for keeping going for even when it was s**t.

Well done Oxman Carpentry & Building Contractors on getting this job for the rugby club hard word pays off 🎉

New Changing Rooms Progress Update

At Buckingham Rugby Club, where camaraderie and sportsmanship thrive, we have identified a pressing need to address the gender disparity in our facilities. As the club continues to evolve and embrace inclusivity, the call for the construction of dedicated ladies and girls' changing rooms echoes louder than ever before. Rugby has traditionally been a male-dominated sport, but the landscape is changing rapidly with more girls and women embracing the game. Buckingham Rugby Club has been at the forefront of this surge, where we are home to the most powerful women’s and girls’ sections in the county (if not the wider area). However, the club's facilities have yet to catch up with this progressive trend.

As such, from 2022, we looked into possible funding available and established that the RFU was offering grants linked to the Rugby World Cup in 2025; it being hosted in England. Since early 2023 the club has been working with representatives from the RFU, trying to establish our suitability for this grant funding. This was successful and we managed to secure a grant of £100k. We also established that we have the facility to get an interest free loan from the RFU, over a 15-year term. The rest of the funding is to come from the club itself and this is where the Chairman’s £50K fund-raising initiative comes in – see the notice board in the bar for the latest totals. If you haven’t already made a donation to the “Wall of Thanks” use the following links: Changing Room Wall of Thanks - Buckingham RUFC shop (pitchero.com) or Products | Buckingham Rugby Union Football Club Ltd (sumupstore.com) to pay by card and do it now! There is now a progress banner for the Wall above the bar in the clubhouse.

With the fundraising well underway, we turned to design. Following a club survey targeted at the female section, the new facilities were designed to meet the specific needs of female players with cubicled showers, female sanitary provision and increased safeguarding from design and specific facilities coming out as the primary needs.

At the end of June last year the designs were completed and we put in for planning, which was accepted in August. Tender documents were drawn up and sent out around Xmas and we are happy to say that we have today appointed contractors to undertake the work.

Work is scheduled to begin in April with some preparatory work (moving the shop/ culverting the ditch across the car park) there will be some disruption to the car park to accommodate these works, but it is unlikely to be more than a week. The building works begin in early May with groundworks and super structure works going on until the end of June. Internal work will then last until the end of July, when the facility should be ready to go for the new season!

In conclusion, Buckingham Rugby Club stands at a crucial juncture where it must align its facilities with the evolving landscape of the sport. The construction of dedicated women’s and girls' changing rooms is not merely a logistical necessity but a symbol of the club's commitment to equality, inclusion, and the well-being of all its members. By taking this vital step, the club not only meets the immediate needs of its female players but also paves the way for a more diverse and vibrant rugby community in Buckingham.
