Blaze Arts, Burnley Videos

Videos by Blaze Arts in Burnley. 🔥 Youth-led 🔥 Lancashire-based 🔥 Supporting the Young Creative Citizens of tomorrow

We had such a great time at @encounterfestival today! 🤩 Our Access All Areas group created a beautifully inclusive space, outside Preston Bus Station, where people could dance, chill out and celebrate being the same but different.

@mattyb20952 and Shannon Jackson were awesome DJs providing different vibes for guests to tune into and the young producers did a brilliant job of hosting and facilitating activities.

Congratulations to Sean Ward for exhibiting their artwork for the first time and thank you to all the wonderful people and dogs who hung out with us.

Encounter Festival continues tomorrow with events and performances across Preston City Centre. Check out the programme via the link in our bio.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at The Salon in Burnley last night to celebrate our Round Our Way project and the legacy of filmmaker Sam Hanna. The event started with a screening of the Round Our Way film co-produced by young people from three local secondary schools and Fully Formed Films. 🍿 🎥 Sherif Dhaimish and Heather Norris Nicholson introduced the new book Round Our Way: Sam Hanna’s visual legacy which is now available to buy online via @pendle_press 📕 Writer and poet Ajaz performed some of his poems inspired by Burnley and Pendle, and we were joined by Sam Hanna’s grandchildren and great grandchildren who shared their personal memories of Sam. 📝 Here’s just some of the comments left by the young filmmakers and visitors: ‘This project was valuable, it helped me both mentally and physically. Plus it helped open views beyond my own.’ ‘Great to see students engaging with arts and culture. More projects need a youth focus to build a generation of pioneering creators.’ The exhibition is open at The Salon Gallery in Burnley (160 St James St, Burnley, BB11 1NR) until 23 June. Young people in Burnley told us they wanted more live music events for under 18s so that’s what our Creative Activators delivered! Last night over 50 people attended our Central Sounds event at the library and listened to talented young musicians and singers from the local area perform. 💫 We ordered pizza, played games and found out about other creative and cultural activities happening the area like the @burnley_pride_of_place_project This is the first time that Amber, Beth and Olivia have collaborated to produce an event like this and they smashed it. 👏 Keep following to hear about their plans for more events at the library including film nights and keep telling us what you want to see happening in your local libraries. Thanks to Blaze project assistant and freelance producer Maia for all your work behind the scenes on this event. 💪 Thank you to @librariesconnected for supporting the event and travelling all the way from Bristol to attend! #centralsounds #knowyourneighbourhood #youngproducers #blazearts #burnleylivemusic

They did it! Our Stand Out Young Producers have won the Northern Cultural Education Award for Youth Arts Activism! 🔥 🏳️‍🌈 💫 The award acknowledges the group’s commitment to celebrating diversity in Burnley and supporting their local LGBTQ+ community. Inspired by the rainbow plaque outside Burnley Central Library and their town’s radical history the group have recorded oral histories, published zines, created exhibitions and produced Burnley’s first town centre Pride event and parade. You can currently see some of their work in the @burnley_pride_of_place_project alongside the banner they carried at the front of the Pride parade. We are incredibly proud of this group and all of the young people across the North of England who were nominated for this award. Together we are creating the change we want to see. #blazearts #NCEA2024 #youngproducers #discoverburnley #standout #youthledarts

Nature Calling 🍃 ☀️ 🥾 We’re really proud to be a partner on a new national project that will commission diverse artists to explore and celebrate our National Landscapes (formerly known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty). We’ll be bringing together artists and young people in the Forest of Bowland National Landscape to learn from each other and create new work. We want to provide space for important conversations about young people’s relationships with nature including the mental health benefits of getting outdoors to the barriers that prevent many young people accessing their local National Landscape. Holly and Amber from Blaze are on the advisory group for the project and will be helping select the commissioned artists. On Friday we had the opportunity to take a trip into the heart of the Forest of Bowland and meet some of the professionals who are interested in working on the project. There is a commission fee of £45,000 available and the deadline for applications is 24 May. Follow the link in our bio to read the full brief. Nature Calling is funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs. #naturecalling #forestofbowland #youthled #blazearts

On Friday we took a trip to North West Film Archive in Manchester as part of our Round Our Way project funded by @heritagefunduk . Young people from three different schools met up to learn more about Burnley Film Maker Sam Hanna and find out why film is collected and stored at the library. We explored the archives, learnt about film making and also met Sherif and Heather who are creating a book about Sam Hanna’s work. We also talked about the film we are making together which will explore the past, present and future of Burnley. Thanks to Sam Hanna we know what Burnley was like 60 years ago but we’re wondering what Burnley will be like in 2100. What will school look like? What kind of buildings will we live in? Who will live in Burnley? #youthledheritage #youngproducers #blazearts #youngfilmmakers #northwestfilmarchive #heritagelotteryfund #samhanna #burnleyonfilm #burnleyfilmmakers

Big shout out to all of the amazing artists who performed at our Access All Areas event today in Preston! 🔥 @arisha.jane 🔥 BOYCEE 🔥 @mattyb20952 Huge thanks to the brilliant team at @theferretpreston for hosting and working with us to provide a more inclusive live music experience for artists and audience members. Here’s a few things we did to improve access: - Kept the volume down - Created a wheelchair accessible performance area - Provided ear defenders - Put ‘fidget’ and relaxation toys on tables - Left space at and between tables for wheelchair access - Put drinks menus on tables - Provided a quieter chill out space - Made sure attendees knew in advance that the ground floor of the venue is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible toilet. If you know another accessible music venue give them a shout out in the comments ⬇️ #accessallareas #blazearts #accessiblemusic #inclusivemusic #disabledmusicians #disabledartists #youngmusicians #preston

For those had any questions about accessibility in the Ferret, we wanted to reassure you that the Ferret is wheelchair accessible, and that the whole event will be level access, including performances. Here’s the route to the accessible toilet. If anyone has any access questions, please contact [email protected] Video Description: A person walking the route through the Ferret to the accessible toilet which is located at the back of the room.

For the past three months we’ve been working with a group of young people at the Youth Zone in Rawtenstall as part of the Stand Out project. They’ve been researching LGBT+ history and working with a theatre practitioner to devise their own performance that explores key moments and experiences within the LGBT+ community from past to present. Last night they performed their show to an audience of family, friends and invited members from the local community. They took us on a journey through time and emotions - making us laugh, cry, dance and leave feeling proud and inspired! 🏳️‍🌈 🕺 Congratulations to everyone involved! #standout #blazearts #rossendale
