One of my favourite artists of all time is Solly Smook. Today's challenge was portraiture and skin tone so I used one of Solly's paintings as a basis for this one.

I only had two and half hours to create this painting but was so pleased how she turned out.

This is a lovely Baptist Chapel, not as big as my normal size so it was very tiny lines and brush strokes.

it's important to me to keep on painting and not have a break for a few weeks (I'll try not to let that happen again) as it's like a muscle that has to keep working, so I am doing little paintings to keep working that muscle.

Did I mention I love my village 😉❤ When I was going through not so good times the people of this church invited me in, I'm not religious but it brought me peace and the people were so kind, that's what really matters. So I have done this little painting as a gift, I did a lot of that when I was younger instead of buying gifts.

This has been bliss to paint. I had no reference just seeing where it took me, sitting out in the garden helped (it also was safer with the splatting of paint at the beginning).

As a teenager (boy that was a long time ago!) I used to sit on the pavements in Cambridge drawing the amazing buildings, quite unaware of the people walking past, just in a world of my own.

If you haven't been to Cambridge it is well worth a visit the quaint cobbled streets, amazing colleges, universities, churches and museums, the market square and more bicycles than you could shake a stick at. We also do this thing called punting which is very Cambridge, quite blissful as you pass the backs of the colleges and under the famous bridges.

This is a little cobbled street called Rose Crescent leading to the Market Square, I'm reminiscing of times gone by yet time stands still in these paintings and I feel 18 again 😊

I may stick gold leaf on this one too.. 😉 Happy Sunday ❤️

Here we have Marathon Man number two. This one is a commission, a little larger than my normal size at 77cms tall and was a total challenge as unbelievably I don't normally paint men, need to change that.

This is a commission, there are many challenges in this painting, many elements that I find difficult to do but I am always up for a challenge! I hope I have captured the joy in this painting.

David ran the London Marathon before but collapsed before he could finish it and thankfully was saved by the St. John's ambulance crew, so this year he challenged himself and tried again.. success! That exhilarating feeling of crossing the finish line is what I wanted to capture.

I am going to do another marathon painting in a few days with a different approach, which I am looking forward to.

I am open to commissions, just not very good at sales so I never tell anyone, they have to ask me instead.. must work on that one 😂 However if you have a certain something you would like painting please do ask me ❤
