I am so excited to announce that I will be training with Maria Score from The Western Saddler to fit treeless and treed western saddles (as well as Ghost saddles) to customers in the South East of England. This is an intensive 8 month course which builds on all my knowledge of human and equine physiology, biomechanics and behaviour so I can help more horses and riders move comfortably and in harmony with each other. I can't wait! 🤠

Sunny but cold morning yesterday at Wayne Bushnell Horsemanship Coffee Morning in Kent. Wayne teaches natural horsemanship and uses a Ghost saddle for his training. He has monthly coffee mornings, travels to yards for 1:1 sessions, takes horses on training livery and offers fab summer camps. I'm there at most coffee mornings so you can also meet me and some of these amazing, versatile saddles. This is Mollie on her gorgeous mare. ❤

This gorgeous Ghost Buttera in purple and black lorica arrived with my lovely customer earlier this month. This is what she said... 'Bui seemed really comfortable in it and strode out the whole ride. She diligently tested it out for slipping with some acrobatics on the lunge before we set off too! We had a steady hack for around an hour, with no moving or slipping. When we trotted she surprised me with a HUGE trot, really reaching out and stretching through her back! It was like she was 5 years younger again.' 💜

Fantastic morning at Wayne Bushnell Horsemanship's coffee morning yesterday. Wayne is using a Ghost saddle for all his natural horsemanship training so I'm going to his coffee mornings to tell people about them. **THURSDAY RESEARCH MEME**

Todays meme relates to the saddle twist/waist for the rider AND horse.

Some riders prefer a narrow twist/waist of the saddle to optimise hip function, comfort and to be closer to the horse. Whilst this maybe useful, it is important that the twist/waist of the saddle is suitable and can accommodate the horse’s conformation and back shape

Previously in trot, jump and gallop we have shown that areas of high pressure in the region of T10-T13 (region of the twist/waist) can have a significant affect on equine locomotion. Reinforcing the importance and complexities of correct saddle fit for both horse and rider

So the new prices are on the website (not everything has seen an increase) and I have also added details of the brand new Flexx base that has been fully tested by Ghost dealers around the world and is now available to buy. **THURSDAY RESEARCH MEME**

Todays research meme features our training roller research. In that study, we found areas of high pressure directly on the midline of the back when using a training roller. When using a training roller, ensure that the roller is well padded, creating a gullet and providing clearance of the midline.

We see this often with both treed and treeless saddles. We need to look for the causes rather than just shimming the saddle or pad to 'fix' the problem - although that can be part of the solution.

**THURSDAY RESEARCH MEME**

Todays MEME is relating to saddle slip and the importance of working as a team to ask the “why”, and then make a plan on how best to support the horse and rider. Often it is thought that the “rider” is the cause of saddle slip, whilst we must consider the rider, we need to establish the “primary” cause, and based on multiple studies, saddle slip is initiated by the horse and not the rider. Pursing a rider alone approach to resolving saddle slip is not advantageous, and can often allow subtle asymmetries to develop.

Most of us riders who are over a certain age find it hard to mount from the ground anyway (and mine is only 13.3hh!), but here's the science behind why we use a mounting block. Having said that, being flexible and strong enough to mount from the ground is important in case you have no choice........

Todays MEME is relating to the importance of using a mounting block when mounting. Whilst appreciating that we should have the “skill” of mounting, using a high mounting block (relative to horse) is useful.
