The key to a great, healthy lawn is regular maintenance.
Part of the important yearly regime is scarification,
Scarification is the process of removing moss and thatch embedded below the grass level.
The benefits to your grass also include a more drought tolerant lawn as any rainfall can permeate the soil more efficiently and the grass isn't battling with the thatch and moss.
We will be carrying out scarification for the next 6 weeks depending on weather conditions.
If you would like a free lawn consultation or quotation please get in touch at Heritage Horticulture Ltd.

In the colder months we like to protect the non native ornamental shrubs and trees in exposed conditions, we find the moisture and frost causes damage to the bark on the trunks of Olive and Bay trees. Simply wrapping the stems of these with a hessian wrap helps ensure they stay protected through the winter months.

Today in one of our regular clients garden we have started the yearly job of mulching the herbaceous borders with our own homemade compost. Each year we collect deciduous leaf fall and grass cuttings to compost and generate on average 10 tonnes per year to go back onto the garden.

Benefits of mulching borders are,

Adding micronutrients into the soil to promote plant health and growth .

Raises the soil temperature through the winter months protecting plants root systems.

Also helps the lower soil level and roots retain moisture in the drier summer months.
