1 year of The Sultan.
We opened our doors for a soft launch last July, somewhat nervously offering elevated Turkish & Mediterranean cuisine.
We had confidence in the food and new directions we could take it but opening a restaurant at a time of decline in hospitality was understandable nerve-racking. With a lot of guests turning to discount dining rather than a treat or cocasional dining.
We had to consider a change in the venue/plan to accommodate the current climate, but thankfully we stuck with our initial vision of offering the best the Mediterranean had to offer with a strong mix of ancient recipes, quality sourced meats and local produce. Always keeping an eye on the value for our potential guests.
The vision remained, dining fit for a Sultan.
We've been proudly recognised as one of the better venues in Cardiff by the Welsh Food Awards and await results this September.
We will maintain our vision of quality dining, and will endevour to always insure there is true value to our cuisine and ever-evolving menus.
We will soon be announcing plans for our birthday celebrations for later this month, and plans for the final third of the year shortly.
Thank you so much to everyone who has joined us so far.
Thank you for the wonderful reviews.
Your feedback means the world to us, and has been invaluable as we've grown this past year.
'Saturday night = girls night! We headed down the bay on what was a LOVELY sunny day and managed to bag a table at Cosy Club in the sun for a few drinks, before heading to The Sultan.
I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this place! The menu was incredible - so much choice, especially if you’re a meat lover!
We had a few starters between us; baba ganoush, stuffed chicken balls and roasted goats cheese. All of these were absolutely divine and would 100% have these again. Double bonus that you get free Turkish bread and hummus too; double win!
As for mains, I had the lamb shish kebab and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The portions aren’t small either - look at those FAT lamb chunks, I did finish it but I left like a pot bellied piglet. It comes with salad and bulgar wheat too. The only thing I’d recommend is ordering a sauce on the side as it was a bit dry - I went for mushroom and it was a great addition to my meal.
I also tried the cashew chicken as my mum had it, and this was also top tier - another generous portion and the flavours worked super well.
It’s nice to finally see independents popping up down the bay as for years I’ve said how chainy it is. There’s a few down there now, but hopefully a few new small businesses start appearing!'
The smell of coffee beans, the squeak of the hellim.

If there’s one Turkish cake that stands out from all the rest, it just has to be this iconic Islak kek, translated to the wet cake. It may not sound as good as it looks and tastes but you must try this rich and sticky dessert. We top ours with pistachio and coconut ice cream. Turkish tea optional, but highly recommended.
