Tonight on our alternative music show, Transmission, from 8pm, we’re featuring upcoming events happening in Chelmsford.

This Saturday we’re putting on another of our showcase nights at Hot Box, with an electro-rock lineup that played for us so successfully last year…Tin Gun, Agency-V and Psykelektric….we’ll be playing music from all three…but in the middle hour between 9 and 10, Paul Dupree’s live guests this evening will be David Hughes from the Hot Box venue, talking about the Sounds Good festival, which is happening on the 13th and 14th at various venues across Chelmsford, with close to 40 acts taking part, and one of them, George Bone, will also be on the show, and playing some of his songs live too.

In the last hour, Liam Gloster of Impious Spirit will be here for his monthly roundup of events that he’s running locally…and of course a fair amount of new local music including releases from Payola and And I Meet You In Churches, as well as some global goodies…

This week's Record Of The Week on City Sound .

Cutaways are a 4 piece indie rock band based in London & Essex. Drawing on a large array of influences, both modern and old, they’ve already had their music played on the BBC Introducing show.

Their new single is called Sunglasses….and you can hear it every day this week on our breakfast, lunchtime and drivetime shows.

Hannah and Jamie are live now with their show ‘The Vinyl Revival’ tune in for their Manchester and Oasis special! 📻🎵✌🏻

On tonight’s edition of our alternative music show, Transmission, from 8pm on City Sound , Paul Dupree’s guests are acoustic duo Songs of the Folk from Maldon but hail from North Carolina. They’ll be playing a full 30 minute set in our Live Lounge studio from just after 9.

Then at 10, we look behind the scenes of the new album by Myopia, also from Maldon. Mind Party, which has been four years in the making but is finally out this Friday, with Ollie and Elliot from the band talking us through the process and stories behind each of the songs in an exclusive Transmission special.

New local music includes Cardinals, Rob Prince, Combat Sports, and a pre-release preview of a track from the new EP by Three Birds Blind.

Your Award Winning theatre radio show is live as per usual this Sunday afternoon 1-4 pm only on City Sound! This week, we will be chatting to Harlow Amateur Theatre Society (HATS) about their upcoming production of Rock of Ages, coming to The Harlow Playhouse from the 2nd October.

Set in the late 1980’s, California;”. Sherrie, a small town girl, heads to the bright lights of LA to pursue her dreams of acting stardom. She meets Drew, a bartender at the legendary Bourbon Room, who has dreams to be a rock star.

Developers have come to LA, with the idea of bulldozing the Strip, much to the disgust of Dennis (the Bourbon’s owner) and Lonny (the resident sound engineer and narrator of the show). They meet resistance from Regina (the Mayor’s former planning officer) who wants the strip to remain.

City Sound 's record of the week is from Vix and the Bleeding Hearts, a Colchester indie-psychedelic-rock band, which includes members from other great bands, such as Gasoline Green and Hobo Chang.

Vix , herself, is a songwriter, performer and promoter of long standing and is a huge factor in the current dominance of Colchester as a music hub in East Anglia.

Plans are in place for us to host the band for a live session in our studios later this year, but in the meantime, hear the band’s new single, Teenage Love Affair, every day this week on our breakfast, lunchtime and drivetime shows.

City Sound on the road. The next of many upcoming events in the city that we are proud to be associated with.

Ellen, Jon, Tony and Paul will be playing a whole host of 80s and 90s dance music, backed up by some classic soul and R&B, in the garden at The UB Chelmsford on August 17th, from 6pm.
