Charlton Kings in Bloom
Charlton Kings In Bloom (CKiB) is a group of unpaid volunteers bringing floral colour to the village.
We are so glad that everyone who went on our trip this year enjoyed the day out. When people take the time and trouble to write thank you notes like the one below it was clearly a delightful day and the hard work in organising it worthwhile and appreciated.
This is an interesting and important subject. You can see a trailer for the film at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaJl0yQ7ufQ
Our coach trip to Yeo Valley Organic Gardens was a great day out for everyone who went. It is quite a large garden with a huge amount of variety. As you can see from the photos, after a dampish start the day brighten up to be very pleasant. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all including the well earned cups of tea at the Garden's own café

We recently planted the summer bedding at the War Memorial and in the many planters around the village. You may notice that some of the planters are a bit different to our usual planting. There will be more on this shortly.
We have a few tomato and courgette plants which were not big enough for our sale but have now grown on and are now available.

A big thank you to everyone who came and bought plants at our Plant Sale on Saturday morning. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came to buy our plants and their generosity. We hope that the vegetables give you a good crop and the perennial plants give you years of pleasure. Thanks also to Charlton Kings Futures who supported us with displays and advice on all things environmental. It was a very enjoyable morning for everyone.
Why not come along to our Charlton Kings in Bloom Plant Sale tomorrow, Saturday11th May from 9.00am until 12 noon. outside the Kings Hall.
We will have lots of vegetables and perennial plants for sale and also bags of compost all at reasonable prices. All moneis raised go towards plants and bulbs our volunteers plant around the village.
In addition to our Plant Sale Charlton Kings Futures will have a number of stalls and demonstrations going on to showcase what they do.
Don't miss out and support both Charlton Kings in Bloom and Charlton Kings Futures
Everyone likes to be appreciated. Thank you to the person who took the trouble to colour and write this note showing their appreciation of what we do.
A big Thank You to everyone who kindly responded to our email request for seed trays. The seed trays we now have should be enough to ensure we have lots of plants at our sale at the King's Hall on 11th May
The War Memorial is looking particularly beautiful now our spring bulb planting is flowering.
Don't forget to come along to our talk with slide show tonight at the Stanton Suite by the Library. Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Ticket cost £6 on the door and include hot drinks and home made cake.
This annual fundraiser helps us to buy the plants for our projects - and there are delicious homemade cakes and tea afterwards.
On 9th December we planted a huge number of spring bulbs along the walkway between Buckles Close and Beeches Field. It was a piece of land which looked rather forlorn and needed brightening up. We hope the many people who use the path will enjoy the flowers come the spring.
We recently planted 300 plug plants in the developing Wild Flower Meadow within the Beeches Playing Fields. Plug plants are young plants – either seedlings or cuttings grown in single units in modular trays. This allows for minimum root disturbance when planting. In the photo you can just make out where four of the plants were planted by the dark compost of the plugs. Hopefully we will all enjoy a wonderful display next year.
Following the heavy rain and after a couple of attempts, we have replanted the War Memorial with winter planting in readiness for Remembrance Sunday.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to rake off the cut grass from the wild flower meadow within the Beeches Playing Fields. The volunteers also scattered a wheelbarrow full of wild flower seeds.
Removing the cut grass makes the ground less fertile giving the wild flowers the ideal growing conditions. Lets hope all their hard work results in a beautiful display for all to enjoy.
